How do I stop pop-up ads on my Samsung phone?
Use the ad’s location to choose the right fix. Samsung distinguishes website pop-ups from ads generated by third-party apps and notifications, and documents a separate charging-screen ad feature in Samsung Global Goals.

Samsung says pop-up ads can take several forms and are often associated with third-party apps. Its US support page says, “In most cases, if not all, pop-up ads are caused by a third-party app you recently installed.” This is troubleshooting guidance, not a reason to assume every unwanted ad is malware. How do I block pop-ups in Samsung Internet or Chrome?
These controls apply to pop-ups and redirects in the browser you configure. They do not disable ads sent by other apps or shown over unrelated screens.

Samsung Internet
- Open Samsung Internet and tap Menu.
- Tap Settings, then Privacy dashboard.
- Turn on Block pop-ups.
Samsung Internet also has an Ad blockers area where you can find optional browser add-ons. Samsung notes that not all are free; installing one is not a system-wide fix for ads from other apps.
Chrome
- Open Chrome and tap More options.
- Tap Settings, then Site settings.
- Tap Pop-ups and redirects and turn the setting off.
Chrome’s Ad privacy controls are a separate preference area; they are not the pop-up-and-redirect switch.

Why am I getting ads on my home screen or over other apps?
An ad that appears outside a browser may be coming from an app, rather than from a website. To check, use Samsung’s Safe mode troubleshooting path: third-party apps do not run there, so the ad stopping in Safe mode is a clue that one of them may be responsible. It does not identify the app by itself.
- Enter Safe mode using the instructions for your Galaxy model, then see whether the ads continue.
- If they stop, restart the phone normally and open Settings > Apps.
- Sort or review the list by recently installed or updated apps. Uninstall suspicious apps one at a time, starting with apps you do not recognize or no longer need.
- After each removal, check whether the ads stop. Avoid removing an app you rely on until you have identified it and considered what depends on it.
Samsung’s Galaxy troubleshooting guide describes Safe mode, reviewing recent installs or updates, and removing apps that may be causing ads. An ad inside an app can be different from an unsolicited overlay elsewhere on the phone: Google Play permits compliant apps to show ads within the app serving them, according to Samsung Australia’s guidance.

How do I stop ads showing as notifications?
First identify the app that sent the notification. On Galaxy phones, you can review recently sent notifications in Settings > Notifications. Or, when the ad notification appears, press and hold it to open its notification controls and turn off notifications for that app. Samsung UK documents both approaches in its guide to removing ads from a Galaxy smartphone.
This stops that app’s notifications; it may not stop a separate full-screen ad or overlay from the same app. If ads continue outside notifications, investigate the app itself using the Safe mode steps above.

What if ads appear on the lock screen while charging?
If the ads appear specifically while the phone is charging and Samsung Global Goals is configured, check that app before removing anything. Open Samsung Global Goals > Settings and turn off Charge screen ads. Samsung describes this as a targeted cause of charging-time lock-screen ads, not a general explanation for every lock-screen ad. If the phone is also slow or freezing, or you suspect an unsafe app, use Samsung’s built-in Device care scan and review flow. Samsung says Device care can scan for threats and lets you review and uninstall apps identified as risky. Follow the prompts on your device; Samsung notes that screens and notification options can vary by Android version. Its troubleshooting instructions explain the Device care check.

Do not jump straight to a factory reset. Samsung mentions it as an alternative for someone who has recently backed up data and prefers not to inspect apps individually—not as the first step for an ordinary pop-up.
What if the settings look different?
Samsung menu names and screens vary by model and software version. If a path does not match your phone, look for the equivalent browser, notification, or app controls in Settings, or consult support instructions for your Galaxy model. Keep the scope of each fix in mind: browser controls handle browser behavior, notification controls handle notifications, and Safe mode helps narrow down third-party app causes.
