A screen flash indicates that the screenshot was captured, and Samsung says it is saved automatically in Gallery. For a long webpage, use Scroll capture; for a hands-free option, try Palm swipe or a configured voice assistant if your model supports it.
Take a screenshot with the buttons
- Open the screen you want to capture.
- Press the Power or Side button and Volume Down together, then release them. Pressing and holding for too long may bring up other controls instead.
- Look for the screen flash to confirm the capture.
Button names and placement vary by Galaxy model. On older Galaxy devices with a physical Home button, Samsung tablet guidance describes pressing Power and Home together. For model-specific directions, search Settings or consult the device manual. Samsung notes that menus and screens can also vary with model, software, and carrier in its Canada screenshot guide.
Capture a long page with Scroll capture
Scroll capture can extend a screenshot down a supported webpage or document, rather than capturing only what is currently visible.
- Open the scrollable page and take a normal screenshot using the buttons.
- When the screenshot toolbar appears, tap the Scroll capture icon to extend the image down the page. Tap again as needed to capture more.
The icon is contextual: it appears only when the content and app support scrolling capture. If it is missing, the page may not support the feature. Samsung’s Galaxy screenshot methods guide advises ensuring the screen capture toolbar is enabled; available settings may differ by device.

Take a screenshot without pressing the buttons
Palm swipe
Some Galaxy models offer a palm gesture. Look under Settings → Advanced features → Motions and gestures → Palm swipe to capture, enable it if present, then swipe the edge of your hand across the screen. The feature is not universal; if the setting is absent, your model or software may not support it, or the menu path may differ. Samsung’s Caribbean guidance documents different labels on older Android releases.
Voice assistant
If Bixby or Google Assistant is enabled and configured on your Galaxy, Samsung lists commands such as “Hey Bixby, take a screenshot” or “Hey Google, take a screenshot.” Assistant availability and behavior depend on the device and software, so this is an alternative rather than a guaranteed method.

Capture and annotate with an S Pen
On compatible S Pen devices, open Air Command → Screen Write to capture the screen and annotate it. This option depends on the specific device; an S Pen is not needed for ordinary button screenshots. Samsung lists Screen Write among the methods in its Galaxy screenshot guide.
Find your screenshot
Samsung says captures save automatically in Gallery. On the Gallery app, look in Albums → Screenshots; this location is identified in Samsung’s UK screenshot guide.

If screenshots are blocked or a method is missing
Not every failed capture points to a button problem. Some apps and protected screens block screenshots for security or privacy. Samsung specifically cites banking apps and notes that a security message may appear in its UK guidance. If capture works elsewhere but not in one app, the app or screen may be restricting it.

- If the Palm swipe setting is missing, check the device manual or Settings search rather than assuming all Galaxy models have the gesture.
- If Scroll capture does not appear, try a supported scrollable page and check whether the screen capture toolbar is enabled.
- If a protected screen blocks capture, use the app’s permitted sharing or export options instead of trying to bypass its restriction.
