To set up a Samsung Galaxy Watch8 Classic with an Android phone, install Samsung’s Galaxy Wearable app, turn on Bluetooth, and follow the app’s pairing prompts. Before you start, check that your phone meets Samsung’s regional compatibility requirements; Samsung’s current US guidance lists Android 12 or later and at least 1.5 GB of RAM for Watch8-series watches.
Check your phone’s compatibility
Samsung’s US troubleshooting table lists Android 12.0 or later and at least 1.5 GB of RAM for the Galaxy Watch8 series, including phones from Samsung and other Android manufacturers. It says tablets and iOS devices are not supported. See Samsung’s US connection requirements.
Samsung’s support information is not fully consistent across regions: a Samsung Canada compatibility article says Android 11.0 or later, while its troubleshooting guidance says Android 12.0 or later. If your phone runs Android 11, or you are unsure about its RAM or model support, check the current Samsung support page for your country and handset before pairing.
Prepare the watch and phone
- Charge the Galaxy Watch8 Classic, then power it on.
- On your Android phone, turn on Bluetooth in Settings or the quick settings panel.
- Install Samsung’s Galaxy Wearable app from the Google Play Store. Samsung describes it as the app that connects a smartwatch to a compatible phone. Follow Samsung’s setup guide if you need help locating the app or preparing the watch.
Pair the Galaxy Watch8 Classic
- Open Galaxy Wearable. Tap Start if that option appears.
- Select Galaxy Watch8 Classic from the device list. If it does not appear, use the app’s option to add a device and follow the available prompts.
- When the phone and watch display matching pairing or confirmation prompts, verify that they refer to the same device and confirm them.
- Accept the applicable terms and allow permissions requested for the features you want to use. The wording and order of prompts can vary with the phone, software version, and settings.
- Sign in to accounts if prompted, then follow the remaining on-screen instructions to finish setup.
Choose whether to restore or activate cellular service
Restore a previous watch backup
If Samsung offers a backup from a previous watch, choose whether to restore it or set up the Watch8 Classic as new. Depending on the backup, restore choices may include apps, phone settings, Samsung Health data, watch settings, watch face, tiles, widgets, and messages.

Set up cellular service only if you want it
If your watch model supports cellular and you want to use mobile service, follow the carrier activation prompts. Samsung says you can skip this step if you do not want cellular service or have a Wi-Fi model.
Confirm the connection and set preferences
When setup finishes, check Galaxy Wearable to confirm that the watch is connected. Then adjust notifications and other preferences in the app and on the watch. Samsung describes connected features such as notifications, calls, photo transfer, wellness statistics, and Samsung Health syncing, but availability can depend on the phone, software, region, carrier, and configuration. Samsung also notes that screens and settings may vary by provider, phone, or watch; do not assume every manufacturer-specific feature will be available on every Android handset. If pairing does not work
- Confirm Bluetooth is enabled on both devices and check that the phone meets Samsung’s compatibility requirements.
- Make sure Galaxy Wearable is installed and up to date.
- Keep the phone and watch close together, with as few walls and electronic obstacles between them as possible. Samsung gives 10 m (32 ft) as a maximum Bluetooth range, but says the actual distance varies with the environment. See Samsung’s connection troubleshooting guide.
- Restart both devices, then reopen Galaxy Wearable and try again.
- If the watch was paired before, follow the add-device or reconnection route shown in Galaxy Wearable or on the watch. The available route can differ by software version.
Do not factory-reset the watch as an early troubleshooting step: a reset can erase data, and the basic connection checks above are safer to try first.
