Depending on the options shown on your device, you can require a PIN to watch restricted-category videos, make purchases, or open apps. For a child-focused experience, create an Amazon Kids profile on a compatible device; manage Prime Video account restrictions separately if you need those too.
Choose the control layer that fits your need
Fire TV offers separate controls for device actions and for a child’s profile. Prime Video also has account-level restrictions. These layers can be used together, but no single one should be assumed to cover every app, service, or device function.

How do I set parental controls on my Fire TV or Firestick?
- From the Fire TV menu, open Settings > Preferences > Parental Controls.
- Select the Parental Controls option and enter the PIN to activate or deactivate the feature.
- Choose which of the options displayed on your device should require the PIN.
Amazon says the available selections can protect restricted-category videos, purchases, or app access. The exact options may differ by device, so follow the choices shown on your screen rather than expecting every model to present the same list. Amazon’s instructions do not establish a universal PIN length or default PIN.
On Echo Show devices that support Fire TV, Amazon places Fire TV settings within Echo Show settings. Fire TV parental controls and Echo Show device settings govern different functions, so changing one does not replace configuring the other. See Amazon’s Set Parental Controls on Fire TV instructions.

What is Amazon Kids on Fire TV Devices?
Amazon Kids on Fire TV provides a child profile where a parent can choose shared apps and content, set age limits, and use a Child PIN to keep the child in that profile. It is distinct from the general Fire TV Parental Controls menu: use device-level controls for selected device actions and a Kids profile for a child-oriented profile experience.
Create a Kids profile
- Open Settings > Accounts & Profile Settings > Add Profile > Create a New Profile.
- Mark the profile as a Kids profile, then choose a name, birthdate, and icon.
- Add a Child PIN and choose which content to share.
Amazon says kid-friendly content and apps owned by the account are selected automatically, as is eligible kid-friendly Prime content for Prime members. A prompt to subscribe to Amazon Kids+ may appear, but the basic child profile can be created without subscribing. Amazon describes child-profile creation as having no additional cost on compatible devices; Kids+ is an optional subscription for premium kid-friendly content. Check device compatibility and profile limits
Amazon says a Fire TV can have six profiles total, with up to four Amazon Kids profiles. Kids profiles are unavailable on Fire TV Cube devices and some smart TVs with Fire TV built in, so check your specific model. A Kids profile also does not support Fire TV settings or switching HDMI inputs; use an adult profile for those tasks.
Manage a child profile with Parent Dashboard
For customers with at least one child profile, Amazon’s Parent Dashboard is available in a web browser or mobile app. Amazon lists tools such as screen-time limits, device access, age and language filters, content management, activity monitoring, weekday and weekend access controls, educational goals, and controls for store or in-app purchases and browsing. The features differ between the mobile app and browser, and Amazon cautions that Kids features vary by device and are available only in select marketplaces.

Amazon Kids’ broader feature list is not a guarantee that every feature works on Fire TV. Check the dashboard and device options available to your account. Amazon’s help page, Manage Your Child’s Amazon Kids+ experience via Parent Dashboard, explains dashboard controls. A mobile app is available for customers who want to use the app interface; Amazon also provides dashboard access in a browser.
How Fire TV controls differ from Prime Video restrictions
Fire TV Parental Controls are managed directly on the device. Prime Video restrictions are managed for the Prime Video account and govern videos viewed or purchased through that service. Amazon’s Prime Video help says account PINs can be used to gate purchases or subscriptions and bypass viewing restrictions.

- Getting set up is easy – Plug in and connect to Wi-Fi for smooth streaming.
Settings are platform-specific: Amazon’s iOS setup guidance says viewing restrictions apply to the device or devices selected during setup, while purchase restrictions apply to all profiles on the account. Do not apply those iOS details as universal app navigation or assume the same scope for every platform. Reset a Fire TV Child PIN
- On the Fire TV prompt, enter a PIN attempt. If it is incorrect, a reset code appears below the prompt.
- Sign in at amazon.com/code.
- Enter the code displayed on the Fire TV and follow the on-screen instructions.
These are Amazon’s instructions for a forgotten Fire TV Child PIN. They should not be treated as a reset method for every PIN used by Fire TV or Prime Video. See Amazon’s Reset Your Child PIN on Your Fire TV Device.

Other parental-controls PINs
Amazon’s Parent Dashboard help describes a separate recovery route for a forgotten parental-controls PIN: deregister and then reregister the device through Manage Your Content and Devices. Because this differs from Child PIN recovery, identify which PIN prompt you are dealing with before following a reset procedure. Prime Video PIN and restriction settings are managed separately in the Prime Video account.
