Use Playwright to open the retailer in a browser configured for an India-oriented locale, capture the rendered page, and then verify that the page itself displays ₹ or INR. Setting the locale to en-IN can influence browser behavior and formatting; it does not force a retailer to show rupees. The retailer’s region, account, and page settings may also determine its currency.
Set up a browser capture with Playwright
Playwright is a practical choice for ordinary ecommerce pages: it can navigate to a URL, capture the viewport or full page, and save an element or image bytes. Use the browser’s DOM or accessibility information to find and interact with controls; a screenshot is visual evidence, not a dependable map of clickable elements. Playwright’s screenshot documentation makes the same distinction.
Install Playwright
For Python, install the package and a browser:

python -m playwright install chromiumConfigure the context before visiting the retailer
Set the locale and viewport when creating the browser context, before navigating. The example uses en-IN and a desktop-sized viewport; change the viewport if you need to represent a mobile browser. Playwright also supports device profiles and other context settings such as timezone. These affect browser context, not the retailer’s currency policy. See Playwright’s emulation documentation.

Replace the example URL with the target page you are permitted to access. The script waits for the DOM to be ready, captures the full scrollable page, and checks the rendered text for the rupee symbol or currency code. This text check is a useful signal, not proof that every price on the page is in INR; inspect the screenshot and, where possible, check the specific price element through the DOM.

A consent prompt, region selector, delayed product content, or access restriction may require additional handling. Do not assume that a successful navigation means the page has loaded prices or selected India.
Choose the capture scope you need

Playwright documents these options in its Python screenshot guide. Full-page capture can include content that appears only after scrolling or loading; check that important lazy-loaded images and prices actually rendered before treating the image as complete.
Make sure the retailer actually displayed rupees
A browser locale and a displayed currency are different things. en-IN is a reasonable locale for India-oriented browser behavior and number formatting, but it does not instruct Amazon India, Flipkart, or another retailer to choose INR. The retailer’s own region selection, account state, and page behavior may control that choice; the reviewed technical documentation does not establish the currency rules for individual stores.

- Inspect the screenshot for
₹or an explicitINRlabel next to the relevant price. - Check the actual price element in the page DOM as a separate verification. A marker elsewhere on the page may refer to another amount or currency.
- If the page offers a region or currency selector, use the retailer’s control and recapture; do not infer a successful selection from the browser locale alone.
- Do not convert a price yourself and present the result as a price the retailer displayed.
Formatting amounts in an application you control
If your own agent or application formats an amount, JavaScript’s Intl.NumberFormat accepts locale and currency as separate inputs. India’s en-IN conventions use lakh/crore grouping; choosing INR requires the explicit currency code. This formats an amount you supply—it does not change another site’s price display. See MDN’s Intl.NumberFormat reference.

For an ordinary web page, a Playwright page screenshot is usually the relevant capture. A managed browser with OS-level actions is a separate option when evidence must include native dialogs, prompts, or desktop UI beyond the browser page. AWS documents AgentCore Browser’s WebSocket/CDP route for browser control and a separate InvokeBrowser API for OS-level interaction and full-desktop screenshots. See the AgentCore Browser documentation and AgentCore browser tool documentation. This adds managed-service setup and is not necessary for a standard webpage capture.
Troubleshoot common capture problems
The screenshot has no prices or is mostly blank
domcontentloaded only indicates that the initial document has been parsed; the retailer may load product data later. Wait for a known price or product selector, or use an appropriate delay after navigation, then capture. If the content is gated by a region or consent prompt, handle the retailer’s visible controls before relying on the image.

The page shows another currency
Changing locale alone is not a currency selector. Look for the retailer’s own region or currency setting, confirm the resulting price on the page, and capture again. The technical sources do not document store-specific currency-selection rules.

The symbol may be rendered in an image, split across elements, or omitted from body text. Treat the script’s text search as a signal only: inspect the image and read the relevant price element separately where feasible.
A full-page image is missing content
Some pages load images or product rows as they enter the viewport. Scroll through the page or wait for the relevant content before taking the full-page screenshot, then confirm that the final image contains the expected sections.

A consent prompt or native dialog blocks the page
For web-page controls, use a locator or browser snapshot to identify the control and interact with it; do not try to infer click coordinates from a screenshot alone. If the evidence must include native operating-system UI that browser-page capture cannot represent, consider the managed browser and OS-level route described above.

Practical reliability and cost considerations
With a self-hosted Playwright script, you manage browser installation, runtime, waiting conditions, and storage for the images. The technical documentation cited here does not establish a cost or performance comparison between Playwright and managed browser services. Choose based on the capture scope you need, whether the task involves native OS UI, and where you can run and maintain the browser.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does setting Playwright’s locale to en-IN guarantee that an ecommerce page uses rupees?
No. It sets browser locale context; the retailer may determine currency through its own region, account, or page settings.
Can I use a screenshot to identify which button the agent should click?
Use a browser snapshot, DOM, or locator to identify and interact with controls. A screenshot is primarily a visual record.
