Windows Errors? Fix Them Before They Spread
Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallOutdated Drivers Are Slowing You Down
One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchBuild a reliable community-event gaming station by checking each console’s video and power requirements first, choosing a display connection that actually supports its signal, and testing the complete setup before the event. Then make the station easy to approach, understand, share, and maintain.
1. Inventory your consoles and games before buying anything
Start with the equipment you have. For every console, record its exact model or revision and region, video output, power supply, compatible controllers, and the games you plan to use. Console versions can differ, so connector shape alone does not establish that a cable or adapter will work.
- Identify whether the console outputs RF, composite, SCART/RGB, component, VGA, or HDMI.
- Check the display’s available inputs and the signal formats it accepts.
- Confirm that each power supply and controller matches the specific system.
- List the games and player modes you intend to offer, and test them with the planned controllers.
Use the console model and region to check compatibility before ordering cables or converters. The connector may fit while the video signal does not. RetroRGB’s connection guidance covers the range of analogue and digital options and why the complete signal path matters.
2. Choose a display and connection path
There is no single best display or adapter for every retro system. Decide based on the console’s actual output, the inputs available, your image preferences, setup effort, and whether you need to accommodate several systems at one station.

| Display setup | Connection approach | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| CRT with a matching input | Use the best native analogue cable the console and television both support. | Confirm console region and signal compatibility. |
| Modern TV with analogue input | Connect only if the television accepts the console’s specific signal. | Check accepted formats and test for processing delay with the actual game. |
| HDMI-only TV | Use an active converter or scaler designed for the console’s output. | Verify model and region compatibility; a passive cable generally cannot convert analogue video to digital HDMI. |
Test the complete chain—console, cable, any converter or switch, game, and display—rather than relying on a product description or connector match. Compatibility and image quality vary, and adding adapters or switches adds potential failure points. For a station serving multiple consoles, keep the signal path simple and label each cable and power supply for its system. RetroRGB provides further background on console video connections.
3. Make the station understandable and comfortable to use
Someone who has never used the console should be able to start a game without guessing. Put concise instructions where players can see them, and label the system, display input, controller ports, and any needed power or input switch. Keep the controls and screen within comfortable reach, and provide seating or easy access to folding chairs.

Plan for access, not just the average player
Microsoft’s Playbook for Accessible Gaming Events, Guideline 107, last updated March 4, 2026, offers practical recommendations for game demo stations. It recommends adjustable-height monitors and tables, including tables that allow a wheelchair user to roll underneath; sturdy tables; and monitors with adjustable brightness. It also recommends at least two standard controllers per station, controller cables reaching at least three feet from the table edge, and an adaptive controller at each station or quick access to connect one.
Where possible, provide a selection of compatible buttons, switches, and joysticks. Microsoft recommends displaying accessibility information in QR-code or short-URL form with braille underneath, and making seating or folding chairs readily available. Its playbook states, “Each station should have an adaptive controller present at it.” Treat these as event-design recommendations, not a statement of local legal requirements; check compatibility with the console and games you are offering.

4. Test the full setup and prepare for faults
Before the event, run the actual game on the actual console and display with every controller intended for use. Confirm that the picture and sound work, the controls respond, and players can reach the station comfortably. If there is a converter, switch, or extension, include it in the test.
- Keep known-good, system-compatible cables and controllers available.
- If resources allow, prepare a backup console that has also been tested.
- Assign someone to respond to faults, clean shared equipment, and help players with instructions.
- Label equipment so a replacement cable or power supply is not accidentally taken from an incompatible system.

5. Arrange the room and confirm venue requirements
Place stations where visitors can approach and staff can supervise them. Keep instructions visible, provide a place to sit, and avoid routing controller or power cables where people may trip. Ask the venue about power distribution, cable routing, furniture, and its applicable safety rules before finalizing the layout.
Also confirm local requirements for electrical and fire safety, insurance, accessibility, and public use of the games. Those obligations depend on the venue, location, and titles; the sources cited here do not establish what applies to a particular event. Check with the venue and the relevant rights holders or local authorities when needed.
