For AT Simulations’ Antonov An-28 in Microsoft Flight Simulator, bind pitch, roll and yaw to analogue axes, keep throttle response linear, and soften the controls around centre—especially the rudder. Use separate throttle axes if your quadrant has two independent levers; use one combined throttle axis if you have a single slider. There is no official An-28 binding preset or sensitivity table, so the figures below are starting points, not manufacturer recommendations. The aircraft has no autopilot, making reliable trim and hand-flying controls essential.
At a glance
| Name | Best for | Key spec | Platforms | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Gamepad profile | Flying without dedicated flight controls | Pitch and roll about −40% to −50%; dead zone 5–10% | MSFS 2020 and 2024 | Nov 2026 |
| Desktop joystick or HOTAS profile | General hand-flying and short-field work | Pitch and roll about −20% to −30%; rudder softer if twitchy | MSFS 2020 and 2024 | Nov 2026 |
| Yoke, quadrant and pedals profile | Longer-travel controls and independent engine levers | Pitch and roll about −15%; separate Throttle 1 and Throttle 2 axes | MSFS 2020 and 2024 | Nov 2026 |
These are configuration starting points drawn from general MSFS axis guidance, adjusted for launch-week reports that the An-28’s rudder and nosewheel feel particularly sensitive. Neither Microsoft nor AT Simulations has published An-28-specific percentages.
Which controls should I bind for the An-28?
Bind proportional axes for the primary flight controls, not digital left/right or up/down commands. An axis follows the physical position of a stick, yoke, pedal or lever; a digital command generally sends a control toward full deflection while it is held, so a sensitivity curve cannot make that binding behave like a gradual axis.
Start by connecting your hardware before launching MSFS, creating a dedicated An-28 profile on each device, and filtering the control list to show all commands. Review every connected device—including virtual controllers—and remove duplicate or conflicting assignments. A binding on a second device can still affect the aircraft even if you are not holding that device.

| Physical control | Bind to | Avoid |
|---|---|---|
| Stick or yoke left and right | Ailerons Axis | Aileron Left and Aileron Right on the same axis |
| Stick or yoke forward and back | Elevator Axis | Elevator Up and Elevator Down on the same axis |
| Pedals or twist grip | Rudder Axis | Rudder Left and Rudder Right as a substitute for an axis; do not bind pedals and twist together |
| Left and right toe brakes | Left Brake Axis and Right Brake Axis | Generic brake buttons if the pedals provide independent axes |
| One throttle lever or slider | Throttle Axis (0–100%) | Increase/Decrease Throttle on an analogue lever |
| Two independent throttle levers | Throttle 1 Axis and Throttle 2 Axis | Also assigning the combined Throttle Axis to those same levers |
| Spare lever for propeller control | Propeller axis, if available in the command list | Propeller increase/decrease buttons when the hardware has a suitable axis |
The An-28 is a twin-turboprop powered by two 960-horsepower Glushenkov TVD-10B engines, each driving a three-blade propeller, according to the Microsoft Flight Simulator Team’s 2026 aircraft information. That makes separate engine levers a sensible match for a dual-lever quadrant. A single HOTAS slider is simpler to set up as a combined axis that moves both engines together.
For one lever, choose Throttle Axis (0–100%). For two independent levers, choose Throttle 1 Axis for one engine and Throttle 2 Axis for the other. Do not assign both the combined throttle axis and numbered engine axes to the same physical lever: overlapping assignments can create confusing or unpredictable input. If you use a standard Xbox Wireless Controller profile, the documented suggestion is A to increase throttle and B to decrease it. A spring-return trigger is not an absolute throttle axis, because it does not stay at the position to which it returns.
Useful secondary controls
Give elevator, aileron and rudder trim easy-to-reach buttons, a hat switch, a rotary control or a quadrant trim wheel. You will need to make small corrections because there is no autopilot to hold altitude or heading. Bind flaps, parking brake, view controls and brakes according to the hardware you have. If a condition or mixture control appears in the aircraft’s command list and you have a spare control, you can consider assigning it; do not assume every generic command is modeled or required.

Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Some owners have reported that an autofeather alert clears on takeoff. Treat that as a report, not a definitive operating procedure. The cockpit’s ENG/RUS label switch is a clickspot, not a controller command. Spoiler or speedbrake controls are not a reliable must-have binding: launch-week owners reported being unable to move the spoiler degree control with the mouse or activate spoilers on landing even with a Honeycomb Bravo bound.
What sensitivity settings should I use?
Start with a centred, linear response and change one axis at a time. Add just enough dead zone to stop the input marker from wandering when the hardware is at rest, then soften the centre of pitch, roll and particularly yaw. These adjustments reshape the response of your controller; they do not change the An-28’s flight model or repair bad calibration, duplicate bindings or a faulty device.
The following figures are starting ranges from Ian Stephens of Fly Away Simulation, published as general MSFS guidance in 2026—not official settings for this aircraft. Values use the familiar MSFS 2020 percentage-style axis tuning; in MSFS 2024, reproduce the same curve shape on the sensitivity or hardware-settings graph if the interface presents it differently.
| Hardware and axis | Starting sensitivity | Dead zone | Reactivity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Long-travel yoke: pitch and roll | About −15% or linear | 0–2% | 100% |
| Desktop joystick: pitch and roll | About −20% to −30%; try as far as −40% if still snappy | 0–3% | 100% |
| Gamepad: pitch and roll | About −40% to −50% | 5–10% | 70–90% |
| Twist-grip rudder | About −30% to −50%; a milder first try is −20% to −30% | 2–5%, or only enough to stop drift | Begin at 100% |
| Dedicated rudder pedals | About −20% to −30%; generally less curve than a twist grip | Tiny; add only if needed | Begin at 100% |
| Throttle, propeller or mixture axis | Linear | 0% | 100% |
For a centred axis, apply matching negative sensitivity to both halves so the response stays balanced on either side of centre. Pitch often benefits from slightly more centre softening than roll because small elevator movements can produce obvious attitude changes. A yoke usually has more physical travel than a compact desktop stick, so it generally needs less softening; a gamepad’s short thumbstick travel usually calls for more.

In MSFS 2020, open Options > Controls Options, select the physical device and its active profile, then open Sensitivity. In MSFS 2024, open Settings > Controls and select the device’s sensitivity or hardware settings. The displayed layout can differ, but the practical sequence is the same: identify the correct device and profile, tune one axis, apply the change, and check the result before adjusting another.
- Check the raw input first. With the control untouched, look for a wandering marker. Add a small dead zone only if it does not remain centred. General MSFS guidance suggests around 2–5% can be a starting point for a slightly noisy stick, but a healthy device may need less.
- Set pitch and roll. Begin at the hardware-specific figures above. With a desktop joystick, try around −20% to −30%; give pitch slightly more centre softening than roll if pitch corrections feel abrupt. Use less curve on a long-travel yoke and more on a gamepad.
- Tune yaw separately. If roll and pitch feel acceptable but the An-28’s rudder or nosewheel is twitchy, change only the rudder curve. Twist grips often need more centre softening than pedals. Avoid adding a large dead zone to mask a steep curve.
- Leave power axes linear. Set throttle, propeller and mixture axes to linear response, zero dead zone and full reactivity as the starting point. Do not add a throttle curve on top of aircraft detents.
- Save the device profile and verify it is active. Check every connected device for duplicate pitch, roll, rudder or throttle axes, then confirm the edited profile is the one currently selected for that device.
- Make a controlled adjustment. Check the response in calm air with the aircraft properly trimmed and assistance settings reviewed. Adjust one axis by a small amount at a time; do not compensate for a control problem by changing unrelated axes.
Microsoft Flight Simulator Team material uses the Local Legend 26 name for the aircraft. A forum news-post title used “Local Legend 23,” but Xbox Wire, the flightsimulator.com product page and a September 2026 development update call it Local Legend 26. These instructions concern AT Simulations’ MSFS add-on, not older freeware An-28 packages for other simulators.
How do I make the An-28 rudder less sensitive?
Soften only the rudder axis first, and check that you have one yaw input—not both a twist grip and pedals, or an axis plus digital rudder commands. Several launch-week owners described the rudder and nosewheel as unusually twitchy even when pitch and roll felt acceptable.
On a twist-grip joystick, try a more negative centre curve, such as −30% to −50%, and add a small 2–5% dead zone only if the centred input drifts. If you have dedicated pedals, start milder, around −20% to −30%, because their longer travel usually needs less curve. These are general starting values, not a measured An-28 control-force specification; no published study of the aircraft’s MSFS handling qualities or official sensitivity setting was found.
After a change, check the input display while the rudder is untouched, then move the control slowly through its range. A dead zone that is too large can create a sudden jump as the input leaves the centre. Too much negative sensitivity can make the outer portion of travel feel abrupt. If the input is physically stable but the response still feels delayed, raise reactivity rather than adding still more curve; lower reactivity can add lag.
If the rudder remains twitchy, check whether rudder assistance is enabled, verify the correct profile is active, and inspect all connected devices for duplicate yaw assignments. Trim or calibration problems can also make a control feel wrong. High idle taxi speed, by contrast, is a reported flight-model concern—not something to hide with a throttle dead zone. A sensitivity curve cannot correct the aircraft’s simulated aerodynamics or ground behavior.
How should I set throttle and read the FLPI gauges?
Keep throttle input linear and use a combined axis for one lever or separate Throttle 1 and Throttle 2 axes for a dual quadrant. The FLPI markings are in degrees and are intended to move with the fuel lever positions; they are not automatically evidence of a broken throttle binding.

A forum contributor described the fuel lever position indicators as controls on Soviet turboprops that schedule both fuel supply and propeller RPM. The contributor gave 20 degrees as an example of a possible flight-idle setting. Treat that example as a community explanation, not as an official An-28 power-setting chart. A linear axis makes lever position easier to read, while an unnecessary curve or dead zone can make a displayed position harder to interpret.
If one engine’s lever behaves differently from the other, inspect the numbered axes, their direction and the active device profile before changing the aircraft’s controls. A combined Throttle Axis should not be stacked on the same levers as the two numbered axes. The simulator and aircraft have not published a dedicated An-28 binding diagram that resolves every engine-control command.
How do I trim an An-28 with no autopilot?
Bind elevator trim somewhere you can reach without releasing your main flying controls, and use small corrections to reduce sustained control pressure. The Local Legend 26 has no autopilot: MSFS Addons reported developer Andrei’s explanation that the real aircraft did not have one, so AT Simulations left it out for accuracy. Every cruise therefore remains a hand-flying exercise.
A trim hat, rotary, or throttle-quadrant trim wheel is more useful here than a control layout that leaves trim buried in a menu. An owner of a T.Flight-style HOTAS reported that its setup lacked a trim altitude-adjust dial, a limitation worth considering when choosing a profile for a no-autopilot aircraft. A quadrant with trim-wheel controls can make repeated small adjustments more accessible, though it does not guarantee every aircraft trim function will work.
Launch-week reports conflict: one owner said the aircraft trims out nicely, while another said the trim buttons moved but trim did not work. Because there is no official manual or published An-28 trim troubleshooting guide, a trim response that appears ineffective may be an aircraft bug rather than a bad sensitivity setting. First confirm the intended trim command is bound, the profile is active and no duplicate assignment is interfering; then avoid trying to cure it with a pitch curve.

Microsoft’s 2026 product information lists a 1,350-foot take-off run and a 1,033-foot landing roll; these are published aircraft figures, not a promise that every simulated loading, runway or weather combination will reproduce them. The same source lists a crew of two, capacity for up to 17 passengers or 4,000 pounds of cargo, range of 851 miles and cruise speed of 219 mph. Fine control and accessible trim matter particularly when managing the aircraft by hand, but the published figures do not establish a particular simulator control response.
How do I set up an Xbox controller, HOTAS or dual-throttle quadrant?
Use an axis-first profile on a joystick, yoke or HOTAS, and use the device’s actual control behavior rather than forcing every trigger or lever into an axis. A utility aircraft can typically be flown with an Xbox Wireless Controller, according to Xbox Advisor Aseem Kishore, but a dedicated stick or yoke can offer finer input for short-field approaches.

For a standard Xbox profile, the recommended throttle commands are A to increase and B to decrease. Do not map a spring-return trigger as an absolute throttle axis: when you release it, it returns, rather than holding a selected power setting. Gamepad thumbsticks have shorter travel, so the general starting guidance calls for more pitch and roll softening, a 5–10% dead zone and lower reactivity than on a full-size stick.
For a desktop joystick or T.Flight HOTAS, bind pitch, roll and twist yaw to axes, then use the throttle slider as a combined throttle if it is the only lever. A HOTAS with no convenient trim wheel can still fly the aircraft, but reserve accessible buttons or a hat for trim. For a yoke and throttle quadrant with two independent levers, map each lever to its own engine axis; assign pedals to Rudder Axis and separate toe brakes where available. The longer travel of a yoke and pedals usually calls for less centre softening than short thumbsticks or twist controls.
A Honeycomb Bravo owner reported that a spoiler binding did not activate on landing. That is not a reason to treat the quadrant itself as unsuitable: its independent engine levers and trim controls match the An-28’s twin-engine and hand-trim needs. It is a reason to regard spoiler functionality as unresolved rather than assume a different curve or lever assignment will fix it.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do MSFS 2020 and MSFS 2024 use the same An-28 settings?
The recommended binding logic applies to both simulator generations, but the settings screens and sensitivity display may differ. In MSFS 2020, use Options > Controls Options > Sensitivity; in MSFS 2024, use Settings > Controls and the selected device’s sensitivity or hardware settings. Create and select the profile per device in either version.
If MSFS 2024 presents a graph instead of the 2020-style percentage controls, reproduce the same curve shape: more gradual response around centre for pitch, roll and yaw, with the strongest centre softening usually needed on a gamepad or twist grip. Do not assume a percentage copied from another device has the same physical feel. Hardware travel, calibration and noise differ, so start with the suggested shape and verify input in the current profile.
The aircraft identity here is the AT Simulations Local Legend 26 add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator, sold through the in-sim Marketplace. Microsoft’s October 2026 page lists it at $14.99 USD; regional pricing may differ. No corresponding An-28 control guide for X-Plane or DCS was identified, and older FSX freeware packages are separate products rather than sources for these MSFS bindings.

There is no official An-28 control manual or published sensitivity table from Microsoft or AT Simulations, and no official binding XML or verified control preset. As of the product’s launch week in late October 2026, the aircraft was also absent from the MSFS manuals section. That means a community binding or report should be treated as a clue, not as an authoritative operating instruction.

Spoiler activation remains unresolved: owners reported that the controls could not be made to work as expected, including with a quadrant bound. A Soviet ILS/HSI autotuning feature was mentioned by the developer, but no verified explanation of how to set or bind autotune was available. Owners also asked how to use the ADF; no authoritative setting procedure was established. Do not invent a special autotune command or rely on an unverified spoiler workaround.
Other launch-week observations include high idle taxi speed, limited drag, strong climb, bouncing wheels, a mismatch between some interior and exterior RPM/throttle indications, no GPS and uncertainty about trim. These are owner reports, not certified handling data. Microsoft’s published maximum climb rate is 1,640 feet per minute. One owner referred to a Soviet-film figure of 13.5 metres per second at Vy—about 2,657 feet per minute—but that is a conflicting source and should not replace Microsoft’s published figure. A sensitivity curve cannot settle a flight-model disagreement.
Microsoft says the first clean-sheet An-28 prototype flew on 29 January 1973 and lists 191 airframes produced from 1975 through 1993. The aircraft’s history and four modeled cabin/cockpit configurations—cargo, medical evacuation, passenger and paratrooper—explain its utility-aircraft role, but do not supply missing simulator-specific control guidance.

How were these recommendations chosen?
The binding recommendations follow general MSFS analogue-axis practice and the An-28’s twin-engine, no-autopilot configuration. The sensitivity ranges are attributed to Ian Stephens of Fly Away Simulation’s 2026 guidance for different hardware classes, not presented as aircraft-specific measurements. The extra emphasis on rudder comes from repeated launch-week owner feedback that yaw and nosewheel response felt more sensitive than pitch and roll.
The article distinguishes official product specifications from community reports and unresolved launch behavior. Microsoft’s aircraft page provides published specifications and the $14.99 USD Marketplace price; the simulator’s Local Legend 26 product is the subject, rather than older freeware packages. No performance test, control-force study or official An-28 sensitivity preset supports a more exact set of percentages.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I change the An-28 cockpit labels from Russian to English?
Yes. Owners reported an ENG/RUS clickspot at the top left of the main instruments; selecting ENG changes the labels to English. It is a cockpit interaction, not a controller command to add to your axis profile.
What units does the An-28 barometer use?
The cockpit pressure setting is in millimetres of mercury rather than inches of mercury. If your weather source gives pressure in inHg, convert the value before setting the cockpit control; no special binding that changes its units is established.
Can I use a flight-stick profile from an older FSX An-28 package?
Not reliably. Older freeware An-28 packages are different aircraft implementations, and their commands or behavior do not establish the right bindings for AT Simulations’ Local Legend 26 in MSFS.
Why does my An-28 ADF needle move or flicker?
Owners asked how to set the ADF, and a launch-week forum report described the needle flickering by about 5 to 10 degrees of course. There is no verified official ADF setup procedure in the available information, so do not treat that report as proof of a particular binding or tuning fix.
