Outbyte PC Repair FREEClear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →You can opt out of X’s documented Grok training and fine-tuning data sharing in your account settings. Go to Settings and privacy → Privacy & Safety → Data sharing and personalization → Grok & Third-party Collaborators, then switch off the option under Data Sharing. X says you can continue using Grok on X after opting out, but the control has limits: it does not cover every kind of AI-related processing, and submitting feedback may still allow a conversation to be used for training.
Turn off Grok training data sharing
- Open X and go to Settings and privacy.
- Select Privacy & Safety, then Data sharing and personalization.
- Open Grok & Third-party Collaborators.
- Under Data Sharing, turn off the option allowing public data and Grok interactions, inputs, and results to be used for training and fine-tuning.
These are the labels in X’s Grok-specific help instructions. Menu presentation can change. X’s general settings guide describes a broader route on iOS and Android: profile photo → Settings and privacy → Privacy and safety → Personalization and data. On desktop, X says settings changed while logged in apply to the account across devices. See X Help’s Grok instructions and its general personalization and data settings guide.
What the training control covers—and what it does not
X says it may share public X data and a person’s interactions with Grok on X with xAI for training and fine-tuning generative AI models. Its description includes public posts and associated metadata, public Spaces, and public profile information. The policy describes categories of data that may be shared; it does not establish that every individual post is used.
X describes this toggle as an opt-out from training and fine-tuning. It says opting out does not stop you from using Grok on X, and states that your personal data about interactions with, inputs to, and results from Grok will not be used to train or fine-tune Grok. But X also identifies exceptions and boundaries:

- Normal use of Grok-powered features: X says the setting does not prevent a deployed model from learning as a result of normal use of an X feature powered by Grok.
- Feedback: If you submit feedback such as a thumbs-up or thumbs-down, X says it and xAI may use that conversation and related data to train and fine-tune Grok.
- Other purposes: X separately describes using public profile information, public posts, top posts, engagement, interests, and Grok interactions for personalization. Training and personalization are distinct purposes, so check the separate personalization setting if you want to address that too.
These are X Help’s descriptions of its controls and practices, not an independent verification of how a model or data pipeline behaves. The reviewed help pages do not say that opting out removes information already incorporated into a trained model.
Turn off Grok personalization separately
If you also want to stop X from using data for Grok personalization, look for Grok Personalization in the same general settings area and switch off Allow X to personalize your experience with Grok. This is a separate control from the training and fine-tuning opt-out, so changing one should not be treated as changing the other. X describes its data use and available controls on its Grok help page.

Delete your Grok conversation history
Deleting conversations is another separate action; it is not the training opt-out. In X settings, go to Privacy & Safety → Data sharing and personalization → Grok, then choose Delete Conversation History. X says deleted conversations are removed within 30 days, except where retention is required for security or legal reasons. That timeline is X’s stated policy, not a guarantee that every associated record is erased in all circumstances.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Should you protect your posts?
Protecting posts is a broader privacy choice, not just a Grok setting. X says protected posts are not used to train underlying Grok and xAI models or surfaced in response to user queries. But protected posts are visible only to your followers; public posts can be seen by anyone. If you want to keep posts publicly visible, use the training opt-out rather than protecting the account solely for this purpose.
