Scroll the page or the table’s own container, wait until the rows you need have actually loaded, then capture the right scope. A normal WebDriver screenshot shows only the current browser window; it does not combine earlier and later scroll positions. For a table that loads rows as you scroll, repeat the scroll-and-wait cycle until the intended rows are present before capturing.
Why rows can be missing after the page loads
A completed navigation does not mean JavaScript has finished adding table content. Page readiness concerns the document and its HTML-defined assets; scripts can subsequently change the page. Selenium’s Waiting Strategies documentation recommends waiting for the application state your test actually needs. It also warns: “Do not mix implicit and explicit waits.” Implicit waits affect element-location calls globally, while explicit waits poll for a particular condition; combining them can lead to unpredictable timing.
Scrolling and loading are separate events. A scroll may trigger a request, but the rows may arrive later, the table may redraw, or a loading indicator may need to disappear. Wait for an observable change rather than assuming that one scroll or a fixed delay is enough.
Choose the screenshot scope
| What you need | Capture method | Limit to account for |
|---|---|---|
| The currently visible browser window | Standard WebDriver screenshot | It does not include content outside the current window. Selenium Python WebDriver API documents saving a PNG of the current window. |
| The table element | Element screenshot | Check whether the rendered element includes all intended rows and whether it is clipped or virtualized. Selenium demonstrates element screenshots in its windows and tabs documentation. |
| The whole document, using Python with Firefox | Firefox full-document screenshot method | The documented full-page methods are specific to Selenium’s Firefox Python API; verify support for your browser, binding and version. See the Firefox WebDriver API. |
| A long or virtualized table | Load the required rows through scrolling, then capture deliberately | A full-document capture does not fetch rows that have not been loaded or rendered. |
Ordinary WebDriver screenshots capture the current window. If the table is taller than that window, the image shows only the visible portion—not a stitched record of previous scroll positions. Selenium’s Python Firefox API separately documents save_full_page_screenshot, get_full_page_screenshot_as_png and a base64 full-page form. Do not assume all browsers and bindings provide identical full-document capture.

Scroll, wait for rows, and capture with Python
The example below uses explicit waits and a scrollable page. Replace the URL and table selector with those for your site. It waits for the row count to increase after each scroll; the maximum number of attempts prevents an endless loop if the table stops loading. Set the target count to the number of rows you actually need.
- Install Selenium and use a compatible browser and WebDriver setup for your environment.
- Set the table selector, row selector and target count to match the page. If the table lives in a fixed-height panel, use that panel as the scroll container instead of the window.
- Run the script, then inspect the PNG for missing rows, clipping, overlays and unreadably small text.

This example assumes each new batch increases the number of matching rows. Some interfaces replace existing rows, update a “loaded” marker, or virtualize the table so only visible rows exist in the DOM. For those pages, change the wait condition to an observable site-specific signal, such as a known target row appearing, the last-row text changing, or a loading indicator disappearing. A row count that stays constant is not proof that no more data exists when the application reuses or replaces elements.

Adjust the scroll and wait for your table
If the page scrolls
Bringing the last loaded row into view can trigger infinite scrolling, as in the example. If the page requires incremental movement, scroll by a measured amount instead, then wait for the row count or another meaningful signal to change. Repeat until the target row is present or the application indicates there is no more data. Do not assume a single jump to the bottom will trigger every intermediate load.
If a nested panel scrolls
Identify the element with its own scrollbar and scroll that element, not window. For example, after locating the panel by its CSS selector, scroll it with driver.execute_script("arguments[0].scrollTop = arguments[0].scrollHeight", panel). Then wait for the table’s observable update just as you would for page scrolling. The exact scroll container and end-of-data signal depend on the site.

If the table redraws or virtualizes rows
Re-query rows after every update instead of retaining old row objects: a redraw can replace them, and a virtualized table may keep only a small set in the DOM. To confirm a particular record, wait for its identifying text or selector. To capture a table element, first verify that the element’s rendered contents include the rows you intend to show; an element screenshot cannot include rows that the application has not rendered.
Save the screenshot you actually need
For the current browser window, Selenium’s Python WebDriver API documents save_screenshot and get_screenshot_as_file for saving a PNG; it also documents screenshot bytes and base64 output. An element can be captured with its screenshot method, for example table_element.screenshot("table.png"). Selenium’s interaction documentation covers browsing-context and element screenshots.

For a whole-document image in Python with Firefox, the Firefox API documents driver.save_full_page_screenshot("table-full.png"). Confirm the API in the documentation for the Selenium version and browser you use. Even a full-document method captures what the page has rendered; it does not itself make lazy-loaded or virtualized rows appear.
Before relying on the output, open the saved image and check that the intended records are present, the table is not clipped, sticky headers or overlays do not obscure values, and the text is legible at the image’s displayed size.

- The screenshot has only the first batch: The script captured before the next request completed. Wait for a row, count, marker or loading-state change after each scroll.
- The script hangs or takes far longer than expected: Avoid mixing implicit and explicit waits. Use an explicit timeout for the specific update condition and choose a sensible end condition.
- The row count never increases: The page may use a nested scroll container, replace rows, virtualize the DOM, or have reached the end. Scroll the actual container and wait for a condition that reflects the application’s behavior.
- A stale element error appears: The table may have redrawn. Locate the rows again after the update rather than reusing saved row elements.
- The PNG is missing earlier or later rows: A normal window screenshot is not a stitched scroll capture. Load and capture the desired content with an appropriate method; verify browser support before using Firefox’s full-document API.
- The image contains an overlay or sticky header: Inspect the rendered state before capture and handle the site-specific overlay or positioning issue. Do not treat successful file creation as proof that the image contains the intended content.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a clean page capture rather than Selenium-driven interaction with a specific table, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-request screenshot API. Its capture options include full-page images with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, custom waits and JavaScript. These do not replace a site-specific scroll-and-wait loop when rows are only fetched after interacting with a particular table.
