If those offer no answer, a detector can provide another clue—but neither a listening impression nor an automated result proves a track’s origin. AI-assisted music is also not the same as music generated entirely by AI.
Check the track and artist disclosures first
Look for a track label or song credit
Open the album or track page and inspect its credits. Deezer says it labels albums that contain tracks its system detects as AI-generated. Spotify’s AI Credits can identify disclosed AI contributions to areas such as vocals, lyrics, or production. The credits depend on information provided by artists, labels, or distributors, so a track without an AI credit may still have involved AI. Deezer’s detector announcement and Spotify’s AI feature announcement describe these distinctions.
Understand what a Spotify AI Persona badge means
The AI Persona badge refers to the artist identity, which may be AI-generated; it is not a label saying that a particular song was generated by AI. Spotify says the badge concerns the artist’s public identity, not how the music was made. Treat it as context about who or what the profile represents, and use song credits or other evidence to assess the track itself.
Scan a playlist with Deezer’s online detector
Deezer announced a free web-based detector that can scan playlists from selected streaming services. Its June 2026 announcement said the tool covered 20 commonly used services and was available in 27 languages; the live interface is the place to check which services are currently supported. Deezer said a paid Deezer subscription is not required. This is a service-specific detection tool, not a universal or independently verified test.

- Open Deezer’s AI music detector page and follow its link to the detector.
- Select the streaming service that hosts the playlist and connect the account as prompted.
- Let the tool scan the playlist, then review its track-level results. Confirm an unexpected result against available credits or credible artist statements before describing the track as AI-generated.
Deezer says its own service labels detected AI tracks and excludes them from algorithmic recommendations and editorial playlists, but leaves them available to listeners. That label describes Deezer’s detection and labeling on its platform; it is not a guarantee that every AI-made track on Deezer—or on another service—will be identified. Deezer’s 2025 AI music report explains its platform policy and figures.
Check the artist’s public history for corroborating clues
When a release has no clear disclosure, look for a consistent artist identity: older public posts, linked social accounts, performance dates, and a coherent release history. These details can support an assessment, but they do not prove who made a recording. Spotify says its artist verification review may consider concert dates, merchandise, and linked social accounts, while allowing artists who use AI responsibly if they present themselves authentically. A sparse profile is a reason to investigate, not evidence that the artist is synthetic. Spotify’s explanation of artist verification gives examples of the signals it may consider.

Know whether AI made the whole track or only helped
“AI-generated” can describe different levels of involvement. YouTube’s music-partner guidance distinguishes fully Gen AI content from partly Gen AI content. A complete prompt-generated composition, instrumental performance, and vocals fit the fully generated category. AI might instead produce one arrangement layer or help develop lyrics or a melody before a person records the audio; that is partial involvement. YouTube’s music-partner guidance describes these categories.
Spotify’s AI Credits are intended to disclose contributions to particular parts of a song, while an AI Persona badge describes the artist profile. Keep those questions separate: who or what is presented as the artist, and how was this track made?

Why listening and artwork cannot settle it
AI music can sound convincing, and human-made music can have polished, repetitive, or unusual qualities that listeners associate with AI. Deezer’s head of research and development told the Associated Press that listening is difficult and that older clues, such as distinctive vocal reverb, may stop being useful as generation models change. Generic lyrics, a “too perfect” or rough vocal, repetitive structure, and AI-looking cover art may prompt a closer look, but none establishes provenance. The Associated Press’s reporting on AI music detection discusses the limits of listening-based judgments.
Automated systems may detect audio patterns that people cannot hear, but a result is still evidence to weigh rather than a verdict for every track. A research paper on AI-generated music detection identifies audio manipulation and performance on models absent from a detector’s training as continuing challenges. A remix, edited file, or compressed stream may not behave like the examples used to evaluate a system. The paper “AI-Generated Music Detection and its Challenges” discusses these limitations.

Put platform claims and statistics in context
Figures published by Deezer describe its service or its own system, not the entire music industry. Deezer reported labeling more than 13.4 million detected AI tracks in 2025. It also said that around 90,000 AI-generated tracks were delivered to Deezer per day, with AI tracks accounting for more than half of daily uploads at a peak in June 2026. Those are Deezer upload figures, not the share of tracks or plays across all streaming services.
For Deezer streams in 2025, the company reported that fully AI-generated music represented 1–3% of streams, and that up to 85% of streams on those tracks were identified as fraudulent. These are Deezer’s platform-specific figures and fraud assessment, not an industry-wide rate. Deezer also reported 99.8% detection accuracy and fewer than one false positive per 10,000 human-made tracks for its system; those are company-reported performance claims, not an independent guarantee for any track a listener checks.

A separate 2025 survey commissioned by Deezer and conducted by Ipsos found that 97% of surveyed listeners could not distinguish fully AI-generated music from human-made music in a blind test. The test used two AI songs and one human-made song and included 9,000 people across eight countries. It describes that survey, not every listener’s ability or every kind of music. Deezer’s announcement of the Ipsos survey gives the reported scope.
Quick Recap
Use careful wording when the evidence is incomplete
- Direct disclosure: Say a track is AI-generated or AI-assisted when a platform label, song credit, creator statement, or credible reporting supports that specific claim.
- Detector result only: Attribute it to the tool—for example, “Deezer’s detector flagged the track”—rather than presenting it as confirmed fact.
- Conflicting or missing clues: Say the track’s origin is unconfirmed. Do not turn a profile’s thin history, an AI-like sound, or missing credits into proof.
