To subscribe to another person’s Google Calendar, use Google Calendar in a computer browser: next to Other calendars, select Add other calendars > Subscribe to calendar, enter their email address, and choose the calendar. If it has not been shared with you, the owner must approve your access request. To add a public calendar from a link, use Add other calendars > From URL.

Subscribe to someone’s Google Calendar by email

  1. On a computer, open Google Calendar.
  2. Beside Other calendars, select Add other calendars > Subscribe to calendar.
  3. Enter the person’s email address, then select the calendar you want.
  4. If the calendar has not already been shared with you, Google sends an access request to its owner. The owner must approve it and choose what you can do before the calendar appears under Other calendars.

If the owner has already shared the calendar, their invitation email may include a link you can follow to add it.

Add a public Google Calendar from a URL

A calendar URL works only for a public calendar. In Google Calendar on a computer, select Add other calendars > From URL, paste the calendar’s published URL, and select Add calendar. It will appear under Other calendars. Google’s instructions for adding a calendar by URL cover this route.

Choose the right subscription method

Method What you need Access decision
Subscribe by email The calendar owner’s email address If the calendar has not been shared, the owner must approve the request and set your permission.
Add by URL The published URL of a public calendar The calendar must be public; a private calendar cannot be added this way.

Google’s documented Subscribe to calendar process is for Google calendars; it does not support subscribing to calendars that are not from Google.

View a subscribed calendar on your phone

You cannot start a new subscription in the Google Calendar Android or iOS app. Add the calendar first using a computer browser. After access is granted, open the app’s menu and check or uncheck the calendar to show or hide it. If it does not appear, check the app’s calendar sync settings, as Google recommends in its calendar subscription help.

What the owner controls—and what to consider

The owner decides what a subscriber can see or change. Permission options include seeing only free/busy information, seeing event details, making changes, or managing sharing. For public calendars, owners can choose whether visitors see event details or only free/busy information. Google notes that making a calendar public can make it discoverable on the web, depending on where it is published; review visibility before sharing. Work or school accounts may also have sharing controlled by an administrator. See Google’s guidance on public calendar visibility and sharing calendars.
