Sony’s official PC Remote Play support lists Windows and macOS, not Linux, and chiaki-ng is neither endorsed nor certified by Sony. The setup is: enable Remote Play on the console, install chiaki-ng, register the console in the client, then tune stream quality to suit your network.
Does PS5 Remote Play work on Linux?
Yes, through chiaki-ng, an open-source third-party client for PS4 and PS5 Remote Play that supports Linux. Sony’s official PC guidance documents Windows and macOS rather than Linux, so chiaki-ng is a community alternative—not an official Sony Linux app. Sony also says it has not endorsed or certified chiaki-ng. Sony’s Remote Play overview and the chiaki-ng project describe the respective support paths.
This is Remote Play: you view and control the console on your PC. It is not a guide to broadcasting gameplay to an audience on a streaming platform.
What to prepare
- A PS5 Pro and Linux PC connected to a stable network. For initial troubleshooting, connect the console to the router by Ethernet if practical.
- chiaki-ng installed from one of its current Linux distributions. The release page lists a Flathub Flatpak and AppImage releases for arm64 and x86_64. Consult the current release notes for installation prerequisites and instructions, since project packaging can change.
- Access to the console’s settings to enable Remote Play and, optionally, allow the console to wake from rest mode over the network.
Sony’s PC/Mac controller and system requirements apply to its documented client; they should not be assumed to be chiaki-ng’s Linux requirements.

Enable Remote Play on the PS5 Pro
- On the console, open Settings > System > Remote Play.
- Select Enable Remote Play.
- If you want to connect while the PS5 Pro is in rest mode, open Settings > System > Power Saving > Features Available in Rest Mode, then enable Stay Connected to the Internet and Enable Turning on PS5 from Network.
Sony documents these console settings in its PS5 Remote Play PC and Mac setup guide.
Install chiaki-ng and register the console
- Choose a Linux build from the chiaki-ng releases. Follow the instructions for that distribution and your system architecture.
- Open chiaki-ng and use its current setup flow to discover or register your PS5 Pro. Client labels and screens may change between releases, so follow the project’s setup documentation for the version you install.
- If manual pairing is required, Sony’s documented console path is Settings > System > Remote Play > Pair Device. Follow the client’s prompts to complete registration. Sony describes pairing with the PC and console on the same network; the client-specific registration interface is chiaki-ng’s own.
- Select the registered console in chiaki-ng and start Remote Play.
Improve a choppy or unreliable stream
Network stability matters more than any universal bandwidth number: the available guidance does not establish a guaranteed Linux bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or latency for PS5 Pro Remote Play.

- Try Ethernet for the console. Sony calls a cable “the fastest and most reliable way to connect your PlayStation to your home network.” A particular cable category or brand is not required by that recommendation. Sony’s connection troubleshooting guide also recommends Ethernet.
- Reduce stream quality in chiaki-ng if the picture stutters or degrades, then retry. Client settings and their labels vary by release.
- Reduce competing network traffic and check whether the console and PC have stable connections. A wired console connection is a useful first test where available.
Sony recommends at least 5 Mbps upload and download for standard use and at least 15 Mbps upload and download for best performance in its official PC/Mac Remote Play guidance. These are Sony’s recommendations for that documented client, not tested minimums or performance guarantees for chiaki-ng on Linux. Sony’s separate troubleshooting article describes a 5 Mbps minimum for official PS5/PS4 Remote Play and says resolution can reach up to 1080p, selected automatically according to network quality; those statements likewise do not establish a Linux-client guarantee.

Remote Play does not support every game or console feature. Sony identifies unsupported games, content requiring certain peripherals, and some features that cannot be used at the same time as Remote Play. Sony also notes additional restrictions when a PS5 in the CFI-7000 model group outputs game images to an 8K TV. Check Sony’s Remote Play overview for its current compatibility notes.

Do not assume a specific PS5 Pro resolution, HDR mode, frame rate, or latency on Linux from the console’s capabilities alone. Results depend on the client version, PC, network, game, and configuration, and the available sources do not establish a universal outcome.
