To set up a Hall-effect keyboard, use the calibration instructions and software for your exact model, then adjust actuation and—if supported—Rapid Trigger to suit how you type or play. There is no universal calibration routine: NuPhy uses an in-software recalibration, SteelSeries documents a hardware shortcut for supported keyboards, and Wooting describes calibration during power-up.
Before you start: identify your keyboard and software
Hall-effect switches use magnets and sensors to detect key position through the switch’s travel. That lets compatible keyboards set the point at which a key activates and, on some models, adjust how it resets as the key moves. It does not mean every magnetic-switch keyboard has the same calibration process or controls.
Find the exact keyboard model, installed switch type, configuration utility, and firmware version. Use the manufacturer’s current instructions for that combination; names such as “actuation,” “dead zone,” and “Rapid Trigger” can have different settings or behavior across brands. Firmware and utility requirements may change.
Calibrate the switches using the model-specific procedure
Calibration helps the keyboard interpret each switch’s position. Follow the procedure for your board rather than combining steps from different brands.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
NuPhy: recalibrate in NuPhy IO
- Place the keyboard horizontally on a level surface; NuPhy recommends a non-metallic surface.
- In NuPhy IO, choose Recalibrate.
- Press keys fully down and hold each for at least three seconds. You can press multiple keys together.
- Repeat as needed until every on-screen key turns green, then exit recalibration.
NuPhy recommends recalibration after magnetic-keyboard firmware updates and after abnormal events such as a disconnection or accidental contact. Its manual also cautions that the browser-based key-depth display is a rough reference, not a precise measurement of actual travel. NuPhy IO manual
SteelSeries: enter calibration mode with a shortcut
For the supported SteelSeries models covered by its instructions, calibration after switch installation requires GG 30.0 or later and the latest keyboard firmware. Hold SS Key + I/O while plugging in the keyboard. Yellow lighting indicates calibration mode. Press each key; it turns white when calibrated. When all keys are calibrated, the shortcut flashes red; press it to exit. Confirm that the current support instructions apply to your exact model before using this procedure. Wooting: keep keys untouched during power-up calibration
Wooting describes calibration at power-up: the keyboard records each switch’s analog position as its resting position. A key being pressed or a nearby magnetic source can interfere with startup calibration. Keep the board and keys undisturbed as it powers on, and avoid placing it near magnetic sources during the process. Wooting troubleshooting guidance

Set the actuation point
The actuation point is the travel threshold at which a key registers as pressed. A lower threshold makes the key more sensitive; a higher one requires more travel before activation. The right balance depends on your preference and how reliably you can avoid unintended presses.
Wooting: adjust globally or per key
In Wootility, choose a profile, open Performance, and set the actuation point globally or for individual keys. Wooting’s support article says there is no single best value; start with a setting that does not trigger accidental presses, then make small adjustments. Wooting actuation-point instructions
NuPhy: use dead zones to constrain the activation region
NuPhy IO provides an actuation point plus initial and bottom dead zones. These controls can constrain the usable activation travel and help reduce accidental, disconnected, or missed-trigger behavior. Consult the NuPhy IO manual for the definitions and controls on your model rather than assuming another brand uses the same terms. NuPhy IO manual

Decide whether to enable Rapid Trigger
Actuation and Rapid Trigger are related but distinct. Actuation sets when a press first registers. Rapid Trigger changes reset and re-press behavior according to key movement, so a key can reset or activate again without waiting for a fixed return point. It is useful only on models that support it, and its controls are not standardized.
Wooting: tune sensitivity and choose where it applies
Wooting’s Rapid Trigger controls are in a profile’s Performance tab. Its guide explains that the actuation threshold affects where Rapid Trigger becomes active unless continuous mode is used. Higher sensitivity requires less release travel before reset. Supported devices offer separate upstroke/downstroke and continuous-mode options; per-key controls let you limit the feature to selected keys, such as movement keys. Check the guide’s current supported-model list: it says per-key Rapid Trigger is not available on the discontinued Flaretech One and Two models. Wooting Rapid Trigger guide
NuPhy: set press and release distances
NuPhy IO distinguishes release/deactivate distance from press/activate distance, described in its manual relative to the key’s current position. Continuous Rapid Trigger stays active until full release; without it, the feature operates only in the documented actuation range. These are NuPhy’s definitions and should not be applied to another manufacturer’s controls without checking that board’s manual. NuPhy IO manual

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
If you are unsure where to begin, leave Rapid Trigger off while confirming ordinary key registration. Then enable it, if supported, and adjust sensitivity gradually. Test for unwanted inputs after each change; this is a cautious tuning approach, not a manufacturer-prescribed numeric setting.
Test the keyboard after calibration and tuning
- Use the manufacturer’s input display or a key tester to check that each key registers. NuPhy’s browser depth display is only a rough reference; Wooting’s Analog Monitor reports the switch position detected by the keyboard.
- Type or play using your usual movements. Watch for keys that trigger before you intend, fail to reset, or do not register.
- Change one setting at a time so you can identify whether actuation, a dead zone, or Rapid Trigger caused a problem.
If one key does not register
A missed key can result from calibration, a setting, a binding or lock, or a hardware or sensor issue. For Wooting, the manufacturer’s suggested check for possible startup interference is to disconnect the board, raise it, reconnect it while raised, wait three seconds, and test again. This is Wooting-specific guidance, not a universal recovery procedure. Wooting troubleshooting guidance
Use the keyboard’s analog or input monitor if available. If it shows switch movement, check the key binding and any lock behavior in the relevant software. If the monitor does not detect movement or the problem persists, contact the keyboard manufacturer rather than assuming a setting will fix a sensor fault.

After replacing switches or updating firmware
Replacing a switch body
Compatibility is model-specific; a magnetic switch should not be assumed to work in every Hall-effect keyboard. NuPhy says to disconnect power before replacing a switch body, then select the affected keys in NuPhy IO and choose Replace Switch Body. If the exact replacement is not listed, NuPhy advises choosing a similar magnetic-flux/adjustable-travel switch option for stability. That guidance is not blanket approval for arbitrary cross-brand switches. NuPhy IO manual
Wooting announced that Wootility v5.3.0 added a Switch Selector to optimize calibration, performance, and analog accuracy for selected switches. Its April 22, 2026 release announcement listed 28 switch types at release, including Wooting and third-party brands; it also described spacer selection and said O-ring support was still in beta. Treat those as release-date details, not a complete current compatibility list. Check the selector and supported switches for your board and software version. Wootility v5.3.0 release announcement
Updating firmware
NuPhy recommends recalibrating after magnetic-keyboard firmware updates. For other brands, check the update notes and the instructions for your model; do not assume an update always requires—or never requires—recalibration.
