Sony groups the Slim under CFI-2000; longer codes such as CFI-2016 identify a more specific documented model. The full code—not the word “Slim” or the detachable disc drive’s serial number—is the useful identifier for support and setup.
Find the PS5 Slim’s complete CFI model code
-
Locate the console’s own model label and copy the complete CFI code exactly, including all digits and any suffix.
-
Use Sony’s PS5 model-number lookup to confirm where the label is on your console. Label placement can vary, so check Sony’s locator rather than relying on an assumed position.
-
Look up the complete code in Sony’s manuals and support index. It groups documentation by model code; for example, the index lists CFI-2016 Slim materials separately from CFI-1216, CFI-1116, and CFI-1016 documentation.

PlayStation®5 Digital Edition (slim)- Model Number CFI-2000
- Includes DualSense Wireless Controller, 1TB SSD, 2 Horizontal Stand Feet, HDMI Cable, AC power cord, USB cable, printed materials, ASTRO’s PLAYROOM (Pre-installed game)
- Vertical Stand sold seperately
Sony identifies CFI-2000 as the PS5 Slim model group. A longer code such as CFI-2016 is a regional model designation within the more specific support documentation. Use the exact code shown on your own console when choosing instructions.
Keep the console model separate from the disc-drive serial
Some applicable CFI-2000 consoles are supplied without a disc drive and can use a separately sold detachable drive. That drive has its own serial number, which is not the console’s CFI model code. Sony says the drive’s serial is 17 alphanumeric characters and is printed on the back beside its connector. See Sony’s instructions for finding the disc-drive serial number.

If your goal is to identify the console, read the label on the console—not the detachable drive. If you are registering or troubleshooting the drive itself, use the drive serial.
Why the exact model code matters
Model-specific instructions can differ even when two consoles are both PlayStation 5 systems. Sony’s vertical-stand instructions separate CFI-2000/7000 from CFI-1000 models, and state that stand attachment depends on which console you have. Follow the instructions for your model group rather than assuming older PS5 directions apply to the Slim. See Sony’s vertical-stand instructions.

The same principle applies before buying a model-sensitive accessory: search the full CFI code in Sony’s support materials and confirm compatibility for that specific model. Sony’s CFI-20XX safety guide says a compatible separately sold disc drive can be used with a console supplied without one; check the applicable guide and current local support information before purchasing.
What the code does—and does not—tell you
The code lets you identify the documented console model and select relevant Sony setup or support instructions. The available official materials establish CFI-2000 as the Slim family and provide more specific regional documentation, including CFI-2016. They do not provide a complete mapping of every regional suffix or manufacturing subrevision to internal component changes. Do not infer fan, motherboard, processor die, power draw, or heatsink differences from the CFI code without documentation that specifically identifies those revisions.

Check storage requirements only after identifying the model
Sony’s CFI-20XX guide lists M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen4x4 storage from 250 GB to 4 TB, in sizes 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110. It excludes M.2 SATA drives and discusses heat dissipation. These are guide specifications, not a guarantee that every drive meeting them will work. Verify the current guide for your exact console code before buying or installing an SSD. The guide is available through Sony’s manuals index.
