To stream multiple audio sources on YouTube, combine them in a computer-based encoder workflow: connect or route each source, select and balance the inputs in your encoder, then check the mix in YouTube’s Live Control Room preview before you start. YouTube recommends encoder streaming for productions that use external audio hardware or need more advanced control. Exact controls depend on your encoder, operating system, and audio devices.
1. Decide which sources you want in the stream
List everything viewers should hear. Common examples include your speaking microphone, computer or game audio, playback you have permission to use, and a remote participant’s audio returned by conferencing software. These can be separate physical devices or audio feeds from software.
Choose the simplest setup that can capture and control those sources. A single microphone plus computer audio may be manageable through an encoder’s available inputs. Several microphones or a need for hands-on, independent level control may call for an audio mixer or interface between the sources and the computer. YouTube identifies mixers, multiple microphones, and external audio hardware as examples for advanced productions; a mixer is not necessary for every stream. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains the supported workflow.
2. Choose a capture and mixing path
Use the encoder’s available software inputs
For a modest setup, connect or route sources to the computer and select the relevant devices in your encoder. Whether the encoder can capture multiple inputs independently—and the names and locations of its controls—varies by software and operating system. Check the current documentation for your specific encoder rather than assuming every app has a desktop-audio control or the same routing options.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Add an audio mixer or interface when it solves a real problem
Consider hardware if you need to connect several microphones or line-level sources, adjust each source independently during the broadcast, or monitor a combined mix before it reaches the encoder. Confirm that the sources, connections, and mixer or interface output are compatible with your computer and encoder. Start with equipment you already have; YouTube notes that expensive equipment is not required to begin streaming. YouTube’s streaming tips discuss equipment and setup considerations.
Mobile and webcam streaming are options for simpler broadcasts, but the YouTube guidance does not establish that every mobile or webcam setup can independently route several audio inputs. For an advanced production with external audio hardware, YouTube’s encoder-based path is the more directly supported option. YouTube’s live-streaming tips describe the available streaming approaches.

3. Connect, configure, and balance the sources
- Connect each physical source to its intended computer, interface, or mixer input. Route software audio through controls supported by your operating system and encoder.
- Select the intended inputs in the encoder. Confirm that each source you expect is actually reaching the mix.
- Set levels while listening. Make speech clear, keep sources from overpowering one another, and check for muted, missing, or distorted audio. There is no universal gain value for every microphone, room, device, and encoder.
- Listen to a test recording or private/unlisted preview before a public broadcast. Check the combined mix on the same monitoring path you will use during the stream.
YouTube’s documentation supports using encoders and connecting external hardware, but it does not prescribe a universal sequence of software menus, gain settings, or device-specific routing instructions. Follow the current documentation for your selected encoder and operating system for those details.
4. Preview the stream and monitor it live
In YouTube’s Live Control Room, use the preview to confirm the intended audio is present before starting the public stream. Once live, continue monitoring both audio and video quality so you can catch a missing input or a mix that changes. YouTube recommends checking the preview before starting and continuously monitoring the stream. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Plan upload capacity around the total stream bitrate. YouTube Help says: “The total bitrate you’re streaming cannot exceed the amount of upload bandwidth available. Leave a bit of room (20% recommended).” The headroom is a recommendation, not a guarantee of uninterrupted service.
5. Protect the stream key
Your encoder uses the stream key as destination and access information to send the feed to YouTube. Keep it private. If it is compromised, a channel owner or manager can reset it in Live Control Room, then update the encoder with the replacement key. YouTube’s live-stream settings guidance explains stream keys and resetting them.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
6. Apply audio-format settings only when they fit
Do not change audio settings intended for a particular ingestion protocol unless you are using that protocol. For an HLS stream, YouTube recommends 44.1 kHz for stereo audio and 48 kHz for 5.1 surround audio; its HLS guidance lists AAC, AC3, and EAC3 as supported audio codecs and names OBS among encoders that support HLS output. Follow the current HLS preset and encoder instructions for your setup. These values are not universal requirements for every YouTube live stream. Read YouTube’s HLS setup guidance.
Mixing several independent sources into a stereo stream is different from delivering multichannel surround sound. YouTube’s 5.1 guidance identifies mono, stereo, and 5.1 as supported channel layouts; other configurations may convert unreliably to stereo. See YouTube’s 5.1 surround guidance.

7. Troubleshoot common audio problems
| What you notice | What to check |
|---|---|
| A source is missing | Check its physical connection or software routing, confirm the expected device is selected in the encoder, and listen to a test recording or preview before going live. |
| One source overwhelms speech | Adjust the sources’ relative levels in the encoder or mixer while monitoring the combined output. There is no single correct gain value for every setup. |
| Audio is distorted or unexpectedly quiet | Check the source and encoder input selections and levels, then listen to a test recording or preview. Confirm that the signal is not being unintentionally muted or overdriven along its path. |
| The stream sounds different from the local mix | Compare what you hear in the encoder with the Live Control Room preview, verify the inputs reaching the stream, and keep monitoring after the broadcast starts. |
| You cannot connect after a key may have been exposed | Have a channel owner or manager reset the stream key in Live Control Room and replace the old key in the encoder. |
| HLS audio does not use the expected format | Confirm that you are actually using HLS, then follow YouTube’s HLS-specific codec, sample-rate, and encoder guidance rather than applying those settings to every stream. |
