Power both units as the kit’s manual specifies, select that input on the display, and wait for the wireless link to come up. Before troubleshooting, check that the source’s video format and any protected content are supported by the kit.
What you need to check before connecting the kit
- Ports: The source needs an HDMI output, and the display needs an HDMI input. If the transmitter uses USB-C, the port must support video output; Belkin says its ConnectAir requires DisplayPort Alt Mode (Belkin ConnectAir support).
- Video format: Check the exact kit’s supported resolution and refresh rate, and make sure they work with the display. HDMI connectors alone do not guarantee that two devices support the same signal (Nyrius support).
- Protected content: Check HDCP compatibility if you plan to play content from a protected streaming app, disc, or other source. Compatibility depends on the devices and signal path; Teradek, for example, says its Spark 4K is incompatible with HDCP-protected signals (Teradek Spark 4K FAQs).
- Power: Find out whether each unit needs a USB connection, a power adapter, or another supply. Requirements are model-specific, so follow the included manual rather than assuming the display’s USB port can power the kit.
How to connect a wireless HDMI transmitter and receiver
- Connect TX to the source. Plug the transmitter into the source device’s HDMI output. If it is a compact adapter, avoid putting strain on the port; use an included HDMI extension if the manual recommends one.
- Connect RX to the display. Plug the receiver into an HDMI input on the TV, monitor, or projector. Note the input number so you can select it in the next step.
- Power both ends. Connect the supplied USB cables or power adapters as directed for your model. As examples of why you should check the manual, Nyrius specifies a 5V/1A USB supply for the receiver setup shown in its FAQ, while Microsoft recommends at least 5W (5V/1A) for its own Wireless Display Adapter. Neither figure is a universal requirement (Nyrius support; Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter troubleshooting).
- Select the receiver’s input. Use the display remote or controls to switch to the HDMI input where RX is connected.
- Wait for the link. Give TX and RX time to establish their connection. If the kit does not pair automatically, use the pairing procedure in that model’s manual.
- Choose a supported source mode if needed. If there is no picture, temporarily set the source to a resolution and refresh rate supported by both the kit and display, then reconnect. Microsoft says its adapter defaults to the display’s lower resolution when applicable; behavior may differ on other kits (Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter troubleshooting).
Does wireless HDMI need Wi-Fi?
Not necessarily. Some transmitter-and-receiver kits create a direct link instead of joining your home network. Nyrius says its Orion/Phoenix Prime uses a secure connection directly between TX and RX and does not connect to Wi-Fi (Nyrius support). Do not assume every wireless display adapter works this way: check the documentation for your exact model.
Range, walls, interference, and latency
Published range is not a promise of reliable room-to-room coverage. OREI lists up to 100 feet for its WUHD-PRO100-K in line of sight and says that model does not transmit through walls. Nyrius lists up to 150 feet for specified Orion/Phoenix models but warns that walls and floors can reduce range. These are different products’ stated maxima, not a direct comparison or independent test (OREI WUHD-PRO100-K; Nyrius support).
Keep TX and RX as close together as practical with a clear path between them. If the picture pixelates or audio stutters, move the units closer and reposition them away from potential interference. Nyrius recommends keeping its units at least six feet from wireless routers when interference is suspected. Microsoft lists microwave ovens, cordless phones, and baby monitors as possible interference sources for its adapter; these are troubleshooting leads, not proof that one of those devices is causing a particular fault (Nyrius support; Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter troubleshooting).

Latency also varies by model. Nyrius says its Orion/Phoenix Prime models can have up to 90 ms latency and are not recommended for gaming. For gaming, live production, or other interactive use, check the latency specification for the exact kit; a direct HDMI cable may be a better fit if responsiveness matters (Nyrius support).
Fix common wireless HDMI problems
No picture or “No signal”
- Confirm TX and RX have power, then reseat the HDMI and power connections.
- Check that the display is set to the HDMI input where RX is connected.
- Confirm the source is outputting video and its resolution and refresh rate are supported.
- If the source connects through USB-C, check that its port supports video output. Belkin requires DisplayPort Alt Mode for ConnectAir (Belkin ConnectAir support).
The transmitter and receiver do not pair
Follow the pairing or reset steps for the exact model. Button functions differ: Nyrius notes that pressing its signal button can stop transmission, while Belkin documents a reset and re-pairing sequence for ConnectAir. Do not apply one brand’s button instructions to another kit (Nyrius support; Belkin ConnectAir support).

A protected app or disc will not display
Check that the kit supports the content’s HDCP requirements and that every part of the signal path is compatible. An HDMI connection by itself does not establish HDCP support. Microsoft provides model-specific HDCP troubleshooting for its 4K Wireless Display Adapter, while Teradek says its Spark 4K cannot carry HDCP-protected signals (Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter troubleshooting; Teradek Spark 4K FAQs).
The picture or audio cuts out
Reduce the distance between the units, clear the path, and try repositioning them away from possible interference. Ensure the hardware has ventilation where applicable. If the issue continues, consult the kit’s troubleshooting instructions rather than assuming the cause is Wi-Fi or the display.

Choosing a kit for your setup
Compare products against the devices and content you plan to use. Check supported resolution and refresh rate, HDCP compatibility, range and obstruction limitations, latency, power requirements, and what cables or adapters are included. A wireless HDMI transmitter and receiver kit is the relevant hardware category, but specifications are model-specific; for example, OREI’s WUHD-PRO100-K product page listed it as sold out when checked in 2026, so its presence here does not indicate current availability (OREI WUHD-PRO100-K).
