Before sharing an AI-generated game, verify its core mechanics with repeatable tests, investigate failures in the engine, measure performance on the build and device that matter, ask another person to play, and review generated code and assets. A short, deliberate workflow can catch obvious problems without pretending to prove the whole game is correct.
Define what “working” means for your game
Write down a few behaviors the game must get right. Keep them observable: what input starts play, how movement should work, what counts as success or failure, whether restart returns the player to the right state, and what should happen when a level or screen changes.
Turn those expectations into checks. For example, use the same input sequence twice and confirm that the expected state change occurs both times. This is a repeatable smoke test, not proof that every mechanic or edge case is correct.
A 2026 preliminary preprint, SWE-Game: Can Coding Agents Build the Games We Want?, evaluates generated games using a combination of engine-state checks, replay of reference inputs, and demonstrations of features. Its results are specific to its benchmark: the authors report that the best overall scores across three construction tasks remained below 60 out of 100, with Brief-to-Game reaching 50.38. That is evidence about those benchmark tasks, not a quality score for your project or a prediction that any particular AI-generated game will fail.

Run the game and reproduce failures
First try the normal path through the game. Then exercise likely trouble spots for its mechanics: boundaries, repeated inputs, transitions, failure and restart, and any action that changes state. When something goes wrong, change the goal from “fix the game” to “reproduce this one failure.”
- Record the steps: note the exact inputs and sequence that led to the problem.
- State the expected and actual results: for example, “pressing restart should return to the first level; the player remains at the goal.”
- Capture the relevant evidence: save any error message and note when the problem occurs, such as on a level transition or after repeated input.
Godot 3.6’s debugging tools documentation describes the debugger and profilers, breakpoints, remote debugging, runtime collision and navigation visualization, and options for syncing changed scripts or scenes during a run. These can help distinguish a logic problem from a collision, navigation, runtime, or performance issue. The page is for Godot 3.6; use documentation matching your installed version because feature names and workflows may differ.

Fix one cause at a time and check for regressions
Where practical, make one small change, then rerun the scenario that exposed the defect. Once it passes, revisit the other core checks: a fix to movement or state handling can break restart, progression, or another mechanic. For fragile or randomized gameplay, record inputs or arrange a repeatable setup so the before-and-after comparison is meaningful.
Repeated manual testing can be tedious and prone to error. The 2023 workshop paper PlayTest: A Gamified Test Generator for Games discusses deriving test cases from player actions as a proposed approach. Treat it as research motivation, not as a validated consumer tool or a guarantee that automated test generation will cover your game.

Profile performance before changing code
If the game stutters, loads slowly, or struggles on a target device, measure before rewriting code. Godot’s contributor optimization guidelines recommend recording a baseline profile, comparing results after changes with the same build settings, testing real games, and repeating measurements because results fluctuate. They also note that debug and optimized builds can behave differently and recommend testing multiple platforms where appropriate.
- Use the same build settings for the before-and-after comparison.
- Repeat measurements; a single small timing change may be noise.
- Test the exported game and target hardware when those are the conditions that matter. Editor performance alone does not establish how the shared build will behave.
Ask someone else to play without coaching
Give another person a build and a simple goal, but do not explain every interaction. Watch where they hesitate, ask what they expected to happen, and find out whether they could finish or restart. This can reveal confusing controls, unclear feedback, or a progression problem that your own familiarity hides.

- Compatible with Android devices and fits mobile devices ranging from 100mm to 170mm in length.
- Hall Effect Joysticks and Triggers
- Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light and tactile.
- 2 Pro back paddle buttons
- Profile button. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings. Turbo function.
Use what you observe to form a specific check or change, then repeat the relevant scenario. Human playtesting complements repeatable checks: a script can verify a particular state change, while a person can tell you that the game’s intent or feedback was unclear.

Godot’s editor-code documentation warns that modifications made by editor-running scripts may be permanent and may not support undo/redo. Use version control and take care before running generated editor code.

Quick Recap
Before you share: a practical checklist
- The game’s key actions, success and failure states, restart, and transitions have observable checks.
- You can reproduce and describe any known failure, and you have rerun affected checks after fixes.
- Performance has been measured under comparable build settings if it is a concern, including on relevant target hardware or platforms.
- At least one other person has tried the game without step-by-step coaching.
- Generated code and content have been reviewed, and you have a record of what was generated or changed.
- The build you intend to share—not just the editor session—has been opened and tried.
