Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →In current Windows 11, Lock is under Start > Power; in Windows 10, it is under the Start menu’s user picture or Accounts icon. Microsoft’s documented settings do not verify a supported way to show or hide that specific Start menu command. To lock Windows directly, press Windows key + L.
Where to find Lock in Windows 11 and Windows 10
The menu location depends on the Windows version. Microsoft’s current Windows 11 instructions place Lock under Power, while its Windows 10 instructions use the user picture or Accounts icon. Microsoft notes that earlier Windows 11 versions placed the command under Accounts.
| Windows version | Documented route to Lock |
|---|---|
| Current Windows 11 instructions | Open Start > Power > Lock. |
| Earlier Windows 11 versions | Open Start and select Accounts; Microsoft says Lock appeared there. |
| Windows 10 | Open Start, select the user picture or Accounts icon, then select Lock. |
These are Microsoft’s documented routes, not a guarantee that every Windows build or organization-managed device displays identical controls. For Start menu navigation, including account and power options, see Microsoft’s Start menu navigation guidance.
Can you show or hide the Start menu Lock command?
Microsoft’s cited documentation does not establish a supported direct toggle for showing or hiding the Lock item in the Start menu’s account-profile menu. If the command is missing, check the Windows version and build and whether an organization manages the device; its absence alone does not establish that a setting was deliberately changed.

What the Remove Lock Computer policy actually does
Microsoft documents a policy named Remove Lock Computer (DisableLockComputer) at User Configuration > System > Ctrl+Alt+Del Options. Its stated effect is to prevent users from locking the system from the keyboard using Ctrl+Alt+Delete. The policy description does not say that it removes the Lock item from the Start menu profile flyout, so it should not be presented as a verified way to hide that item.
The setting is user-scoped. Microsoft lists Windows 11 version 21H2 or later and Pro, Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions in scope. It is ADMX-backed, and Microsoft documents a SyncML format for MDM configuration. See the Microsoft policy documentation for its scope and configuration details. This administrator-facing policy information does not establish a Group Policy method for Windows Home or a supported registry toggle for the Start menu entry.
