There are no verified “best” in-game graphics or controller settings for Shrek 2 Remastered yet. The game is scheduled to launch on November 10, 2026, and no published source has confirmed its options menu, frame-rate modes, controller remapping, or performance. For now, the reliable choices are to target 4K only on platforms Aspyr says support it, check your PC against both published requirement sheets, and prepare a gamepad for each couch player. This guide separates confirmed details from sensible pre-launch setup advice so you can plan without mistaking guesses for tested settings.
What should you set before launch?
Until the game is available, there is no verified preset to copy. Aspyr has announced rebuilt textures, an enhanced UI, rebuilt cutscenes, and 4K resolution on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 when docked. It has not published PC graphics sliders, console graphics modes, or frame-rate targets. Steam advertises full controller support, but the remaster’s button map and controller options are not public.
- For graphics: Treat 4K as an advertised output target on the listed capable platforms, not a promise about frame rate or a console quality mode. Original Nintendo Switch is not included in Aspyr’s 4K footnote.
- For PC: Compare your hardware with both the storefront requirements reported on October 21 and Aspyr Support’s updated requirements from October 28. They conflict substantially.
- For controls: Plan to use a gamepad. The game supports up to four players in couch, online, or mixed co-op; extra controllers are a more useful preparation than guessed sensitivity settings.
- For upgrades: Do not buy a graphics card solely for this remaster before independent post-launch performance data exists. Aspyr’s later support sheet recommends much older GPUs than the original storefront list.

Aspyr’s October 20 announcement describes the visual update as: “Everything has been rebuilt with better textures, enhanced UI, 4K resolution* and cutscenes.” The asterisk limits 4K availability to PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 in docked mode. That means you should not assume 4K on the original Nintendo Switch. Aspyr has not published a native resolution for either Switch model in handheld mode, or for the original Switch while docked.
Use that claim narrowly. It confirms 4K resolution availability on named platforms; it does not establish that every platform renders natively at 4K, that every scene maintains a particular frame rate, or that the game exposes a resolution selector. The announcement also does not identify a Quality mode or Performance mode for consoles.
A secondary description from Gagadget refers to higher-resolution textures, modern lighting and shadows, 4K support, and reworked cutscenes. Aspyr’s own announcement specifically names rebuilt textures, enhanced UI, 4K, and cutscenes; it does not separately list lighting or shadows as confirmed features. Until a full options list appears, do not treat shadow quality or other specific toggles as established.

What are the best pre-launch graphics settings?
There is no verified setting combination to recommend before the options menu is known. The safest setup is to use the output your hardware and display support, then adjust only options that actually appear in the shipped game.
- Choose the platform and output deliberately. If 4K is important, Aspyr names PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 while docked. The standard Switch is not named for 4K. If you play Switch 2 handheld, its resolution is not specified in the available announcement.
- On PC, start at your display’s native resolution. This is a practical baseline, not a confirmed game-specific preset. Aspyr has named 4K as an available resolution but has not documented whether the game offers resolution scaling, exclusive fullscreen, or other display choices.
- Install a current driver for a DirectX 12-capable graphics card. Both PC specification sheets list DirectX 12. Driver updates are routine compatibility preparation; they are not evidence that the game has a particular upscaler or graphics feature.
- When the game launches, inspect the actual options menu before changing settings. If it exposes resolution, window mode, VSync, texture quality, shadows, or anti-aliasing, those are conventional controls to adjust based on your display and hardware. None of those individual options has been confirmed for this title yet.
- If texture quality is offered, stay within your GPU’s available video memory where possible. That is general PC setup guidance, not a tested recommendation for this game. The later Aspyr recommended specification lists 6–8 GB VRAM; the earlier storefront recommendation cited GPUs with 12 GB VRAM.
- Do not infer features from a blank options list. As of October 29, PCGamingWiki’s entries for FOV, windowed mode, anti-aliasing, anisotropic filtering, VSync, HDR, and 60/120-plus FPS support were unfilled. There is also no published confirmation of DLSS, FSR, XeSS, ray tracing, an FPS cap, or an uncapped mode.
Aspyr has announced Photo Mode and a Cheats Menu. Prima Games, interpreting official screenshots on October 23, reported Photo Mode controls for character visibility, poses, and expressions. Those are presentation tools, not graphics-performance settings; no published information confirms FOV, depth-of-field, or film-grain controls in Photo Mode.
Why do the Shrek 2 Remastered PC requirements disagree?
Two very different requirement sheets have been published, and the dates matter. The higher GPU list was reported from Steam and Epic around October 21, 2026; Steam subsequently removed its list after player criticism. Aspyr Support posted a lower set of requirements on October 28. Do not merge these into one supposedly settled specification.

The table below preserves each sheet separately. “Storefront” refers to the Steam/Epic listing reproduced by several outlets on October 21, not a currently confirmed Steam table. Aspyr Support is the more recent developer-published sheet in the available information.

The early storefront requirements prompted questions because the recommended GPUs were comparatively recent and expensive for a remaster of a 2004 console game. IGN summarized the recommended graphics memory as 12–16 GB. Vandal and Indies.es reported that Steam later removed the high GPU list; Epic continued to show elevated requirements, and Vandal reported an Epic recommended-RAM figure of 32 GB. That 32 GB report is not the Steam table above and does not match Aspyr Support’s 16 GB recommendation.
Aspyr’s October 28 sheet is much less demanding: it sets the minimum at a GTX 1060 or RX 570, and recommends a GTX 1070 or RX 5700 with 6–8 GB of VRAM. It also lowers the stated minimum RAM from 16 GB to 8 GB and raises storage from 12 GB to 15 GB. Those differences are too large to reconcile by assuming one is a typo or that one applies only to a particular graphics preset; no such explanation has been published.
For a current snapshot, Aspyr Support’s dated sheet is the latest developer-published information available, but the conflicting storefront history means it should not be treated as a final, unified lock. Check the live store page and Aspyr Support again near or after launch before making a purchase or hardware decision. The official Steam listing is Steam app 2523740.
The contrast with the original is striking but does not settle which sheet is correct. Tom’s Hardware Italy cited the 2004 Windows build’s requirements as 128 MB of RAM and 16 MB of video memory. The remaster is a different rebuild with updated assets and modern platform support, but an old game’s requirements cannot be used to infer the new version’s performance.
For context, How To Video Game reported an Xbox Series X|S install size of about 13.85 GB, between the two PC storage figures. Install sizes can vary by platform or update, so leave more than the listed minimum free if practical. The available information does not establish the final download size for every console or PC storefront.

Should you upgrade your GPU for Shrek 2 Remastered?
Not on the basis of the conflicting pre-launch lists alone. Aspyr Support’s later recommendation is a GTX 1070 or RX 5700, while the earlier storefront recommendation named an RTX 4070/5070 or RX 7800 XT/RX 9070. No independent benchmark or post-launch performance analysis is available, and no verified frame-rate target is published.
If your PC is close to Aspyr’s support minimum, the game may not be a comfortable fit for every resolution or graphics option—but the available facts do not support predicting an exact frame rate. If it meets the earlier storefront recommendation, that still does not establish a particular 4K result. “4K available” is not the same as “4K at a specified frame rate on every listed PC.”
Wait for the final requirements to settle and for performance information on the actual released build before buying a GPU specifically for this game. The remaster costs $29.99 at standard price, with a $26.99 pre-order price reported by Aspyr; a graphics-card purchase is a much larger decision than the game itself. PS5’s reported pre-order discount has a separate PlayStation Plus condition, but that does not change the PC graphics guidance.
What controller should you use?
A gamepad is the sensible first choice for a game built from a 2004 console co-op brawler. Aspyr describes the returning game as a button-mashing co-op adventure, and Steam lists full controller support. However, the specific controller layouts, remapping options, vibration behavior, and platform-specific features have not been published.
- PC: An Xbox Wireless Controller is a straightforward starting choice for a Windows gamepad. That is practical platform advice, not confirmation of the game’s button prompts or a tested controller profile. Keep Steam Input available as a fallback if a third-party controller needs help after launch.
- PS5: Use a DualSense as the native console controller. Adaptive triggers, haptics, and motion controls are not confirmed for this game; do not expect a particular effect merely because the controller supports it.
- Nintendo Switch and Switch 2: Joy-Con and a Switch Pro Controller are the natural platform options. For a group, have enough controllers available for the people playing.
- Keyboard and mouse: The PC input table is not populated, so published evidence does not confirm the exact keyboard support or layout. Even if keyboard and mouse are available, a gamepad better matches the original console-oriented, button-mashing design.
Do not assume that a control guide or configuration file for the old Windows game applies here. In particular, the community “Shrek 2 – Controller support patch” documented for the older 2004 PC game is not a remaster fix. There is no reason to place an old-game User.ini file in a Shrek 2 documents folder for this release.
How should you prepare controls for four-player co-op?
The practical pre-launch controller setting is to have one compatible gamepad per participant, up to four. Aspyr advertises up-to-four-player couch co-op, online co-op, and mixed play that combines local and online players. Players can swap heroes at any time; that is a gameplay feature, not a controller or graphics option.

For local play, count the controllers before inviting a group. The announcement confirms up to four couch players but does not spell out every possible controller-sharing arrangement or whether every platform’s included controller can be divided into separate players. If you want four people playing simultaneously, preparing four usable controller setups is the least ambiguous plan.
Online console play may require a platform subscription. Xbox store copy reported by How To Video Game notes a subscription requirement for online multiplayer, and Game Empress reported the same general requirement for console online play. Check the applicable platform’s current online-multiplayer terms for your account and region; local couch co-op is the alternative if you do not want an online subscription.
The game’s cross-platform co-op was reported in Xbox store copy, and PCGamingWiki lists Epic Online Services as middleware. Those details do not reveal the final matchmaking flow, invite menus, cross-play account requirements, or whether a given combination of platforms will work in every mode. Follow the in-game or store instructions once those are published rather than assuming that “online or mixed” answers every cross-play question.

Several tempting recommendations would be invented at this point. PCGamingWiki’s October 29 page was still a stub, with blank video and input tables. It does not provide usable confirmation of graphics toggles or controller behavior.
- Do not copy a fabricated graphics preset. There are no verified Low/Medium/High values, texture sliders, shadow controls, or anti-aliasing choices yet.
- Do not assume a console mode split. Aspyr has not announced a “4K Quality / 30 FPS” and “1080p Performance / 60 FPS” arrangement, or any equivalent frame-rate and resolution pairing.
- Do not assume advanced PC features. DLSS, FSR, XeSS, ray tracing, HDR certification, an FPS cap, and an uncapped option are unconfirmed.
- Do not set an invented controller deadzone or rumble level. No default deadzone, stick curve, vibration intensity, or remapping menu has been published.
- Do not promise DualSense extras. Adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and gyro support are not confirmed.
- Do not turn Photo Mode into a performance recommendation. Its reported character visibility, pose, and expression controls are for composing images, not improving frame rate.
These gaps are normal pre-launch unknowns, not proof that the finished game will lack the features. The useful distinction is between “not announced yet” and “confirmed absent.” Until launch, treat the former as uncertainty rather than a reason to invent an answer.

That distinction matters especially for a remaster: the original sold more than four million copies, but its popularity and 2004 hardware requirements say nothing conclusive about how the rebuilt version runs. Likewise, the October attention around the game—including the fact that its launch is nine days before Grand Theft Auto VI on November 19—does not validate either GPU list.
