Connect your console or PC to the TV by HDMI, switch to that HDMI input, then open LG’s Game Optimizer and enable the gaming features supported by both devices. Exact menus and capabilities vary by LG OLED model and webOS version, so use the paths below as model-specific guidance rather than universal instructions.
Connect your gaming device and select its input
- Connect the console or PC to an HDMI port on the LG OLED TV.
- Use the TV’s input selector to switch to the HDMI port you connected. LG’s Game Optimizer setup guidance expects the external input to be set to the console. LG Support
Turn on Game Optimizer
Game Optimizer is LG’s central menu for gaming settings. On LG’s documented 2021 webOS 6.0 interface, the path is All Settings → General → Game Optimizer. On the older webOS 5.0 interface, LG’s guidance instead uses All Settings → Picture → Additional Settings → Instant Game Response. Menu names and locations depend on your TV model and software generation, so look up the instructions for your exact model if these paths do not match. LG Support
Check HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color when applicable
LG’s cited setup instructions call for enabling HDMI Ultra HD Deep Color on the HDMI port connected to the game device when that setting is available on the TV. LG notes that this setting enables Game Optimizer in that described setup. It is a per-port option, and the instruction may differ by model; follow your TV’s model-specific guidance. LG Support
Enable low-latency and variable-refresh features if supported
ALLM: automatic low-latency mode
On supported TVs, enable ALLM in Game Optimizer if you want the TV to switch automatically to a low-latency mode when a compatible device requests it. LG notes that some picture controls may be unavailable while ALLM is active. If the console’s ALLM behavior prevents a TV adjustment you want to make, check the console’s instructions; LG cites the PS5’s ALLM setting as an example. LG Support

VRR or G-Sync with a compatible PC
For a compatible PC graphics card and TV, LG documents this path on webOS 22: All Settings → General → Game Optimizer → Game → VRR & G-Sync → On. The TV must be connected to the PC by HDMI, and Screen Mode must be set to Game Optimizer. Availability depends on both the TV and graphics card. LG Support
If the TV does not recognize the device as a game source
Some connected devices or HDMI inputs may not be automatically identified as gaming sources. If Game Optimizer or Game Dashboard does not appear automatically, open the relevant menu manually if your model supports it. Confirm your TV and source support the performance you want
Do not assume every LG OLED supports the same resolution, refresh rate, VRR options, or number of capable HDMI inputs. Check the specifications for your exact TV model and gaming device before expecting 4K at 120 Hz or a particular VRR feature or range. LG’s 2024 G4 specification, for example, lists 4K 120 fps support and Dolby Vision for gaming at 4K 120Hz for that model family; those specifications are not a claim about every LG OLED. The HDMI cable must also be suitable for the resolution and refresh rate you intend to use. Check the specifications of both the TV and source device when choosing a cable; the required capability depends on your setup.
