If the Night Hunter is pursuing you, try moving toward a lit area, then use a hiding spot or a teammate’s help to create an opportunity to escape. Seeking light is an anecdotal player tip, not a confirmed or guaranteed counter: the available official notes do not establish exactly how this enemy detects players or when it stops pursuing them.

What to do when the Night Hunter spots you

  1. Try to reach a lit area. A player discussion recommends seeking light when the Night Hunter pursues. Treat this as an experiment, not a rule: it is not established that light makes the enemy lose sight of you or end a chase. Read the player tip.
  2. Look for a chance to break contact. If you can reach a hiding spot safely, use it to get out of immediate danger. Do not assume hiding will always make the Night Hunter disengage; the official sources reviewed do not confirm that outcome for this enemy.
  3. Communicate if you are playing with others. Tell teammates where the danger is and coordinate your routes so you are not making decisions in isolation. The game supports cooperative PvE for up to four players, but no Night Hunter-specific team maneuver is established in the available sources. PlayStation.Blog’s developer feature describes the cooperative format.

How hiding upgrades can help

Red Barrels’ March 2024 1.0 notes describe two upgrades that may help you manage a dangerous moment, without presenting either as a universal Night Hunter counter:

  • Invisible: the notes say enemies cannot find a player in a hiding spot with this upgrade, even if the player peeks. That is the upgrade description; it does not verify how the Night Hunter behaves in every current trial or circumstance.
  • Hide and Restore: the notes say hiding accelerates Rig cooldown recovery. This can help restore utility while concealed, but does not itself establish that the Night Hunter will stop tracking you.

Check your current build and the in-game upgrade description before relying on either effect. Red Barrels’ 1.0 notes provide the published descriptions.

What is not confirmed about the Night Hunter

The official material cited here does not establish the Night Hunter’s current detection radius, how long it tracks a player, or the precise condition that makes it give up. It also does not confirm that moving into light breaks pursuit. Avoid planning around a precise distance or timer: those values are not supported by these sources.

The game continues to receive updates. Red Barrels’ official update archive lists updates through September 2026 in the retrieved results, and its Season 7 Project Boneyard notes include a control change involving X-Ray and Night Vision. That shows game details can evolve; it does not show that the Night Hunter’s behavior changed in that update.

If the tactic fails

  • Do not keep treating light as a guaranteed escape route if the pursuit continues. Try a different route or a safe hiding opportunity instead.
  • Use upgrades for their stated purposes—concealment or Rig cooldown recovery—rather than assuming they guarantee that this enemy will disengage.
  • In co-op, share the Night Hunter’s location and your intended route, then adapt together to the trial and your build. This is general teamwork advice, not a verified enemy-specific counter.
