PS5 emulation on a PC is experimental, and setup depends on the emulator. KytyPS5 documents a launcher that scans folders for games and accepts several game-file formats; SharpEmu documents launching a legally obtained game’s eboot.bin. Neither source provides a universal setup recipe or a general PS5 firmware-installation guide. Check the chosen project’s current instructions before proceeding.
Choose an emulator before preparing files
There is no single PS5 emulator setup that applies to every project. The projects below publish different host requirements and game-input instructions, so pick one first and follow its own documentation.

These are the projects’ own published requirements, not independent tests or a recommended performance tier. Neither project’s documentation establishes a minimum gaming-PC specification or guarantees a particular game will run.
Check your PC against the project’s requirements
For KytyPS5
- Confirm that your operating system matches one of the project’s listed options: Windows 10 version 1803 or later, a current Linux distribution, or experimental macOS support.
- Check that you have a 64-bit x86 processor. On macOS, KytyPS5 also lists Apple Silicon with Rosetta 2.
- Confirm your GPU supports Vulkan 1.3 and install current graphics drivers.
For SharpEmu
- Use a supported x64 host: Windows, Linux, or macOS.
- Confirm that your GPU supports Vulkan and update its graphics driver.
Do not treat KytyPS5’s Windows build prerequisites as ordinary runtime requirements. Its README lists CMake, Ninja, Visual Studio 2022 or Build Tools with Clang tools, and Qt 6 for building the Windows version; those tools are for compiling the project, not a stated requirement for simply running it. If you intend to build from source, use the current build instructions in the KytyPS5 README.

How to set up PS5 emulation on a PC
Use the steps for the project you selected. The documentation supports only the actions below; it does not establish a universal installer, menu path, or configuration sequence.
Set up KytyPS5
- Read the current KytyPS5 README and check that your operating system, processor, and GPU meet its listed requirements.
- Obtain and run the project using the distribution or build method described in its current instructions. The consulted README does not establish a single installation method that applies to every user.
- In the launcher, configure the folder or folders where your legally obtained game directories are stored. The launcher scans configured folders for game directories containing
eboot.bin. - If you are using another supported input form, provide the legally obtained game directory, ELF file, or ZArchive dump as described by the project. The README does not specify one universal file path for these inputs.
Set up SharpEmu
- Check the current SharpEmu repository instructions and confirm that your x64 operating system, Vulkan-capable GPU, and current driver meet its requirements.
- Obtain and run the project according to its current instructions. Do not assume a particular installer or settings screen; the consulted README does not establish a universal installation workflow.
- Launch the legally obtained game’s
eboot.binusing the project’s documented usage method. The README identifies this input but does not establish a universal file location or additional game-preparation steps.
Use only files you are legally entitled to use. Whether copying, decrypting, or using a particular game or firmware file is lawful depends on the jurisdiction and circumstances; these emulator pages are not legal advice.

Does PS5 emulation require firmware?
Do not assume that a PS5 firmware package is required. KytyPS5 says external low-level emulation modules are neither required nor planned. SharpEmu’s consulted README explains how to launch a game’s eboot.bin, but does not give a general firmware-installation procedure or specify a firmware package. Follow the selected project’s current documentation rather than importing steps from a different emulator.
In particular, shadPS4 identifies itself as a PS4 emulator, so its firmware instructions are not evidence of what a PS5 emulator needs. RPCSX describes itself as an experimental PS4 and PS5 emulator for Linux, but the consulted README does not establish a beginner setup, firmware workflow, or minimum PC specification.

What to expect from compatibility
KytyPS5 describes its compatibility as limited and says behavior may change between builds. SharpEmu says compatibility and performance vary by game, host operating system, and GPU driver. A project listing or a successful launch attempt is not a dependable promise that a commercial game will be playable. Check the selected project’s live status and compatibility information for the specific title before relying on it.
The cited requirements are not benchmarks: they do not show how fast a particular PC will run a game, which settings to use, or what graphics-card tier is sufficient. No specific game-performance claim follows from the published Vulkan requirements alone.
