To show a US state ID in Google Wallet, open the ID and follow the requester’s process. Before sharing, review the information Wallet says will be sent; continue only if you agree, then authenticate when prompted. At supported TSA checkpoints, this starts when the agent scans your ID’s QR code. Acceptance is limited, so check the specific airport or app and keep your physical ID available as needed.
Present your ID only after reviewing the requested information

Follow the requester’s instructions. At a supported TSA checkpoint, let the agent scan the QR code. In a participating app, choose Google Wallet when the app prompts you to verify your identity or age.

If you agree to share those fields, continue and authenticate when Wallet prompts you. If you do not agree, cancel instead.
The review step lets you decide whether to proceed; it does not guarantee that the recipient will not keep its own records.

What Google says happens to your ID data
During setup, Google’s process uses photos of the front and back of your physical ID and a short video of your face. Google says it shares the ID information and an image of your face from the video with the issuing government agency only with your consent, so the agency can review the request. If approved, the encrypted digital ID is saved on your device. Google also says data it uses, including analytics data, is handled under its Privacy Policy information referenced in its state-ID help.
When you present the ID, Wallet displays the information to be shared before you approve. Google’s state-ID help says: “Your ID or licence is encrypted and saved on your device in Google Wallet.” This describes storage of the approved digital credential; it does not mean no information is ever processed or transmitted.

Use activity history if you want an on-device sharing record
Activity history is off by default. If enabled, it can show who received your ID, which information was shared, and when. Google says this history is stored on the device and can be viewed only after identity verification.

Open the state ID in Wallet and open its menu.

Choose View and manage activity.

Enable Activity history if you want Wallet to keep this on-device record. You can turn it off later; Google says doing so deletes the activity stored on the device.

The history is a record in Wallet, not proof that the requester or another service has deleted or does not retain its own records.

Google lists TSA at supported airports and some participating apps as places where US state IDs in Wallet may be used. TSA use requires a REAL ID-compliant digital credential; Google says a non-REAL-ID digital ID is not accepted at TSA domestic-flight checkpoints. Some apps, including car-rental services, may accept a digital ID for identity or age verification, but acceptance depends on the app.

Check with the airport or requester before relying on the digital ID.

For TSA, confirm that the airport supports digital IDs and that your credential meets the stated REAL ID requirement.

Carry your physical ID as needed. Google’s guidance warns that digital IDs are not accepted universally.
Do not confuse state IDs with passport-based ID passes
Google documents a separate ID-pass feature created from supported passports. Its requirements include Android 9 or later, NFC, Bluetooth, nearby devices, and a screen lock. Those requirements apply to that passport-based flow; they are not established as universal setup requirements for state IDs. Follow the state-ID setup instructions for your location and issuer.
Which Wallet privacy setting applies?
Google classifies US driving licences and state IDs as private passes. Its private-pass guidance says these passes are not used to personalize the Wallet experience by default and may require verification to view or use across Google services. However, Google also notes that digital IDs and some partner-issued passes are managed differently from the general “use private pass across Google” control. Do not assume that changing that general setting governs your digital state ID.
