To run a devotional podcast on YouTube around the clock, create a YouTube encoder stream, send it from a computer or cloud service, and monitor it for interruptions. First confirm that your channel is eligible, then schedule a stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder with the stream URL and key, and check the preview before going live. For a do-it-yourself setup, plan for reliable upload bandwidth, operator checks, music rights, and an independent recording: YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived but does not promise a complete archive for a continuous session longer than 12 hours.

What you need before starting

YouTube’s encoder workflow suits a podcast with spoken audio, music you have permission to use, a static image, or other prepared visuals. You can use streaming software on a computer or a dedicated hardware encoder; hardware is not a requirement for a basic podcast.

  • A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s eligibility guidance lists these as requirements. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
  • An encoder that can send video and audio to YouTube. Choose one you can operate and recover if it stops.
  • A stable internet connection with adequate upload capacity for the chosen settings.
  • Permission for the music, recordings, compositions, lyrics, and performances in the program. Religious subject matter alone does not establish that the content is cleared for streaming.
  • A plan for monitoring the broadcast, handling failures, and keeping a separate recording if you need a reliable copy.

Set up the YouTube live stream

  1. Enable and confirm live access. Sign in to the channel you will use and follow YouTube’s live-stream eligibility steps. If live streaming is not available, resolve verification or any restriction before scheduling the event.
  2. Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. Choose the encoder workflow, then create a stream or schedule one. Set the title, description, visibility, and other event details. Scheduling creates a watch page that you can share in advance.
  3. Copy the connection details. In Live Control Room, retrieve the stream URL and stream key and enter them in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream. If it is exposed, replace it in Studio and update the encoder.
  4. Configure and start the encoder feed. Select the video and audio sources, set the output parameters, and start sending the feed. Wait for YouTube’s preview, then check that the picture and audio are correct before starting the public stream.
  5. Verify the viewer experience. Open the watch page on a separate device, preferably a phone using a different connection. Confirm that viewers can hear the program clearly and that the stream is public or otherwise set to the intended visibility.

Use YouTube’s current interface and prompts if labels change. Its encoder instructions explain stream creation, scheduling, and connection details: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.

Choose practical video and audio settings

Set the output to match the actual program and measured upload capacity, not your internet download speed. An audio-led show with a still image can often use a modest resolution; a program with detailed visuals may justify more. YouTube’s recommendations for ordinary SDR RTMP/RTMPS streams include H.264, H.265, or AV1 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR), up to 60 frames per second, and a two-second keyframe interval (not more than four seconds). Its bitrate recommendations vary by codec and resolution. For H.264, YouTube lists 10 Mbps for 1080p at 30 fps and 4 Mbps for 720p at 30 fps. These are platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular connection will sustain a stream.

  • Resolution and frame rate: Pick the least demanding setting that serves the visuals. A static background does not need high frame rate.
  • Bitrate: Use YouTube’s relevant recommendation for your selected codec, resolution, and frame rate, then confirm the connection has headroom.
  • Keyframes: Set a two-second interval where the encoder allows it; do not exceed four seconds under YouTube’s guidance.
  • Ingest: YouTube recommends RTMPS, which encrypts the feed while it travels to Google’s servers. HLS is another path, but it has higher latency and requires an HLS-capable encoder and specific segment and playlist settings; it is not needed for the basic setup.

Check YouTube’s current table before configuring the encoder because recommended rates depend on the exact output: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

Make a continuous stream more resilient

A 24/7 schedule is not the same as guaranteed uptime. YouTube warns that a connectivity disruption can break a stream, and its guidance recommends reliable connectivity, upload-speed testing, bandwidth headroom, advance testing, preview checks, and ongoing monitoring. It recommends 20% upload-bandwidth headroom beyond the stream’s needs. Test the actual encoder, network, and audio chain before launch rather than relying on a speed-test result alone.

  • The new generation of the songwriter's interface: Plug in your mic and guitar and let Scarlett Solo 4th Gen bring big studio sound to wherever you make music
  • Studio-quality sound: With a huge 120dB dynamic range, the newest generation of Scarlett uses the same converters as Focusrite’s flagship interfaces, found in the world's biggest studios

  • Everything in the box: Includes Pro Tools Intro+, Ableton Live Lite, Cubase LE, and Hitmaker Expansion: a suite of essential effects, powerful software instruments, and easy-to-use mastering tools
  1. Test the complete chain. Run a private or unlisted test with the same computer, encoder, network, and settings planned for the broadcast. Check for dropped frames, audio gaps, sync problems, and overheating or sleep behavior.
  2. Keep the machine awake. If encoding locally, prevent automatic sleep, updates, or scheduled restarts from interrupting the process. Keep the computer and network equipment ventilated and powered reliably.
  3. Assign monitoring. Decide who checks stream health, audio, and the public watch page, and how often. A 24-hour broadcast needs a response plan, not just a successful launch.
  4. Plan recovery. Write down how the operator will restart the encoder, confirm the feed in Live Control Room, and check the viewer page after a failure. Test any backup connection or failover arrangement.
  5. Consider power protection based on your setup. A UPS may help keep the encoder and network equipment running during a power interruption, but the necessary size and runtime depend on the actual equipment and desired backup duration.

Decide how to handle replays and recordings

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Its guidance does not promise that a continuous stream longer than 12 hours will produce a complete replay. If preserving each day’s program matters, do not rely on a single 24-hour-plus session as your only recording.

  • Consider dividing programming into shorter scheduled sessions, while checking how the current Studio workflow handles the transitions.
  • Record a local master independently if you need a dependable copy, and verify that the recording file is being created and growing during the stream.
  • Run a test broadcast and inspect its archive before relying on YouTube replay behavior for your production process.

These are prudent safeguards, not guarantees about how YouTube will handle every account or long session. YouTube’s encoder and streaming guidance is available at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder and Streaming tips.

Clear devotional music and performance rights in India

Before streaming, identify the rights in every item: the underlying composition and lyrics, the specific sound recording, and any performer’s contribution. A devotional song may involve separate rights in the musical work and in a particular recording. Keep written permissions and check that they cover online livestreaming, relevant territories, the planned duration, monetization if applicable, and replay or archive use.

YouTube’s livestream terms require compliance with its Community Guidelines and applicable law, and place responsibility on the content provider to have necessary rights, including music licensing rights: YouTube Terms of Service. India’s Copyright Act includes an exception for certain performances or communications in the course of a bona fide religious ceremony. That wording does not establish that a standalone devotional podcast, continuous online radio-style stream, or recording used outside a ceremony qualifies. Do not treat religious content as automatically cleared; seek qualified legal advice if the application of an exception is material to your plans. The statutory text is at Copyright Act, 1957.

Monetization is optional

You do not need to monetize a stream to start it. YouTube says channels in the YouTube Partner Program can monetize live streams; check your current channel eligibility and Studio settings before making financial plans. Details: YouTube live-stream guidance.
