Once setup is complete, open SmartThings Find or the tag’s device view to see its location or search nearby. You do not pair it through your phone’s general Bluetooth settings.
Check compatibility before setup
Samsung Canada’s 2026 product information lists Galaxy smartphones and tablets running Android 12 or later, and iOS devices running iOS 17 or later, as compatible with SmartTag3. The Samsung Canada Galaxy SmartTag3 page says the “SmartThings app required.” Requirements and feature availability can vary by market, so check Samsung’s page for your country and your device before proceeding.
Turn on Bluetooth and install or update SmartThings. The exact prompts and menu labels can differ by app version and region.
Add the SmartTag3 in SmartThings
Samsung’s published pairing steps cover the SmartTag family rather than a SmartTag3-specific screen-by-screen guide. Use the following family-level flow; follow the prompts displayed in your current version of the app.

- Find your things with ease: The SmartThings Find app uses Bluetooth and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to locate and keep track of your stuff

- Open SmartThings on your phone or tablet.
- Press the button on the SmartTag3. When SmartThings detects it and displays an add prompt, select the option to add the device.
- Accept the setup prompts. If asked, choose a location and room for the tag. Press its button again if the app requests it.
- Finish the guided setup in SmartThings. The tag should then appear among your devices.
Samsung’s family-level instructions are available in its guide to connecting a Galaxy SmartTag with a smartphone. Pairing is handled in SmartThings, not in the phone’s Bluetooth settings.
Find the tag after pairing
In SmartThings, open SmartThings Find or the SmartTag3’s device view, then select the tag. Samsung’s SmartTag-family support describes map-based location and nearby search options. If the tag is close enough to connect, use the ring option to make it sound and help you locate it. See Samsung’s instructions for finding a Samsung SmartTag.

SmartTag3’s listed maximum distances are specifications, not promises about the distance you will get in a home, building, or other real-world setting. Samsung Canada’s 2026 product page lists up to 120 m over Bluetooth LE, up to 60 m over Bluetooth Channel Sounding, and up to 20 m over UWB. Obstacles, surroundings, device support, and connection conditions can affect locating.
Know which features your device supports
Samsung Canada says Compass View is available on Galaxy devices that support UWB or Bluetooth 6.0 Channel Sounding. Its product information says Compass View and Notify When Left Behind are not supported on iOS. Compatibility with the tag therefore does not mean every SmartTag3 feature is available on every compatible phone.

Battery life and reassignment
SmartTag3 uses one replaceable CR2032 battery. Samsung Canada estimates up to 550 days of battery life, or up to 790 days in Power Saving Mode; these are manufacturer estimates, not independent test results, and actual life can vary with use and other conditions.
If you are moving a SmartTag to another phone, Samsung’s SmartTag-family support says to remove it from SmartThings before connecting it to the new phone. Samsung also documents a reset procedure for the family that involves opening the battery cover, removing and reinserting the battery while holding the button, then removing the device from SmartThings if it is being reassigned. Check the current SmartTag3 instructions in Samsung support or the app before using that model-specific reset sequence.
