The right setup depends on the question you need to answer and the permissions your administrators have.
Choose the reporting surface for the question

Set up adoption and engagement analytics
App Analytics is the starting point for understanding adoption, usage and quality, agent activity, value, and user-level interactions. It requires a data store connected to the app; metrics are available only from the time the data store is linked. Google Cloud says analytics metrics refresh about every six hours, so the page may not be usable immediately after creating an app.
- In Google Cloud Console, open the Gemini Enterprise page and select the app.
- Open Analytics, choose the relevant tab, set any available filters, and refresh the page.
- Use the tabs that match your question: Adoption, Usage and Quality, Agent, Value, or User Level.
User Level can show user identifiers and interactions, but requires allowlisting. Search analytics availability also varies: Google documents public preview for apps in US and EU multi-regions and general availability for global apps. If multiple data stores are connected and you need results across them, Google recommends calling the app through the engine resource. See Google Cloud’s analytics instructions.
Check feature usage and quotas
Use Usage & Spending to see consumption or quota information for the applicable Gemini Enterprise edition. Open Gemini Enterprise > Usage & Spending, select the location of the licenses or subscription, and choose the subscription tier under Usage details.

- License-based editions: Standard, Plus, and Standard Emerging Market use pooled quotas. Frontline is also identified as an eligible active subscription for dashboard access.
For licensed editions, quotas are pooled across project users. Except for storage and indexing, the documented pooled quotas reset daily at midnight Pacific Time. AI developer tools have a seven-day cycle starting when the first prompt or request is sent. These cycles affect how a usage figure should be interpreted.
Permissions can make a valid dashboard appear empty or incomplete. To see quota usage, the viewer needs monitoring.timeSeries.list; without it, usage can display as zero. To see quota limits, the viewer needs serviceconsumermanagement.quota.get; without it, the limit can display as unknown. The Gemini Enterprise Administrator role (roles/discoveryengine.agentspaceAdmin) includes the usage permission by default. Consult Google Cloud’s Usage & Spending instructions when assigning access.

Configure operational metrics with Cloud Monitoring
Cloud Monitoring is for operational questions such as request volume, latency, agent sessions, and tool calls. Setup differs by agent type, and agent-scoped metrics require OpenTelemetry instrumentation.
Enable instrumentation for agent metrics
- For the Core Assistant, open the app’s Configurations > Observability settings.
- For supported Workflow Builder employee-made agents and Deep Research agents, open Agents, select the agent, then open Configuration.
- Enable Instrumentation of OpenTelemetry traces and logs to access traces, spans, span logs, and associated metrics.
App-scoped Engine metrics are collected without that setting. Examples include Engine request count—with API method, response code, query type, and model breakdowns—and end-to-end request latency. Agent metrics include sessions, conversational turns, tool invocation counts, and latency.

View metrics
Open Cloud Monitoring’s Metrics Explorer. You need Monitoring Viewer (roles/monitoring.viewer) and an existing app. Gemini Enterprise metrics use the discoveryengine.googleapis.com/ prefix. In the cited Google Cloud documentation, this metric prefix belongs to the “all other Google Cloud metrics” tier, with six-week default retention. Availability and retention are product details that can change; see Google Cloud’s monitoring documentation.
Set up audit history in Cloud Logging
Cloud Logging is separate from Analytics and Monitoring: use it to inspect recorded user activity and generative AI events. Before configuring audit logs, turn on observability, ensure an app exists, and have Gemini Enterprise Admin (roles/discoveryengine.agentspaceAdmin) to enable audit logging. Logs Viewer (roles/logging.viewer) is required to view logs.

- In Cloud Logging, open Logs Explorer and select the project where logging is enabled.

Prompt and response content is included only if Enable logging of prompt inputs and response outputs is on. When it is off, text values are replaced with <elided> and other sensitive values are omitted. Enabling content logging first requires OpenTelemetry instrumentation and can capture personally identifiable information (PII). Make an explicit policy decision before turning it on, and restrict log access to authorized staff. Setup details are in Google Cloud’s observability documentation and audit logging instructions.
Review costs and subscription charges
The Billing tab under Gemini Enterprise > Usage & Spending summarizes overage and Pay-as-you-go usage costs across enabled features and tools for the last 30 days. It does not include license-based Gemini Enterprise subscription costs.

Cost visibility requires Gemini Enterprise Administrator on the project, Billing Account Viewer or Billing Account Administrator on the target billing account, and the relevant monitoring and quota permissions. For SKU-level detail, open the linked Cloud Billing account’s Reports page and select the Gemini Enterprise costs by SKU preset, or filter for all Gemini Enterprise originating products and group by SKU. This separates subscription SKUs from overage SKUs.
To produce a summary closer to the in-product Billing tab, filter for the same originating products and group by Originating Product, then select Charge period and Last 30 days. Google says Cloud Billing Reports require full billing-account permissions. See Google Cloud’s cost reporting instructions.

Keep the reports interpretable
- Document which surface answers each internal question; analytics, quota dashboards, telemetry, logs, and billing data are not interchangeable.
- When a usage value is zero or a quota limit is unknown, verify the viewer’s permissions before treating it as a real consumption result.
- Limit user-level analytics and sensitive log content to staff with a business need, and set access controls appropriate to your organization’s data policies.
- Check current Google Cloud documentation for console labels, role requirements, regional availability, edition behavior, quota schedules, and retention before applying the setup, since these product details can change.
