One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchStart with the mod’s page and look for an AI-use disclosure. Then check what it covers and compare it with the project’s credits, release history, source repository, and any available file-provenance information. These sources can support a conclusion, but none is a universal detector: an explicit disclosure documents a claim, while missing disclosure or metadata does not prove that AI was not used.
What counts as evidence of AI use?
A mod can involve AI in different ways: code, textures or other assets, dialogue and descriptions, translations, functionality that calls a generative model, or promotional material on its project page. A label that says only “AI-generated” may not explain which of these is involved or how much of the project it covers.
- Documented: the creator or host explicitly identifies AI use and names the component.
- Corroborated: project history or a supported provenance signal independently aligns with that disclosure.
- Unverified: a visual, writing-style, or code-style impression raises a question but does not establish how the work was made.
There is no validated general-purpose test that can determine whether arbitrary mod code, art, text, or audio was generated by AI. Treat conclusions as assessments of the evidence you can see, not as forensic certainty.
Check the mod page and the host’s rules
Look for an AI-generated-content label, disclosure field, or explanation on the mod’s hosting page. Read the linked policy, if there is one, and check that it applies to the current project version. Pay attention to the disclosed component and extent: one translated description is different from AI-produced core code, a pack of textures, or functionality that relies on a generative model.

Modrinth
Modrinth’s Content Rules require a “Contains AI-generated content” disclosure for significant cases, including substantial AI-produced project code, assets that are primarily or entirely AI-produced, project design or functionality that relies on generative AI, and AI-generated project-page elements. Its AI disclosure guidance says minor assistance such as simple questions, grammar checking, or refactoring a few functions is generally not the significant use the rule is intended to capture. The guidance also says projects made entirely or almost entirely through generative AI with little human input beyond prompting or testing cannot be published publicly on Modrinth.
Modrinth’s Content Disclosures describe categories including significant AI-generated code; AI-generated or AI-assisted distributed assets such as textures, models, or logos; generated text such as dialogue, names, descriptions, or translations; and functionality dependent on generative AI. They also cover AI-generated content on the project page. Read the category details rather than treating a tag as a complete account of a mod’s production.

CurseForge and other hosts
Do not assume one platform’s rules apply everywhere. CurseForge’s moderation policies describe review and reporting channels and require a visible disclaimer for AI-modified showcase images when those images could misrepresent the actual mod. That is a platform-specific rule, not a universal standard for every mod host.
Compare the disclosure with project history
If the project has a public source repository, compare the relevant files, release notes, credits, and author explanations with the page’s disclosure. A dated history may clarify when an asset or feature appeared and whether the author identified AI assistance. It can corroborate a specific claim, but commit patterns, sudden releases, unusual code, or generic prose do not prove AI generation.

You can still review the mod page, credits, releases, and metadata in distributed files, but those sources may not reveal as much about how the project was made.
Inspect provenance data only when it is available
Some supported media files may retain Content Credentials or other provenance signals. OpenAI’s provenance guidance explains that Content Credentials can record information about a file’s origin and history. Coverage depends on the product, model, file type, and export path. Metadata can be removed by editing, conversion, or a hosting platform; credentials may also be lost through ordinary actions such as taking a screenshot. Watermarks can become undetectable after extensive changes.
A positive signal is evidence about the supported tool or file it identifies; it does not establish that every part of a mod was AI-made. A missing signal is inconclusive: it may not have been embedded, may not be supported for that output, or may have been stripped. These signals are not universal mod detectors.

- Record the exact claim. Note the disclosure wording, the named component, the project version, and where you found it.
- Check for corroboration. Compare the claim with relevant release notes, repository history, credits, author explanations, or supported provenance data.
- Describe limits plainly. Separate what is documented from what is corroborated and what remains unverified. For example: “The creator discloses AI use for one texture; I could not establish whether other assets used AI.”
- Use the host’s reporting channel if needed. Include the specific page, file, disclosure, or provenance evidence rather than relying on an impression. CurseForge describes automated checks and manual review and invites reports with supporting information in its moderation policies.
A strange-looking texture, polished or generic description, unusual code, or screenshot alone is not a sound basis for accusing a creator. State what you observed and how strong the evidence is.

How platform policies fit into the picture
Platform rules govern what creators must disclose or what a host permits; they do not independently verify the complete development history of every mod. Steamworks’ AI-content guidance distinguishes pre-generated from live-generated content in the context of Steam game submissions. It should not be treated as a universal mod-host policy or as proof that a mod can be detected automatically.
