To save a two-app split-screen setup, open both apps in split screen, tap the divider, tap the star-shaped app-pair icon, then choose where to save it: the Taskbar, Home screen, or Apps edge panel. Tap the saved pair later to launch both apps together. Menu labels and available controls vary by Fold model and software version.
Save a two-app pair

Open the first app, then start split screen. One route is Recents: tap the first app’s icon and choose Open in split screen view. On supported models, you can also drag an app from the Taskbar or Multi window tray into a screen position. See Samsung’s Multi window and App pairs instructions and its Taskbar guide.

Tap the center of the divider, then tap the star-shaped app-pair icon. Select Taskbar, Home screen, or Apps edge panel to choose where to save the pair.

Tap the pair’s icon in its saved location whenever you want to open both apps together.
Samsung also documents creating a pair by dragging two apps from the Taskbar into opposite sides of the display, tapping between the windows, then tapping the star and choosing Taskbar. The Taskbar and divider controls may look different on other Fold generations.

Choose a multitasking method

Samsung’s Z Fold8 Ultra guide describes the Recents route for split screen and pop-up view. Samsung’s Z Fold4 guide describes opening the Multi window tray by swiping left on its handle at the right side of the screen, then dragging apps into position. Tray behavior and menu names can differ on newer models.
Enable swipe shortcuts, if available
Samsung documents swipe shortcuts for Galaxy devices running One UI 6 or later. Enable them under Settings > Advanced features > Multi window. With the relevant options enabled, a two-finger swipe up from the bottom opens split screen, while a one-finger swipe inward from either top corner opens pop-up view. The gestures and setting names may not appear on every Fold.

Check app and feature compatibility
Not every app supports split screen or pop-up view. If an app is missing from the app picker or will not open in a layout, try another app or check whether your phone offers relevant options under Settings > Advanced features > Labs. Samsung describes Labs capabilities as experimental and warns that they may not work as expected; enabling them does not guarantee that an unsupported app will work. See Samsung’s Labs guidance.
Samsung’s instructions cover different Fold generations, including the Z Fold4 and Z Fold8 Ultra. If a named control is absent on your phone, use the equivalent Recents, Taskbar, or Multi window control shown on your model. Samsung also notes that Multi window support varies by app and model in its foldable-phone guidance.
