You need the service’s endpoint, HTTP method, authentication requirements, upload field name, and response format; these values are specific to the service and should come from its API documentation.
What a ShareX custom uploader does
A custom uploader connects ShareX to a hosting service or URL service through a configurable HTTP request. ShareX says the feature is mainly for people who host their own services. Its documentation describes the system as a way to upload images, text, and files to hosting services or to shorten and share URLs: ShareX Custom uploader documentation.
There is no universal endpoint or set of credentials for a custom uploader. The destination service defines what the request must contain and what its response looks like; ShareX provides fields and syntax for building that request and parsing the result.
Before you configure it: get the API details
From the target service’s API documentation, identify these requirements before entering values in ShareX:

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- Upload endpoint and accepted HTTP method.
- Authentication method and any required headers, query parameters, or body arguments.
- Request body format, such as multipart form data, JSON, or binary.
- Exact multipart file field name, if the endpoint accepts file uploads.
- Successful response format and the field or value containing the shareable URL.
- Error response format, so you can configure a useful error message.
Do not assume that an endpoint accepts a particular method or field name: the API contract determines those values.
Configure the uploader in ShareX
- Open the custom uploader settings. In ShareX, open the custom uploader configuration screen. Add an optional descriptive Name, then choose a Destination type that matches how ShareX should treat the result. Documented types include ImageUploader, TextUploader, FileUploader, URLShortener, and URLSharingService.
- Set the request method and URL. Enter the method and endpoint specified by the service. ShareX supports GET, POST, PUT, PATCH, and DELETE. Its documentation prefers GET for requests without a body that use parameters, and POST is common for multipart uploads; these are conveniences, not substitutes for the API’s requirements.
- Add parameters and headers. Enter required query parameters and headers, including authentication where applicable. ShareX permits overriding common headers such as Content-Type, Accept, Cookie, and User-Agent. Treat API keys and tokens as secrets.
- Select the request body type. ShareX supports no body, multipart form data, URL-encoded form data, JSON, XML, and binary. For a multipart file upload, set File form name to the exact field name expected by the endpoint.
- Provide any input values the API needs. Use
{input}for text or a URL supplied to a text uploader or URL service. Use{filename}where the service needs the uploaded file’s name. ShareX also supports dynamic values in request URLs, header values, parameter values, and body arguments; use the documented syntax appropriate to the field. - Map the response to the returned URL. Configure the URL response parser to match the service’s success response. If the response body is already the complete URL, the URL parser can be left empty. For JSON, examples include
{json:data.link}and{json:files[0].url}. ShareX also documents XML XPath, regex, response-header, and redirect URL parsing. Configure an error parser as well, if the service returns a useful error value.
Test the configuration safely
Before relying on the uploader, make a request using non-sensitive test content. Confirm that the service accepts it, that ShareX extracts the intended URL, and that the URL opens as expected. Also check a failing request, if practical, to see whether the configured error parser produces an understandable message. These checks validate your particular service and configuration; they do not guarantee behavior for other endpoints.

Export, import, and reuse an SXCU file
ShareX exports custom uploader configurations as .sxcu files. The format is JSON-based. A configuration can include values such as its version, name, destination type, request method and URL, parameters, headers, body, arguments, file form name, and response URL fields such as URL, ThumbnailURL, DeletionURL, and ErrorMessage.
- Export the configured uploader to an
.sxcufile when you want to reuse or transfer it. - Double-click an
.sxcufile to import it. Setting a destination type lets ShareX select that custom uploader as the current destination. - For scripting or file-type association, ShareX’s command-line option accepts
-customuploader ".sxcu file path". See the ShareX command-line arguments documentation.
Review the file before sharing it: if you entered credentials or tokens in headers or parameters, the exported configuration may contain them. Remove or replace secrets before sending the file to anyone else.

When a custom uploader is not the right fit
If you want ShareX’s documented integration with an object-storage provider rather than a custom API, ShareX has setup guides for Cloudflare R2 using its Amazon S3 destination, Amazon S3, and Google Cloud Storage. These guides cover provider-specific configuration; none is required to use the custom uploader feature.
When choosing between a custom API and a documented storage integration, consider whether the service exposes the API or ShareX integration you need, how credentials are issued and scoped, how bucket access and public URLs work, whether you need a custom domain and HTTPS, and whether you want to manage a self-hosted destination. The linked setup guides explain configuration, but do not provide a basis for comparing current provider prices or service limits.
