Check whether the game syncs its saves
Steam Cloud is available only for games that support it. Check the game’s Steam Store page for the Steam Cloud indicator. That indicator does not guarantee that the game synchronizes every save file or setting: developers decide which files are uploaded and how Cloud works in each title. Steam notes that many games do not use Cloud to store save games. For details about a particular campaign or save format, consult the game’s developer or community. Steam Support: Steam Cloud
Steam supports cross-platform Cloud integration, but the game must implement it. Do not assume a save will transfer between Windows, macOS, and Linux unless the game’s own information confirms that it does. Steamworks: Steam Cloud
Enable Steam Cloud synchronization
Enable Cloud both for Steam generally and for the specific game. The labels can vary slightly by Steam client version or localization.

- In the Steam client, open Settings, select Cloud, and turn on Steam Cloud synchronization.
- Open your Library, right-click the game, and choose Properties.
- On the General tab, turn on Cloud Synchronization for that game.
- Launch and play as usual. When you finish, leave Steam open and online until it reports that synchronization is complete.

Switch computers without risking a turn-based run
After a session, wait for Steam to finish syncing before closing Steam or starting the game on another device. If you played in Offline Mode, reconnect and let Cloud synchronization complete before opening the game elsewhere. If Steam shows a sync warning, do not launch the game on the other computer if preserving progress matters. Resolve the network or synchronization problem first: continuing can create a conflict or cost you progress. Steam Support: Cloud conflicts
Choose the right save when Steam reports a conflict
A conflict means local files and the Steam Cloud copy differ, often because changes were made in two places before they could synchronize. Steam displays dates and times for the available versions. Check those timestamps against when and where you last played, and select the copy that contains the intended progress. The Cloud version is not automatically the newest or the one you want. - Use your session history to identify which computer has the campaign, match, or turn you want.
- Compare that history with the timestamps shown in the conflict prompt.
- Choose the matching version, then let Steam finish synchronizing before launching the game again elsewhere.
Where to look if synchronization still fails
Steam documents these default locations for local userdata:
- Windows:
C:Program Files (x86)Steamuserdata - macOS:
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/userdata - Linux:
~/.local/share/Steam/userdata
Inside userdata, account folders contain game folders identified by app ID. Steam’s cloud_log.txt, which records files written to or retrieved from Cloud, is in the Steam logs directory; the exact install location varies. These locations can help with troubleshooting, but manually changing files is not a guaranteed way to repair a conflict. Steam Support: Cloud troubleshooting

Understand the limits of recovery
Steam Support says it has limited ability to address automated Cloud synchronization and cannot recover lost saves or resolve conflicts; lost data is unlikely to be recoverable through Support. If the older computer is still available, Steam suggests you may be able to launch the game there and let it sync. If the title does not use Steam Cloud, ask the game’s developer for help locating its save files. Steam Support: Cloud troubleshooting
