To catch airfare changes, search your route and dates in a flight-search service, turn on its price-tracking alert, and confirm the alert was saved. When a notification arrives, check the live itinerary and total fare before booking: an alert reports a price change, not a guaranteed ticket price.
Choose what you want the alert to track
If your travel dates are fixed, search those exact dates and track the flight or itinerary that suits you. If your dates are flexible, use route tracking where the service offers it, then compare the available date options separately. The tracking scope differs by service: Google Flights describes tracking specific flights, routes, and dates; KAYAK and Skyscanner provide controls from flight-search results.
Set up an alert in a flight-search service
Google Flights
- Search for your route and, if your dates are fixed, enter those dates.
- Use Google Flights’ price-tracking option for a specific flight, route, or dates.
- Check that tracking is active for the selection you intended. Google says significant price changes may prompt email updates; it may also send regular updates with the best available prices when there is no large enough drop. See Google Flights help.
KAYAK
- Sign in to KAYAK and search for flights.
- On the flight-results page, turn on “Track prices” at the upper left.
- Confirm or manage saved alerts in your account or on KAYAK’s alerts page.
KAYAK describes daily updates and real-time updates for significant changes. Its help page says a significant change is typically a 10% increase or drop since the previous update; that is KAYAK’s description, not a threshold shared by all airfare alerts. Alerts expire after the travel date and may also expire if you do not open or engage with alert emails.
Skyscanner
- Sign in to Skyscanner; its help page says you must be logged in to create an email alert.
- Search your route and date. On desktop, select “Track prices” or “Get Price Alerts.” On mobile web or in the app, save a flight or use the alert control shown with your results.
- Check that the alert appears in your account profile. You can remove it there or from an alert email.
Skyscanner’s instructions were updated March 20, 2026. Labels and placements may vary across interfaces; see its price-alert setup help.

Check the fare when an alert arrives
Open the same itinerary in the search service, then verify it with the airline or booking provider before purchasing. Match the travel dates, airports, flight times, passenger count, and any stops. Review the fare conditions and the total price, including any applicable fees or charges, rather than relying only on the number in an email.
Prices can change between an alert being sent and your visit to the booking page. Skyscanner says its alert email is a guide based on a single-adult price snapshot on the day it is sent; the fare may no longer be available at that price—or at all—when you check. Its prices help page explains this limitation.

What alerts can—and cannot—tell you
- An alert can help you notice a change in the prices a service is tracking, but notification timing and tracking scope vary.
- Google says significant changes may trigger email updates and that regular updates may still arrive when there is no large drop. KAYAK describes daily refreshes plus real-time notices for significant changes. Do not assume another service uses the same schedule or threshold.
- An alert is a prompt to check the current fare, not a fare hold or booking guarantee. The available price can differ when you follow the notification.
- The available evidence does not establish a universal savings amount or a best day or time to book. An alert helps you monitor a selected route or flight; it cannot promise a lower fare.
Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change. Any price and availability information displayed on Amazon at the time of purchase will apply.
