Keep your old tablet charged and accessible until you have checked what arrived. Setup transfer is not necessarily a complete clone: account sync, app-specific migration, and copying individual files may require separate steps.
Before you turn on the Idea Tab Plus
A little preparation makes the transfer less likely to stall. Google recommends getting both devices ready before starting its Android setup transfer. If your source is an iPad, keep it nearby and accessible for the separate iPhone/iPad flow.
- Charge both tablets and make sure you can unlock the old one with its PIN, pattern, or password.
- Connect the old tablet to Wi-Fi, check that its data is backed up, and have the Google Account details available. Signing in to that account on the old device helps Google’s transfer flow copy the broadest range of data.
- If you plan to copy files by USB, use a data-capable cable and confirm it supports file transfer. A cable that only charges devices will not work for this method.
Google’s Android transfer instructions are general and note that steps can vary by device. Lenovo’s setup guidance covers Lenovo Android tablets broadly, so the exact wording and order on your Idea Tab Plus may differ.
Complete the first-time tablet setup
Turn on the Idea Tab Plus and follow the prompts displayed on its screen. Lenovo says a first setup, or setup after a factory reset, can include choosing a language, accepting the license agreement, connecting to Wi-Fi and, where applicable, a mobile network, setting date and time, configuring Google services, and creating a screen lock. Treat these as setup tasks rather than a guaranteed screen-by-screen sequence.

When the tablet asks whether to copy apps and data, choose that option if you want to transfer from your old device. If you skip it, you can still sign in to your Google Account and manually move individual files later, but that is a different process from the guided device transfer.
Transfer data from an Android tablet
Use the guided Android-to-Android setup flow on the Idea Tab Plus. Google’s published wording is “Choose to copy apps and data from your old device.” The particular pairing prompts and labels can vary by device.

- Turn on the Idea Tab Plus and proceed through setup until it offers to copy apps and data.
- Choose the option to set up or copy from an Android device, then follow the pairing instructions shown on the new tablet.
- Keep the old tablet unlocked and nearby. Enter its PIN, pattern, or password if the new tablet requests it.
- Review the available items and select what you want to copy. Follow the prompts on both screens until the transfer finishes.
If the guided pairing is unavailable or you prefer not to use it, select manual account entry if the setup flow offers that option, then sign in to the relevant Google Account. Google-account contacts can appear after sign-in, and supported music services can sync after their apps are installed; those account and app syncs are not the same as copying every local file or app’s private data.
Transfer data from an iPad
At the Idea Tab Plus copy-data prompt, choose the iPhone or iPad path and follow the route the tablet displays. Google’s setup guidance describes wireless QR-code pairing when offered and a cable-based route in some cases; the flow may also offer an option to continue without a cable.

Choose the method available on your screens and follow its instructions on both devices. Do not assume that every iPad data category, app, setting, or login transfers in the same way. Google provides separate guidance for some content, including WhatsApp, so check an app’s own migration instructions if its data matters to you.
Move individual files if the guided transfer misses them
Lenovo documents USB, cloud storage, and Bluetooth as ways to move files. These are file-level options, not a full-device clone. Lenovo’s USB instructions apply to Android devices; use cloud storage or Bluetooth when USB transfer is unsuitable.

USB file transfer from an Android tablet
- Connect the Android tablet to a computer with a data-capable USB cable.
- On the tablet, tap the USB notification and select File Transfer.
- Use the computer to copy the files you want to move.
- Wait for copying to finish before disconnecting the tablet.
- Move the copied files to the Idea Tab Plus using a suitable connection or storage service.
Lenovo’s instructions describe the Android tablet-to-computer transfer step; they do not identify one particular cable as universally compatible. If the device only charges and does not present a file-transfer option, check the cable and USB notification before trying again.
Cloud storage
Upload selected files from the old tablet to a cloud service, then access or download them on the Idea Tab Plus. Lenovo names Google Drive, Dropbox, and Microsoft OneDrive as examples. Both devices need internet access, and the files must finish uploading before you rely on the cloud copy.

Bluetooth
Pair the tablets over Bluetooth and send selected files from the old device. The receiving device must accept the incoming transfer. Bluetooth is best treated as an option for selected files rather than a method for migrating an entire tablet.

Several different processes can contribute to a successful move: the setup wizard copies supported data, Google Account sign-in syncs account data, individual apps may provide their own migration, and manual transfer moves files. None of those alone guarantees that every setting, login, app-private data, or locally stored file will appear on the new tablet.
- Check that account-based content has synced after signing in.
- Install supported apps and open them to see whether their data restores or syncs through the app’s service.
- For app-specific content such as WhatsApp, follow the separate transfer guidance Google points to rather than assuming the general setup copy covers it.
- Keep the old tablet until you have verified important photos, documents, messages, and app data on the Idea Tab Plus.
