When a puzzle in Order of the Sinking Star stops making sense, do not keep guessing full solutions. Identify the active character’s rule, make one small move to test a specific idea, watch what changes, and undo if the move damages a useful route. If the puzzle still teaches you nothing, leave it for another accessible area and return after learning more. That spoiler-light loop fits the game’s shifting character abilities and interconnected worlds.
Start by identifying the rule this character changes
Before moving anything, name three things: the character you control, the object or objects that matter, and the hazard or goal that constrains the route. Then state the active character’s ability in one sentence. This prevents a familiar-looking board from tricking you into applying the wrong rule.
| Character or system | What the available pre-release coverage describes | Question to test on your board |
|---|---|---|
| Valens | Pushes movable objects. | Can you approach the object from the side needed to push it toward the goal? |
| Tif | Pulls movable objects. | Does moving away from the object pull it, and will the destination remain reachable? |
| Isidore | Swaps places with objects along line of sight. | Is the object in a clear line, and where will the swap leave you? |
| Other world abilities | The PlayStation hands-on account describes beam powers and reflection swapping; the developer announcement also describes light beams and mirrors interacting in Gold Rooms. | Does the board depend on aligning, redirecting, or combining a world mechanic rather than moving a block? |
These are reported examples, not a complete list of every character or board rule. If the move you expect does not happen, pause and revise your rule statement before trying a new route.
Test one idea at a time
A useful move answers a question. Avoid making several changes in a row before checking the board; otherwise, if the position becomes confusing, you will not know which assumption was wrong.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Write down the unknown. For example: “I do not know whether this object moves when I cross to its far side.”
- Choose the smallest move that distinguishes possibilities. Test the object’s behavior, a line of sight, or whether a passage stays open—not the entire route to the goal.
- Observe the result. Check the character’s new position, the object’s position, and whether a corridor or interaction has changed.
- Undo if the move closes a useful option. A PlayStation hands-on report describes rewind/undo as useful when stuck. Treat it as a way to test hypotheses, not as a reason to move carelessly.
- Update your rule statement. Keep what the test established and change only the part that failed.
For example, if a block seems to need a push through a narrow passage, first check whether you can still reach the side from which that push is possible. A preview account described getting trapped by poorly positioned crystals and recovering with undo. That is a reason to watch for awkward positions, not evidence that every move is irreversible.
Check whether a move can leave you without a route
When movable objects, crystals, enemies, beams, mirrors, stones, or water-route objects are involved, trace the consequences of the next move before committing to a sequence. In particular, ask:

- After the move, can the character still reach the side needed for the next push or pull?
- Will the object block a narrow passage or another object’s route?
- If a swap or beam interaction changes positions, is the resulting position still useful?
- Is there a visible way to undo the move if the test fails?
You do not need to predict every later move. The point is to notice positions that appear to remove access, then test cautiously or undo rather than building a longer plan on an unverified assumption.
Leave a puzzle when your attempts stop teaching you anything
If several moves reproduce the same failure, stop repeating them. Record the puzzle’s key unknown in a short note—such as “need to learn how the mirror affects the beam”—then look for another accessible area. The official announcement describes backtracking to another region when a path is difficult, and a PlayStation hands-on report likewise says its player could move on after hitting a wall.

Leaving is a progress strategy, not proof that you missed a hidden trick. A different area may introduce a character, object, or world rule that makes the original board easier to reason about. Return when you have a new hypothesis, not merely because you have forgotten the old dead end.
Revisit old assumptions when worlds and characters combine
The game is described as an interconnected adventure in which mechanics evolve and worlds can be revisited. The PlayStation report says character abilities and world mechanics can combine; the developer announcement describes Gold Rooms linking worlds and pairing systems such as light beams and mirrors. So when a previously familiar puzzle becomes solvable later, first ask whether the board now calls for a combination of known rules rather than a wholly new rule.

Use a quick comparison before committing to a route:
- Character: Is the relevant action a push, pull, swap, or another ability?
- Object: Are you manipulating a block, crystal, enemy, beam, mirror, stone, or something involved in a water route?
- Route: Can the move be undone, or is leaving the area the better way to preserve progress?
- Scope: Does one world’s mechanic explain the board, or does it appear to combine characters or systems?
Keep the game’s scale and release timing in perspective
Thekla’s Steam listing, checked October 7, 2026, describes more than one thousand handcrafted puzzles. A PlayStation Blog hands-on report by Corey Brotherson, published July 21, 2026, instead says “900+ levels.” Those are different descriptions—puzzles versus levels—and the sources do not explain how the counts relate, so they should not be treated as directly interchangeable.
