To show the Windows 11 taskbar on every connected monitor, open Taskbar settings, expand Taskbar behaviors, and turn on Show my taskbar on all displays. If you also want app buttons on every monitor’s taskbar, choose All taskbars in the separate app-button setting.
Show the taskbar on every monitor
- Right-click an empty area of the taskbar and select Taskbar settings.
- Expand Taskbar behaviors.
- Check Show my taskbar on all displays. Microsoft describes this option as displaying the taskbar on multiple monitors. Microsoft Support: Customize the Taskbar in Windows.
Choose where app buttons appear
The taskbar visibility checkbox and the app-button dropdown control different things. To place app buttons on every monitor’s taskbar, open When using multiple displays, show my taskbar apps on… and choose All taskbars.
The dropdown also offers choices for showing buttons on the main taskbar and the taskbar where a window is open, or only on the taskbar where that window is open. Choose based on whether you want the same app buttons available across screens or prefer them tied to the monitor displaying each window. A Microsoft Q&A answer likewise distinguishes the all-displays checkbox from the app-button choice.
If Windows does not show the other monitor
The multiple-display taskbar options are available when Windows detects more than one display. Check whether the screen appears in Display settings before troubleshooting the taskbar itself.

- Open Settings > System > Display.
- Expand Multiple displays, then select Detect if the connected monitor is missing.
- Press Windows key + P and select Extend if you want a desktop spread across screens. Choose Duplicate only if you want the displays to mirror the same content.
Microsoft’s multiple-monitor guidance covers detection and display modes. Detecting a screen is a way to check for an unrecognized display; it is not a guaranteed fix for every taskbar problem.
If the taskbar still seems missing
In Taskbar settings > Taskbar behaviors, check whether Automatically hide the taskbar is enabled. If it is, move the pointer to or touch the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the taskbar. Microsoft’s guidance does not establish a separate auto-hide control for each monitor, so do not assume the behavior can be configured independently per display.

Physical monitors and virtual desktops are separate
The setting for showing the taskbar on all displays applies to physical monitors. Windows has a different taskbar choice for virtual desktops under Settings > System > Multitasking > Desktops, where you can control whether taskbar windows come from the current desktop or all desktops. That setting does not determine which physical monitors show a taskbar. See Microsoft’s Configure Multiple Desktops in Windows.
