For a remote panel, have each host join a Zoom meeting, build the on-screen composition in OBS, then send OBS’s Virtual Camera output into Zoom. That makes OBS the camera feed seen by meeting participants; it does not automatically turn every Zoom guest into an independent OBS source. If you also want the meeting broadcast to an outside platform, that is a separate Zoom livestream setup with its own account and host requirements.

First choose what you mean by “stream”

There are three different signal paths that are easy to confuse:

  • OBS into Zoom: OBS produces a finished video scene and presents it to Zoom as a webcam. Use this when you want to add graphics or arrange video before it appears in a meeting.
  • Zoom out to a public platform: The Zoom meeting is sent to a supported streaming destination using Zoom’s livestream controls. The meeting host starts it, and account settings determine whether the option is available.
  • OBS production into a Zoom Events webinar: Zoom Events can accept incoming RTMP from third-party streaming software in an eligible, configured webinar workflow. Zoom states that this feature requires Zoom app version 6.2.0 or higher.

The steps below focus first on the common interactive-panel setup: remote hosts in Zoom, with OBS supplying a composed camera feed. Add an external broadcast only after confirming which Zoom path your account supports.

Set up a remote-host panel with OBS Virtual Camera

1. Have the hosts join the Zoom meeting

Invite each remote host to join the meeting from their own device. The meeting host can promote a participant to co-host during the meeting if they need help managing participants or recording. Keep livestream start and stop with the host: Zoom says co-hosts cannot start the livestream. See Zoom’s co-host guidance.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

2. Build the OBS scene you intend to send

In OBS, create a scene and add the video and other sources needed for your composition. OBS Virtual Camera makes OBS output available to an application that accepts a webcam feed, including Zoom; it does not by itself provide a documented method for capturing every remote Zoom participant as a separate, freely selectable OBS source. Choose and test the capture approach for the layout you need rather than assuming the guests will appear as individual OBS inputs. The OBS Virtual Camera Guide explains the output modes and setup.

3. Choose the right Virtual Camera output

OBS offers Program, Preview, Scene, and Source output modes. Program is generally the finished output you want viewers in Zoom to see. If you use Studio Mode, Preview can expose a scene before you intend to take it live. Verify the selected mode and what it displays before starting the call.

4. Start Virtual Camera and select it in Zoom

  1. In OBS, start the Virtual Camera.
  2. In Zoom, open the camera controls or video settings and select OBS Virtual Camera.
  3. Check Zoom’s preview. If possible, ask another participant to confirm the image they receive, including scene changes and framing.

OBS describes the feature as sharing an OBS scene with applications that use a webcam. For more detail, use the official setup guide.

5. Route audio separately and monitor it

Virtual Camera handles video; audio routing is a separate part of the setup. Decide which microphone should go to the Zoom call and whether OBS program audio should also be heard there. OBS’s video-call software tutorial covers routing audio between OBS and call software and explains that audio intended only for a stream or recording can be kept out of the call. The exact virtual audio device and routing steps depend on your operating system and devices, so there is no single universal configuration.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Monitor for echo or doubled audio, especially if the same microphone or program sound reaches Zoom by more than one route.
  • Check that the intended microphone is selected in Zoom and that any audio meant only for an OBS recording or broadcast is not unintentionally sent to meeting participants.
  • Test with a second participant before the event; a local preview alone may not reveal what the call receives.

Send the Zoom meeting to an external livestream

If the goal is to broadcast the meeting to YouTube, Facebook, Twitch, or a custom destination, configure Zoom’s livestream capability separately from OBS Virtual Camera. Availability depends on the account’s enabled settings, allowed destinations, licensing and administrator controls. Check the account before the event; an administrator may control or lock the relevant options.

  1. Ask the account owner or administrator to confirm livestreaming is enabled for the account and that the chosen destination is permitted. See Zoom’s livestreaming enablement instructions.
  2. For a custom streaming service, configure the stream URL and stream key in Zoom as described in Zoom’s custom livestream instructions.
  3. During the meeting, have the host start the livestream from the meeting controls. A co-host cannot start it.
  4. Run a private or otherwise appropriate pre-event check of the complete path, including destination, image, and audio.

Zoom’s custom-site instructions and available destinations can depend on account settings and policy. Do not assume that a streaming control will appear for every user or meeting.

When you already have cameras and a production switcher

If your multiple hosts are in a studio and already use cameras or a video switcher, you may be able to feed the finished production into the streaming computer through capture hardware. Zoom’s broadcasting guide describes an existing production-system workflow and names Magewell USB Capture HDMI Plus for HDMI and Inogeni SDI2USB3 for SDI. These are examples for converting a production output, not required purchases for a basic panel of remote Zoom guests. An Anker USB-C hub is also mentioned for Mac connectivity where the required ports are lacking.

Zoom cautions that the broadcast configuration in that guide does not provide two-way communication. It is for a broadcast/streaming setup; a production that needs interaction must provide separate displays, microphones, speakers, and suitable audio processing. Do not treat that limitation as applying to ordinary interactive Zoom meetings or all Zoom livestream methods.

Use incoming RTMP for an eligible Zoom Events webinar

Zoom Events offers a separate route for integrating scenes from third-party streaming software into a webinar using incoming RTMP. Zoom’s support page says Zoom app version 6.2.0 or higher is required for this feature. Confirm that your Zoom Events configuration and account are eligible, then follow Zoom’s incoming RTMP instructions. This is not a universal replacement for the OBS Virtual Camera workflow in an ordinary meeting.

Preflight checklist

  • Identify the signal path: OBS scene into an interactive Zoom meeting, Zoom meeting out to a public platform, or OBS production into an eligible Zoom Events webinar.
  • Confirm Zoom livestream settings, destination access, and any administrator restrictions in advance.
  • Make the meeting host responsible for starting the livestream; co-hosts can assist with meeting administration but cannot start it.
  • Test the Virtual Camera output mode, framing, scene changes, microphone, program audio, and echo with another participant.
  • Confirm what each remote host’s device contributes to the composition; the cited Virtual Camera guide does not establish that Zoom exposes each guest as an independent OBS source.
  • If Virtual Camera is missing or will not start, use OBS’s operating-system-specific troubleshooting for Windows installation, macOS extension approval, or Linux v4l2loopback considerations: OBS Virtual Camera Troubleshooting.

Troubleshooting common problems

OBS Virtual Camera is not listed in Zoom

Make sure Virtual Camera is running in OBS, then check Zoom’s camera selector again. If it remains unavailable, use the OBS troubleshooting steps for your operating system; Windows installation, macOS extension approval, and Linux v4l2loopback can require different fixes.

Zoom shows the wrong scene or a preview

Check whether OBS Virtual Camera is set to Program, Preview, Scene, or Source. Select the intended output and confirm the view in Zoom before the event. In Studio Mode, Preview may show a scene that has not been taken to Program.

Participants hear echo or duplicate audio

Trace the audio path for the microphone and any OBS program sound. Remove unintended duplicate routes, choose the intended Zoom microphone, and test from another participant’s device. The precise device settings vary by operating system and equipment.

The livestream option is missing or cannot be started

Check that the account has the relevant livestream feature enabled, the destination is allowed, and administrator policy permits it. Have the meeting host start the stream; a co-host does not have that control.

The studio feed works, but the production needs audience interaction

The broadcast setup in Zoom’s hardware guide is one-way and does not itself provide two-way communication. Plan a separate return path with displays, microphones, speakers, and appropriate audio processing if participants need to interact.
