To hand off Figma specs and assets, share the relevant file or frame, give the developer the access they need, and confirm that copying and exporting are allowed. Developers can use can view for inspection and comments; editing requires can edit. Dev Mode itself requires a Full or Dev seat on an eligible paid plan, while View seats can still support basic inspection and asset export.
Prepare the file for handoff
Make the relevant design easy to understand before sharing it. Developers rely on clear layer and component names to identify what they are inspecting, and component descriptions can explain intended use and variants. Mark work as ready for development where that status is part of your team’s workflow.
- Use meaningful names for layers and components.
- Add component descriptions that clarify use or variants.
- Use annotations when measurements or implementation context need explanation.
- Link the file or relevant design layers from the ticket or project documentation.
Share the file or the specific frame
In the Figma file, open Share to invite a developer or copy a link. For a focused handoff, select the relevant frame and copy its link so the recipient lands on that part of the design. Figma also provides a link to Dev Mode.
A link does not grant access to a private file by itself. The recipient must sign in and have permission to open the file. Choose an audience and permission level appropriate for the file’s confidentiality rather than assuming that anyone with the link should have access.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Choose access based on the developer’s task
| Access setup | Best for | Important limits |
|---|---|---|
| Can view | Inspecting designs and commenting without changing the file. | Copying or exporting can be restricted by the file owner. A View seat supports basic inspection, but does not enable Dev Mode. |
| Can edit | Developers who need to change the design file. | Use only when editing is required; it grants broader ability than inspection access. |
| Full or Dev seat with eligible paid plan | Using Dev Mode for design inspection and handoff details. | Dev Mode is not available on the Starter plan. Seat eligibility and file permissions both matter. |
Before sending the link, check any inherited permissions and whether copying, sharing, or exporting is disabled. Figma’s documented View-seat basics include properties, measurements, copying code, and asset export, but the file’s controls can still limit what a recipient may do.
Open Dev Mode and inspect the design
- Open the Figma Design file and choose the Dev Mode toggle, or press Shift+D.
- Select the frame or layer the developer needs to inspect.
- Use the Inspect panel to review available layout, typography, style, variable, component, and code information.
- Use annotations and component descriptions in the file for context that properties alone do not convey.
For components connected through Code Connect, Figma can show linked design-system code in place of autogenerated snippets. What appears depends on whether the component has been connected.

Export assets for implementation
Select the layer or object to export, then use its export controls to choose a configured format and download the asset. Figma documents PNG, JPG, SVG, and PDF export formats. Available export settings can depend on what the file has configured and what access the recipient has.
For image layers, distinguish the original source image from an export rendered at the layer’s current size. The latter reflects the design’s displayed dimensions; it is not necessarily the original-resolution source. If a developer needs a particular scale or format, specify it in the handoff rather than relying on an unspecified default.
