To set up the Sony Xperia 10 VIII, identify your model, start it with a physical SIM or configure an eSIM, charge it if needed, then check for software updates and personalize the Home screen and accessibility settings. Sony’s model-specific Xperia 10 VIII Help Guide covers models XQ-GH54 and XQ-GH74 and provides the exact steps and illustrations. Menus and service availability can differ by software version, country, carrier, and model variant.
1. Confirm your model and open the right guide
Before following network or setup instructions, check that your phone is an Xperia 10 VIII and note its model code. Sony’s model-specific Help Guide is for XQ-GH54 and XQ-GH74. On the phone, Sony’s general support instructions say to look under Settings → About phone; another support route is Settings → Support → Device overview → Model. Labels can vary by software version.
Sony’s Xperia 10 VIII support page lists an English Web manual and Reference Guide, both dated 27 August 2026. Use the Help Guide for topic-specific instructions and illustrations, and make sure the steps suit your regional model and carrier.
2. Choose a SIM setup route
Sony documents two ways to get started with cellular service: insert a physical SIM and turn on the phone, or turn on the phone and configure an eSIM. The Help Guide has separate topics for inserting a SIM card and microSD card and configuring an eSIM. Follow those model-specific instructions rather than guessing how to open the tray or enter activation details.

| Setup route | What it involves | Check before you begin |
|---|---|---|
| Physical SIM | Insert the SIM card, then power on the phone. | Confirm your model’s tray instructions and whether you also plan to install a microSD card. |
| eSIM | Power on the phone and follow the eSIM configuration instructions. | Confirm that your carrier and regional model support the eSIM service you intend to use. |
Sony lists both startup routes, but that does not mean every carrier offers eSIM for every Xperia 10 VIII variant. Availability depends on carrier and region; check with your carrier if you are unsure.
3. Charge the phone if needed
Sony says the battery may not have sufficient charge when you buy the phone, and a charger is not included in the package. If you need to charge it, Sony says most USB power adapters and a USB Type-C cable can power the device; the guidance does not establish a particular third-party adapter as required or preferred. See Sony’s charging instructions.

4. Check Android version and software updates
Checking the installed Android version helps you choose instructions that match your phone. Sony’s general support page gives this path: Settings → About phone → Android version. Its general Xperia update guidance recommends checking for an update over Wi-Fi; if an update notification does not appear, Sony advises ensuring the phone is charged and freeing internal storage. Exact menu paths can vary with the installed software and device configuration.

5. Set up the Home screen and quick access
Personalize the Home screen
The Xperia 10 VIII Help Guide links to a Home screen topic with device-specific instructions. Use that topic for the exact controls available on your model and software version instead of assuming a menu path from another Xperia generation.
Try Rewards & Pay
Sony describes Rewards & Pay as a shortcut to frequently used payment and rewards apps. It opens with a quick double press of the power button. Which payment or loyalty services work depends on the region and service, so the shortcut does not guarantee support for a particular wallet, card, or rewards program. Sony introduced the feature in its Xperia 10 VIII announcement.

6. Adjust display, navigation, and accessibility
For easier reading, visibility, or operation, open Settings → Accessibility and look for the options available on your phone. Sony’s Android 16 Xperia accessibility guidance lists settings such as TalkBack, font size, display size, bold text, color adjustments, dark theme, magnification, navigation mode, one-hand mode, vibration, and haptics. Some features may require an app, and availability varies by device and Android version.
- Reading and visibility: Look for font size, display size, bold text, color adjustments, and dark theme.
- Magnification and screen reading: Check for magnification and TalkBack if you need help seeing or hearing on-screen content.
- Controls and comfort: Look for navigation mode, one-hand mode, vibration, and haptics.
Sony’s Android 16 accessibility reference and Android 11–14 reference describe options across Xperia devices; older menu wording does not guarantee the same path on this phone. Use the settings actually shown on your Xperia 10 VIII.
