On Amazon.com in the United States, share Prime benefits through Amazon Family, formerly called Amazon Household. Each adult uses a separate Amazon account; you do not need to share your Amazon password. One adult must have Prime, and the other adult must live in the same household.
How to share Prime with another adult
- Open Amazon and go to Your Account → Your Amazon Family. In the Amazon Shopping app, go to Me → Your Account → Manage Your Amazon Family.
- Select Add Adult. Send an email invitation or choose the option to sign up together on the same device. Both adults need Amazon accounts.
- Have the invited adult accept the invitation. Amazon says the invitation remains open for 14 days.
- Review the available shared services and content in the Amazon Family hub, then check the payment-sharing details shown in the Amazon.com setup flow before confirming.
Amazon says Amazon Family is free to set up; an existing Prime membership is required to share Prime benefits. Amazon’s US Amazon Family guide has current setup information.
Who can join, and which benefits are shared?
Amazon’s US guide allows one additional adult and up to four children in the same household. Adults must be at least 18 and have their own Amazon accounts. Children cannot shop on Prime through Amazon Family.
Sharing is not identical for every benefit. Amazon currently lists fast, free Prime delivery, access to deal events, selected eBooks and other digital content, Prime Video and Amazon Music access, a free Grubhub+ membership, fuel savings at participating US stations, and Amazon Photos storage. Its guide describes these limits:
#1 Best Overall
- Your favorite music and content – Play music, audiobooks, and podcasts from Amazon Music, Apple Music, Spotify and others or via Bluetooth throughout your home.
- Alexa is happy to help – Ask Alexa for weather updates and to set hands-free timers, get answers to your questions and even hear jokes. Need a few extra minutes in the morning? Just tap your Echo Dot to snooze your alarm.
- Keep your home comfortable – Control compatible smart home devices with your voice and routines triggered by built-in motion or indoor temperature sensors. Create routines to automatically turn on lights when you walk into a room, or start a fan if the inside temperature goes above your comfort zone.
- Do more with device pairing – Fill your home with music using compatible Echo devices in different rooms, or create a home theatre system with Fire TV.
- Say goodbye to drop-offs and buffering - With eero Built-in, Echo Dot doubles as a mesh wifi extender, adding up to 1,000 sq. ft. of wifi coverage to your existing eero network.
| Benefit | Sharing limit stated by Amazon |
|---|---|
| Prime Video and selected reading content | One additional adult and up to four children |
| Amazon Music | One additional adult |
| Amazon Photos | Up to five adults |
These are the limits stated in Amazon’s current US guide; check the Family hub for the benefits available to your accounts because eligibility and offerings can change.
Do adults share orders, passwords, or payment details?
Amazon says adults using their individual accounts cannot see one another’s orders or content. That privacy distinction depends on keeping separate accounts rather than using one shared login.

The exact payment-sharing rules and what payment details a second adult can see in the current US setup are not established by the US information cited here. Review the Amazon.com setup flow before accepting. Amazon’s detailed payment instructions for the UK describe a UK-specific arrangement and should not be treated as confirmation of US policy: UK Amazon Families payment help.
What happens to teens or adults who leave?
Teen accounts
Amazon’s US help describes teen logins for ages 13–17. When a teen turns 18, the adult or teen can remove that login. The teen then loses household Prime benefits and access to payment methods, but keeps certain account information, including order history and saved items. See Amazon’s teen-account help.

Leaving or changing Amazon Family
An adult who leaves loses shared Prime benefits and Family Library access. Amazon’s current US guide says an adult can switch to a different Amazon Family only once every 12 months, but may rejoin the previous family at any time. This is the current rule in Amazon’s US guide; an older Amazon article gave a different waiting period.

Amazon Family is intended for adults in the same household. If the other person lives elsewhere, or you do not want to use a household-sharing setup, the supported alternative is for that person to have an independent Prime membership. Before deciding, consider which benefit they need, whether it is eligible for sharing, and the payment-sharing details shown during setup.
