Submit the form with its normal button or an equivalent requestSubmit() call, wait until the confirmation or result is visibly rendered, then capture the viewport, the relevant result element, or the full page. Check the saved image before you treat it as evidence.
Use this workflow
- Complete and review the fields. Fill every required control, check formatting, and look for existing error messages.
- Activate the intended submit control. Click the page’s Submit, Send, Save, or equivalent button. This preserves the site’s ordinary validation and submission behavior.
- Wait for a visible result. The result may be a new URL, an inline confirmation, a success banner, a changed status, or a newly rendered panel. For an asynchronous form, wait for the state change rather than relying on a fixed delay.
- Choose the smallest useful capture. Capture the visible viewport when the result is on screen; capture one result element when surrounding content is irrelevant; use a full-page image when confirmation or context continues below the fold.
- Inspect the image. Confirm that the message, relevant values, page identity, and any timestamp or reference number are legible.
Do not submit real personal, financial, medical, or authentication data merely to create an example screenshot. Use a test environment or dummy values approved by the site owner.
Submit a form manually in a browser
Before clicking
- Read labels and required-field indicators, including fields below the current scroll position.
- Check that email, date, number, and consent fields contain the format the page requests.
- Resolve any errors already shown beside a field. A good error message should explain what to change, not merely say that submission failed.
After clicking
Keep the page open while it navigates or updates. A disabled button, spinner, changed button label, confirmation text, or new result panel can indicate that the request is in progress or complete. Do not click repeatedly unless the page explicitly permits retries; duplicate submissions are possible.
Capture the result
Use your browser’s built-in screenshot command. Microsoft Edge documents visible-area, full-page, and selected-area capture with markup tools; availability can vary by device, market, and browser version. Firefox supports visible and full-page captures and can copy or save the image. Open the browser’s command menu or screenshot tool, choose the required scope, then save the PNG (or copy it where supported). If the result is below the fold, scroll to it before a viewport capture or choose full page.

Choose viewport, element, or full-page scope

A full-page image can contain irrelevant navigation and may be harder to read. An element capture can omit context that proves which form produced the result. Choose the narrowest scope that still makes the outcome unambiguous.
Submit from JavaScript without bypassing normal validation
For scripts that should behave like a user activation, click the actual submit button or call requestSubmit(). MDN notes that HTMLFormElement.submit() submits directly without firing the submit event and without triggering constraint validation. requestSubmit() follows the normal pathway, so invalid controls can block submission and raise invalid events.

});Attach the listener before triggering the action if you need to observe it. If validation fails, no submit event is sent; inspect each invalid control and follow the page’s correction instructions.

await browser.close();Use a stable success selector when possible. If the form navigates, wait for the destination URL or a destination-page locator. If it updates asynchronously, wait for the changed status, not simply for network idle: analytics and long-lived connections can keep a page technically busy after the result is already visible.
When a script must submit a specific button
Some forms have multiple submit buttons with different actions. Pass the intended button to requestSubmit(button) so its name/value and action are preserved:

The button does nothing
Look for invalid fields, disabled controls, required consent, or an in-progress spinner. Correct the fields identified by the page and try once. In automation, verify that the locator resolves to the intended visible button and that the page has finished loading.
The script submits but validation is skipped
Replace form.submit() with a real button click or form.requestSubmit(). This restores constraint validation and the submit event.

The screenshot shows the old page
Wait for the destination locator, success message, or changed status. A fixed sleep can be too short on a slow run and wasteful on a fast one. Save the page URL and inspect response or application errors if the expected state never appears.
The confirmation is cut off
Use an element or full-page capture, scroll the result into view, or increase the viewport. For lazy content, wait until the relevant image or panel is visible before capturing.
Overlays obscure the result
Dismiss the site’s consent, newsletter, or chat overlay before a manual capture. In automation, click the close control or hide the selector only when doing so does not alter the evidence.
The image is unreadable
Capture at a larger viewport or retina scale, avoid unnecessary full-page scaling, and inspect the saved file at 100 percent. Keep the result panel and identifying context in the same image when the screenshot will be reviewed by someone else.

- Occasional manual proof: a browser-native screenshot is usually sufficient and requires no automation setup.
- Repeatable tests: Playwright provides selectors, controlled viewports, and deterministic capture points. Store test data safely and avoid real customer submissions.

- The confirmation or result is visibly rendered.
- The capture scope includes every fact a reviewer needs.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should I screenshot before or after the success message appears?
After it appears and remains visible. A screenshot taken during navigation or while a spinner is active does not prove that the form completed.
Can I use a screenshot as proof that a backend record was created?
It proves what the browser displayed, not necessarily the server’s durable state. For audits or payments, retain the site’s reference number, response record, or test log as well.
