You don’t download a standalone Discord app on Xbox. Instead, link your Discord and Xbox accounts, then join Discord voice chat from the Xbox guide. You can also transfer a voice chat from Discord on your phone or computer; that route requires the Xbox mobile app on a phone or tablet.
Link your Discord and Xbox accounts
You can begin on the console or in Discord. Use whichever device is convenient; both methods connect the Discord account to the Microsoft account associated with your Xbox profile. Discord’s connection FAQ, updated May 27, 2026, says one Discord account can be linked to one Xbox account at a time.
Link from your Xbox console
- Sign in to the Xbox account you want to connect.
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Go to Profile & System > Settings > Account > Linked social accounts.
- Under Not Linked, select the Discord tile, choose Link, and follow the on-screen prompts.
Link from Discord on desktop or mobile
- In Discord, open User Settings > Connections.
- Select the Xbox icon and continue through the authorization flow.
- Sign in with the Microsoft account connected to the Xbox profile you want to link, then authorize the connection.
If your Discord account is already linked to a different Xbox account, remove that connection before linking another. If you linked the accounts before Discord Voice was available on Xbox and voice features do not work, unlink and authorize the connection again.
Join Discord voice chat on Xbox
Once the accounts are linked, you can join a server voice channel directly from the console:

- Sign in to the linked Xbox account.
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Select Parties & chats > Discord Voice.
- Choose a server and voice channel.
Transfer a voice chat from Discord mobile
- On your phone or tablet, join the voice channel in Discord.
- Open the channel’s audio controls and choose Join on Xbox.
- Select your console in the Xbox mobile app and transfer the audio.
This transfer method requires the Xbox mobile app on your phone or tablet.
Transfer a voice chat from Discord desktop
- Join a voice channel in Discord on desktop.
- Choose Transfer Voice to Xbox.
- Scan the displayed QR code with a mobile device and complete the transfer in the Discord mobile app.
For this desktop transfer, Discord says both the Xbox and Discord mobile apps should be installed.

Optional: stream a game to your Discord channel
After linking accounts and joining a Discord voice channel on Xbox, open the Xbox guide’s Discord menu. Select the server and channel, choose Stream your game, set any available options, and start streaming. Discord lists game streaming support for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One.
- If you switch to another app or close the game, the stream pauses, but you remain in the voice channel.
- Discord says 60 FPS streaming is unavailable on Xbox One.
Watch someone else’s Discord stream on Xbox
In the active call, open the member list, select the person who is streaming, then choose Watch Stream. Discord lists 480p, 720p, 1080p, and 1440p as supported viewing resolutions.

Fix common Discord-on-Xbox problems
Voice chat or transfer does not work
- Update the console: Discord says Xbox must be on the latest version to use Discord Voice. Its FAQ also associates an outdated console with a transfer error.
- Check privacy settings: Xbox settings may block communication outside Xbox. Discord identifies Allow for cross-network play and Everybody for voice and text communication outside Xbox.
- Check the account connection: Confirm that the Discord account is linked to the Xbox account you are using. If an older connection does not enable voice features, unlink and connect the accounts again.
You cannot use Xbox Party Chat at the same time
Discord’s FAQ says you cannot remain in Xbox Party Chat while using the described transferred Discord voice chat or streaming from the console.
Audio transfer or livestream still has an issue
Discord directs users to Xbox support for more detailed audio-transfer and livestream troubleshooting. The Discord FAQ does not establish minimum network bandwidth, region availability, or compatibility for every account configuration, so those details should not be assumed from the setup steps alone.
