To set up UPI in Samsung Wallet in India, open Wallet on a compatible Galaxy phone, choose UPI in the payment area, create a profile and Virtual Payment Address (VPA), select your bank, verify the account, and set a UPI PIN. The mobile number used for setup must match the number registered to that bank account. Follow the prompts displayed in your app, as menus can vary by device and software version.
Before you start
- Check that your Galaxy phone supports Samsung Wallet. Availability is device-dependent; check the Wallet app or Samsung support for your specific model and current software. Samsung’s Samsung Wallet page provides compatibility guidance.
- Use the mobile number registered with your bank account. Samsung says the number used to set up UPI must match the number registered to the selected account. Samsung’s BHIM UPI guide
- Have your bank debit or ATM card available. Samsung’s documented PIN-generation flow uses card details for bank verification. Enter them only in the bank-verification flow in the app; never share your UPI PIN or card details with another person.
Samsung’s UPI instructions use the name Samsung Pay, while newer Galaxy phones may present the feature within Samsung Wallet. Samsung also announced UPI onboarding during new-device setup for Galaxy smartphones in India on 30 October 2025. If you skipped that step, look for UPI in Wallet’s payment area rather than expecting the same setup screens on every phone. Samsung Newsroom India
Set up UPI in Samsung Wallet
- Open Samsung Wallet. Sign in to your Samsung account if prompted, accept the displayed terms, and complete any Wallet security setup requested, such as choosing an authentication method and Wallet PIN. These are general Wallet setup steps; the screens may differ from the UPI flow. Samsung Wallet setup support
- Choose UPI in the payment area. Tap the option to continue or start setup. Samsung’s guide describes selecting UPI and tapping Next.
- Create your UPI profile and preferred VPA. A VPA, or Virtual Payment Address, is the address associated with your UPI profile. Follow the options shown in the app.
- Select your bank account. Make sure the phone number used for setup is the same number registered with that bank. If the bank account is not found, check the registered number and confirm with your bank that the account can be used for UPI.
- Verify the account and set your UPI PIN. Select the account awaiting verification, start PIN generation, and complete the bank verification step using debit or ATM card details if requested. Then set the UPI PIN in the app. The bank handles account verification; Samsung does not approve your bank credentials.
Do not disclose your UPI PIN to anyone, including someone claiming to be from Samsung or your bank. Enter it only to authorize a transaction in the app.

Link another bank account
To add an account to your UPI profile, open the bank-account management area and select an option such as Add Bank Account, Link Bank Account, or Manage Bank Account. The exact label can vary. Choose the bank and follow the verification prompts for that account.

What you can do after setup
Samsung’s India materials describe UPI payments for sending and requesting money, scanning UPI QR codes, and paying online using a VPA. For a QR payment, scan the code, enter the amount, and authorize the transaction with your UPI PIN. Samsung Pay India

- Your bank account is missing: Confirm that the phone is using the mobile number registered with that account. Check with your bank if the account is eligible for UPI.
- The app does not show UPI: Confirm that your model and current software support Samsung Wallet and the feature. Menus may differ, and setup can also appear during new-device onboarding.
- PIN generation fails: Follow the current in-app verification instructions and check with your bank if verification is declined. Never send card details or your UPI PIN to someone offering to troubleshoot.
Samsung’s public materials do not provide a current exhaustive list of supported phone models and banks, so availability should be checked for your particular device and account.
