To stream nature sounds on YouTube around the clock, prepare a continuous video-and-audio program, send it to YouTube Live with an encoder or a cloud streaming service, and use only music cleared for this specific use. A music license alone may not prevent a live interruption: the rights owner may also need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist.
What you need for a continuous ambience stream
Your program can be a long video or a loop of nature footage with a nature-sound recording and background music mixed into it. YouTube accepts software encoders as well as dedicated hardware encoders; a special hardware device is not required for a basic looping stream. Its encoder guide also lists Gyre as a cloud option for streaming prerecorded video 24/7. YouTube’s encoder guide describes these routes.
- Video and audio you own or have permission to use.
- A computer running encoder software, or a suitable cloud service.
- A YouTube channel eligible to livestream, a live stream created in YouTube Live Control Room, and its stream URL and key.
- A stable upload connection with enough capacity for the full outgoing bitrate.
Clear the nature audio, footage, and music
Check the rights for every component: footage, field recordings, sound effects, and music. YouTube’s live-stream terms put responsibility on the provider to hold the necessary rights for worldwide use of live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube’s terms state: “You represent and warrant that you have all necessary rights for the exploitation of the Live Content on the Google Services throughout the world, including, without limitation, music licensing rights from artists, record labels, publishers (including public performance licenses) and any other royalty participants.”
Choose music that covers livestreaming
YouTube identifies public-domain material and music used with the copyright owner’s permission as copyright-safe options. It recommends the YouTube Audio Library, original compositions, Creator Music in certain regions, or third-party music with a license that covers the intended use. Check the actual license for platform, territory, duration, monetization, and livestream terms; a track labelled “free,” a credit line, or an off-platform purchase does not by itself establish permission for a 24/7 YouTube stream. Ask about Content ID allowlisting
YouTube scans live streams for third-party content. A match can lead to a placeholder replacing the stream, a temporary interruption, or termination if the matched content remains or a relevant strike occurs. Even if you have a license, the stream may be interrupted when the rights owner has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID. Before going live, ask the licensor whether your channel must be allowlisted and request confirmation once it has been added. If YouTube interrupts a licensed stream, check YouTube Studio and contact the rights owner to resolve the match. YouTube explains live-stream copyright enforcement here.
Build the program and choose how to send it
1. Assemble a seamless audiovisual loop
Arrange the nature footage and sound bed into a coherent program. Listen for abrupt edits, silence, clipping, or music that overwhelms the ambience; watch for black frames, gaps, and visible loop seams. Make sure the finished file’s audio and video are the versions you have rights to use. If the loop is short, vary or transition the material only where your permissions allow; repeated use does not change the rights requirement.

2. Pick an encoder path

- Open YouTube Studio and go to Create > Go live to open Live Control Room. Create or select the live stream and configure its title, visibility, and other stream details.
- In the stream settings, copy the stream URL and stream key. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the broadcast.
- In your encoder, select the YouTube destination and paste the stream URL and key in the matching fields. Load the prepared program or configure the encoder to play it continuously.
- Start the encoder and wait for YouTube’s preview in Live Control Room. Check that video is visible and both nature audio and background music are present at an appropriate level.
- Use YouTube’s go-live control only after previewing the feed and verifying the stream’s accessibility and audiovisual integrity. Prepare and test ahead of the intended start rather than discovering a configuration issue after broadcasting.
Set bitrate and protect continuity
The total outgoing bitrate must fit within your available upload capacity. YouTube recommends upload bandwidth with 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate, checking network reliability, and testing encoder failover if you have configured a backup. The 20% figure is YouTube’s recommended margin, not a guarantee that a connection will remain stable. YouTube’s live encoder settings and bitrate guidance gives the current recommendations.

- Include the complete outgoing stream in your capacity check; do not judge the connection by download speed alone.
- Keep the encoder settings, resolution, and bitrate within both your connection’s capacity and YouTube’s current guidance for the selected format.
- Test the stream before relying on it unattended. If using a backup encoder or failover setup, test that path too.
- Monitor audio and video after going live. A stream can remain connected while the program itself has stalled, gone silent, or developed a playback problem.
When HLS is relevant
RTMP is a common default for live ingestion. YouTube documents HLS as an option for HDR or codecs unsupported by RTMP. HLS sends video in segments and has higher latency than RTMP; use it when your encoder or video requirements call for it rather than assuming it is the best choice for every ambience stream. If using HLS, follow YouTube’s specified segment formats and duration and confirm that your encoder supports them. YouTube’s HLS ingestion guidance covers those requirements.
Keep the stream running and handle interruptions
For a computer-based setup, the computer, encoder application, media playback, and internet connection all need to remain available. Disable sleep or automatic shutdown for the duration, prevent system updates or notifications from disrupting playback where practical, and keep an eye on encoder and YouTube status. A cloud service shifts the playback and encoding away from your home machine, but you should still monitor the YouTube stream and respond to rights or platform issues.

Not on the label alone. Check that the rights and license cover your intended YouTube livestream use, then confirm whether the rights owner must allowlist your channel through Content ID.
