On an iPhone, iPad, Mac, or Apple Vision Pro, go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements and turn off Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence. If your device shows Improve Siri & Dictation instead, turn that off. Apple says this optional setting governs whether eligible Siri, Dictation, and Translate interactions may be used to improve its features and train foundation models. Turning it off stops opting in going forward; it does not automatically delete data Apple may already hold.
Turn off the improvement setting on each device
Use the option that appears on your device; labels can vary by software version and platform. Apple’s current instructions list these paths:

Apple says the choice made during setup can apply to new connected Apple devices or supported HomeKit accessories set up with that iPhone or iPad when Siri is on. You can change the choice later in the settings of each device. Apple’s Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence privacy notice and Apple Support’s instructions describe these controls.

Apple says that with Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence enabled, it may collect and use text and audio interactions with Siri, Dictation, and Translate, including conversations in the Siri app. Information may include audio, request and response transcripts, request category, device specifications, performance statistics, and approximate device location. Apple says this information can help improve Siri, Dictation, Search, Translate, other language-processing features, and Apple foundation models. Apple says this history is associated with a random identifier generated by the device, which rotates multiple times per hour and is not tied to an Apple Account or email address. It says opted-in data may be retained for up to two years, while a small subset that has been reviewed may be kept longer. Some data may be reviewed by graders; Apple says audio review is conducted only by its employees. These are Apple’s descriptions of its practices, not an independent audit.
Apple also states: “Your request history is not used to build a marketing profile, and is never sold to anyone.” That statement appears in the same Apple privacy notice.

Opting out is different from deleting past requests
Turning off the improvement setting changes future participation; it is not a command to erase every previously collected record. Apple offers a separate option to delete Siri and Dictation requests associated with the rotating identifier, including audio recordings and computer-generated transcripts. Apple says requests more than six months old, as well as a small reviewed sample, may no longer be associated with that identifier and may not be deletable through this mechanism. Decide whether to change related Siri settings
Check how routine Siri requests are processed
Turning off model improvement does not mean Siri can provide every requested service without sending data to Apple. Apple says Siri Settings indicates whether spoken requests are processed on-device or sent to Apple servers. Its Siri and Dictation privacy notice says Apple does not store Siri audio data unless you opt in to the improvement program described there.

Delete transcripts stored locally by disabling Siri and Dictation
Apple says disabling both Siri and Dictation deletes transcripts stored on the device and used to personalize the experience. This also turns off Siri and Dictation, so it is a more disruptive choice than switching off model improvement. Apple’s Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence privacy notice describes this related control.
Consider Apple’s ChatGPT extension separately
If you enable the ChatGPT extension in Siri and opt in to Improve Siri & Apple Intelligence, Apple says it may include requests, audio recordings, transcripts, and the associated conversation in Siri and Dictation request history. This describes Apple’s handling; it does not establish the separate provider’s retention practices.
