The exact steps and supported features depend on the glasses model, phone, app, and region. The Ray-Ban Meta steps below are a worked example; for another brand, follow its app’s instructions and confirm phone compatibility before granting permissions.
Check compatibility and prerequisites first
Before pairing, identify the exact glasses model and generation, your phone’s operating system, and the companion app currently offered for your market. Confirm that your specific phone is supported; a minimum operating-system version alone does not guarantee compatibility.
For Ray-Ban Meta, the official FAQ lists a smartphone, the Meta AI app, wireless internet access, a valid Meta account, and a USB-C charging plug for charging from an outlet. Its listed minimums are Android 10 with location services enabled or iOS 14.4. Check the FAQ’s supported-phone list as well. The app is called Meta AI in the current FAQ; names and availability may vary by market and installation. Ray-Ban also says AI features can vary by country, and app availability in a country does not necessarily mean the glasses are sold there.
Pair the glasses with your phone
- Charge and prepare the glasses. Ray-Ban Meta glasses charge while docked in their charging case; the case charges through USB-C. For first use, remove the plastic tab between the case and glasses, dock the glasses again, and wait for the case LED to flash blue.
- Install the companion app and sign in. Install Meta AI for Ray-Ban Meta and sign in with a valid Meta account.
- Enable Bluetooth and power on the glasses. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone. Power on the glasses and wait for their notification LED to turn solid green.
- Put the glasses into pairing mode. Follow the instructions shown in the app for your model. One documented frame procedure is to fold both arms and hold the capture button for 12 seconds, until the inside LED flashes blue. The FAQ also describes placing glasses in the case and holding the case button for at least five seconds until its blue light flashes.
- Finish pairing in the app. Continue through the app’s prompts to connect the glasses. If prompted during transfer on iPhone, accept the Join Wi-Fi Network request.
For initial setup or later manual pairing, Ray-Ban’s FAQ says the glasses may need to be in the case while you hold the case button. Pairing procedures can differ by model or software, so use the on-screen directions for the device in hand rather than combining steps from different procedures.

Enable only the notifications and readouts you want
Pairing does not necessarily enable every communication feature. On Ray-Ban Meta, open Settings > Communication in the Meta AI app, or select the device and then Communication. Connect the relevant provider and switch on the announcement or message-readout options you want. Grant the phone and app permissions requested during setup.
The Ray-Ban FAQ says incoming calls and messages from Messenger, WhatsApp, and the phone can be announced. With voice controls enabled, the glasses can announce a caller or sender and read messages aloud. Available providers and controls are model- and app-specific; review each permission before allowing access to contacts, calls, messages, or notifications.

Avoid duplicate call announcements on iPhone
Apple’s Siri call announcements and the glasses’ announcements can both play. If that results in duplicate announcements, disable one set of announcements. Ray-Ban also notes that Messenger and WhatsApp calls may sometimes be announced as iPhone calls; disabling the relevant iPhone call announcement may help. These are iPhone and Ray-Ban Meta-specific details, not general settings for every smart-glasses system.
Set up calls and check audio routing
Once communication options and requested permissions are enabled, place or receive a call to check whether audio is reaching the glasses as expected. Keep the phone nearby while using Bluetooth. If the call is announced but the audio connection is poor, first use the Bluetooth troubleshooting steps below; then check the manufacturer’s current instructions for your model and phone.

Set up media: imports and listening are different workflows
Import photos and videos
Ray-Ban Meta can capture photos and video, then import them through the Meta AI app. For imports and firmware updates, the glasses connect directly to a temporary Wi-Fi network; this is distinct from their normal app use on the phone’s Wi-Fi network. On iPhone, accept the Join Wi-Fi Network request when it appears during a transfer. In the app, select a photo or video and use the share control to save it to your phone or share it where supported.
Connect a music service and control playback
The Ray-Ban FAQ documents Amazon Music as an optional connected service. In the Meta AI app, open settings, choose Amazon Music, and connect the account. A Prime subscription is required to access Amazon Music’s library; this is not a prerequisite for pairing or basic glasses setup.

For the documented Ray-Ban Meta touchpad behavior, swipe forward to raise volume and swipe back to lower it; tap to pause or play audio. Amazon Music integration has additional playback controls. Gestures and supported services can change by generation and software, so check the controls shown in the app for your glasses.

The glasses will not connect
- Move closer to the phone and keep it in front of you or in a front pocket.
- Disconnect other Bluetooth devices temporarily.
- Check that the glasses are charged and powered on, and that Bluetooth is enabled on the phone.
- Make sure the glasses are not still paired to another phone.
- Quit and reopen the companion app. If the problem persists, unpair and pair again using the manufacturer’s instructions.
Android video calls connect poorly
For poor Android video-call connections, Ray-Ban suggests enabling the phone’s Wi-Fi and disabling VPN and hotspot. Its FAQ also documents a Pixel/Android 14 issue when sharing the glasses’ view on a call, with locking the phone suggested as a workaround. These notes are specific to the named platform and support guidance; check the current FAQ if you use different hardware or software.

Know the charging and water-resistance limits
Ray-Ban describes its glasses as IPX4 water resistant for light rain, not for submersion or extended liquid exposure. Dry the glasses and charging areas after water exposure. The glasses charge when docked in their case; charge the case through USB-C. Consult the manufacturer’s safety and warranty guidance for the exact model.
What to compare if you use another brand
Do not assume that another brand uses the same pairing gestures, apps, permissions, or audio services. Check its official documentation for these points before setup:
