To set up a Samsung Galaxy SmartTag3 on Android, open SmartThings, activate the tag, select the device when it appears, and follow the app’s pairing prompts. Samsung’s published pairing guides cover earlier SmartTag models, not a SmartTag3-specific screen sequence, so use the current prompts shown in your version of SmartThings.
Before you begin
- Install or update SmartThings on your Android phone and sign in if the app requests it.
- Keep the SmartTag3 and its packaging nearby. Samsung’s related-model instructions use the box’s QR code as an alternative way to add a tag.
- Check the SmartTag3 package for its exact activation directions. Samsung’s SmartTag2 guide says to remove the battery isolation film or insert the battery, then press the button; the tag sounds when it is ready. That exact procedure is not confirmed for SmartTag3.
Pair the SmartTag3 in SmartThings
- Activate the tag. Follow the instructions supplied with the SmartTag3. Do not assume the button or battery procedure is identical to SmartTag2.
- Respond to the discovery prompt. When SmartThings detects the tag, choose Add and follow the on-screen instructions. Samsung’s earlier SmartTag guide describes agreeing to the prompts, choosing Start, and pressing the tag button to confirm pairing mode; the SmartTag3 app may present different labels or steps.
- Complete any location setup. If asked, choose a room or location for the tag in SmartThings.
- Confirm it was added. Check that the tag appears among your SmartThings devices and open the app’s finding interface to confirm it is available. Samsung documents SmartThings Find for earlier models; use the current SmartTag3 labels displayed in your app.
If SmartThings does not detect the tag
Samsung documents two alternatives for related SmartTag models if the automatic discovery prompt does not appear:
- Scan the QR code: Use SmartThings to scan the QR code on the product box, if the app offers that option.
- Add it manually: In SmartThings, go to Devices → + → Add device → Samsung → Tag/Tracker, then follow the prompts. Menu names can vary by app version and device model.
If neither route matches your app, follow the instructions packaged with the SmartTag3 and the options currently shown in SmartThings. The cited Samsung support guides do not establish a SmartTag3-specific troubleshooting sequence.
Android compatibility and finding features
Samsung describes SmartTag3’s core location checking, sharing, and Search Nearby features as compatible across Galaxy and iOS devices. That does not mean every feature works on every Android phone. Compass View has additional requirements: a Galaxy device running Android 12 or later with UWB or Bluetooth Channel Sounding support. Check your phone’s feature support before relying on Compass View.

Availability and accessories
Samsung announced SmartTag3 on September 30, 2026, with availability beginning in Korea on October 7, followed by the United States and additional markets in 2027. Availability therefore depends on your region. Samsung also announced a Silicone Case with keyring and a Loop Case as attachment accessories.
Samsung says SmartTag3 is approximately 35% smaller by volume and 33% lighter than the previous generation; the weight comparison is based on the respective product weights.
