Keep a large LEGO set dry and away from heat and direct sunlight, then use a covered display case sized to the assembled model if you want to limit dust. Measure the model—including wings, antennae, sails, and other projections—against the case’s usable interior dimensions before buying. No single case fits every large set.
Choose a safe place for the set
LEGO recommends storing bricks somewhere dry and away from heat. It warns that direct sunlight or temperatures above 104°F (40°C) may make bricks brittle or discolored over time. Keep the display out of direct sun and away from heat sources, and use a level, stable surface with enough depth to support the model without leaving it close to an edge. The placement advice is practical handling guidance, not a LEGO-tested rule. LEGO’s storage guidance explains the heat and dryness precautions.
Pick a display that fits the finished build
Measure the model and the case
Measure the assembled set’s length, width, and height, including parts that extend beyond the main body. Compare those measurements with the case’s usable interior dimensions—not its outside measurements—and leave clearance for projections and any sections you may need to remove. Case sizes vary, and there is no universal size for a “large” LEGO set.
Compare the practical trade-offs

Also consider the case footprint, cost, and how often you expect to access the set. No neutral cost comparison or independent comparison of case materials was available in the cited sources. If a seller advertises UV protection, check the specification for the exact product; that claim is not an independent performance test. Regardless of the case, avoid direct sunlight.

Use product dimensions and compatibility claims carefully
LEGO’s Play and Display Case – Blue 5006157 is an example of an enclosed display: LEGO lists a transparent cover, six gray baseplates, and dimensions of 15.5 inches wide by 5.5 inches deep by over 7.5 inches high. Those compact dimensions do not establish that it fits a large build; compare them with the assembled model and the case’s interior clearance.
For a set-specific example, Wicked Brick lists an acrylic case designed for LEGO Icons Concorde set 10318 and describes it as UV protected and dust proof. Those are the retailer’s claims, not independent test results. Check the listing’s current availability, region, dimensions, and exact product specifications before relying on compatibility or protection claims. Clean carefully when dust or grime needs attention
LEGO’s cleaning instructions address cleaning elements by hand, not a routine for dusting an assembled display. They do not set an official dusting schedule or recommend a particular brush. For loose bricks, LEGO recommends water no hotter than 104°F (40°C) and a soft cloth or sponge; mild detergent may be used, followed by a rinse with clear water. For electronic or other sensitive elements containing metal, use a cloth moistened with water and mild detergent without perfume or oil. See LEGO’s cleaning instructions.
- Do not wash elements in a washing machine or dishwasher.
- Do not dry them in an oven, microwave, or hair dryer.
- Do not leave them in direct sunlight to dry; excessive heat may change a brick’s shape.
For an assembled set, a cover reduces direct exposure to dust; if cleaning requires disassembly, follow LEGO’s hand-cleaning guidance for the loose elements.
