1. Complete the on-screen setup wizard
Power on your phone and follow the prompts. Nothing Support’s “How to set-up my Nothing Phone” says: “When you power on the phone, follow the on-screen setup wizard.”
- Choose your language and proceed through the welcome screens.
- Connect to Wi-Fi or mobile service when prompted.
- Insert a SIM if you plan to use cellular service and your model requires a physical SIM. SIM options depend on the device and carrier.
- When asked, choose whether to copy data from an old phone or set up the Nothing Phone as new.
2. Prepare before transferring data
If you are switching from Android, have both phones charged, a suitable charging cable, and access to good Wi-Fi. Nothing’s Android transfer guidance recommends these preparations and says to connect to Wi-Fi or mobile service during setup.
- Keep the old phone available and unlocked when the transfer prompts require it.
- Use the transfer choices presented by the setup wizard; where offered, select the types of content you want to copy.
- Check that the cable is compatible with both devices before starting. A cable is mentioned in Nothing’s guidance, but connector requirements depend on the phones.

3. Review notifications and lock-screen privacy
After reaching the home screen, decide which apps should interrupt you and what message details may appear while the phone is locked. Nothing’s support guidance describes app-level notification controls and a shortcut from the notification shade; the exact labels and route vary.
- Open Settings and look for Notifications or the app-specific notification controls.
- Review messaging, email, calendar, and other apps individually. Keep alerts enabled for anything you need to notice promptly; turning off a messaging app’s notifications can delay when you see new messages.
- Find the lock-screen notification or privacy option and choose whether to show full notification content, hide sensitive content, or show no notifications on the lock screen. Available choices vary by OS version.

4. Check for a Nothing OS update
Nothing says update availability can be announced by notification and can also be checked manually. Open Settings and look for System update or a similarly named software-update section; menu paths differ across devices and support articles.
Before installing, follow Nothing’s OTA update guidance: use stable Wi-Fi, have at least 50% battery or keep the phone connected to a charger, and back up important data. The 50% threshold is Nothing Support Centre’s procedural recommendation; no publication year is stated. Let the update finish without interrupting the installation.

5. Consider device-finding and basic care
Device-finding settings
Nothing’s broad support how-to guidance says Find My Phone is automatically enabled after adding a Google account, while location access depends on location settings. Because device menus and service names can change across Android and Nothing OS versions, open your phone’s current Google and location settings to confirm what is enabled rather than relying on a single menu path.
Protection and charging
Nothing recommends using a protective case and a compliant charging/data cable, and cautions against heat and using the phone while charging. Treat these as manufacturer care recommendations, not a guarantee of improved battery life. If you buy a case, match it to your exact Nothing Phone model.
