To set up a 3D avatar for live streaming, create or obtain a compatible model, load it into avatar-tracking software, choose a webcam or other supported tracking input, then capture the animated avatar in OBS. The key compatibility check is the model format: for example, VSeeFace supports VRM0 but not VRM 1.0, while Warudo accepts VRM and its own .warudo format.

1. Create or get a 3D avatar

For a do-it-yourself model, VRoid Studio is a free character-creation app that exports models as VRM. You can also obtain a model from a creator or commission one, but check both its file format and its license before using it on a stream.

Check whether your computer meets VRoid Studio’s requirements

VRoid Studio’s published baseline lists Windows 8.1, 10, or 11; an Intel Core i5 6th generation or later or AMD Ryzen 5 3rd generation or later; 8 GB RAM; Intel Iris Graphics 540 or higher; and 10 GB of free storage. Its listed Mac requirements are macOS 11, 8 GB RAM, and 10 GB of storage. These are requirements for creating a model in VRoid Studio, not a guarantee that the same computer can smoothly run tracking software, OBS, and a live stream together. See the VRoid Studio product page for current details.

Confirm the model license

Terms vary by model. VRoid Studio says creators can set terms for their own model data and advises users to follow the license conditions for Pixiv or third-party model data. Before streaming commercially, editing the model, or sharing its files, check the specific creator’s terms for those uses.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

2. Choose software that supports the model

The avatar app loads and animates the 3D model; OBS captures and composes that output with your stream. They do different jobs, so choose the avatar app by checking its supported model format and version before setup.

Software 3D model compatibility What to know
VSeeFace VRM0; not VRM 1.0 Free face- and hand-tracking software for VRM avatars. Its official site lists 64-bit Windows 8 and above.
Warudo VRM and .warudo Its getting-started guide accepts either format and offers optional guidance for choosing a motion-capture setup.
VTube Studio Live2D Cubism models; not 3D VRoid/VRM models It is not a standalone app for loading and animating a 3D VRM avatar. Its iOS tracking can optionally control a 3D model in VSeeFace, but that does not mean VTube Studio supports the 3D model itself.

These compatibility details are documented by VSeeFace, the Warudo Handbook, and the VTube Studio manual. Check those official pages again if you are installing a newer release, since supported formats and requirements can change.

3. Select a tracking input

A webcam can be a practical starting point; a dedicated face-tracking device or phone app is optional, not universally required. The app must support the input you choose, and the model’s rig determines which expressions or movements can be shown.

  • Webcam: Use a webcam if your chosen software supports it. VSeeFace describes face and hand tracking for VRM avatars. Warudo’s documented example uses MediaPipe through a webcam for hand tracking.
  • Phone-based face tracking: Warudo’s example uses the iFacialMocap app on an iPhone for face tracking, together with webcam-based MediaPipe hand tracking. This is one setup example, not a requirement.

Warudo’s onboarding can recommend a motion-capture setup based on the equipment you have. Review the Warudo getting-started guidance and the tracking app’s current compatibility information before buying equipment.

4. Load the avatar and test its movement

  1. Install an avatar app that supports your model’s exact format and version.
  2. Open the app and import or select the avatar file using that app’s character-loading controls. For example, use a VRM0 file with VSeeFace, or a VRM or .warudo character with Warudo.
  3. Select the tracking input you intend to use, such as a supported webcam or phone-based tracking app.
  4. Look at the app’s preview and test basic head and facial movements. Check hands or body movement only if your chosen setup supports them.

A successful import only confirms that the app can load the file; it does not ensure that every expression or gesture will work. Tracking depends on the model’s rig as well as the software and input.

5. Capture the avatar in OBS

Once the avatar is moving in its app, add that output to your OBS scene. VSeeFace documents two routes: transparent Game Capture or its virtual camera.

Option A: OBS Game Capture with transparency

  1. In OBS, add a Game Capture source for VSeeFace.
  2. In the source properties, enable Allow transparency so the avatar can appear without its background.
  3. Position and size the source in your scene, then check that the avatar edges and any other scene elements look right in the OBS preview.

Option B: VSeeFace virtual camera

  1. Enable the virtual camera in VSeeFace’s settings.
  2. In OBS, add a Video Capture Device source and select the VSeeFace virtual camera.
  3. Arrange the source and confirm the framing in the OBS preview before going live.

VSeeFace documents its virtual-camera output at 1280×720. Check your OBS canvas and output settings against that size so the captured avatar fits the scene as intended. See the VSeeFace official site for its current capture instructions and official download locations.

6. Check the stream and usage rights before going live

  • Make a short private or unlisted test, if appropriate for your channel, and verify that OBS captures the avatar and any intended audio.
  • Check your model’s license for the way you plan to use it, particularly for commercial use, edits, or redistribution.
  • Use music, images, and other stream assets only when you have the necessary rights. A model license does not grant rights to unrelated assets used in your broadcast.
  • Review YouTube’s current live-streaming and copyright rules before broadcasting. Platform rules and enforcement can change; consult YouTube’s live-streaming help and copyright guidance.

Common setup problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to check
The model will not load The app does not support the file format or version. Confirm the model format. VSeeFace requires VRM0 rather than VRM 1.0; Warudo’s guide lists VRM and .warudo.
The model loads but barely moves The tracking input may not be selected or available, or the model rig may not expose the movement you expect. Check the selected camera or tracking app, then test supported movements in the avatar app before adjusting OBS.
The avatar has a background in OBS The capture route or transparency setting may not be configured. For VSeeFace Game Capture, enable Allow transparency. Alternatively, enable its virtual camera and capture that in OBS.
The avatar looks cropped or soft The scene framing or source dimensions may not match the captured output. Reposition and resize the OBS source. For VSeeFace virtual-camera capture, account for its documented 1280×720 output.
Tracking, OBS, and the stream run poorly together VRoid Studio’s creation requirements do not establish performance for the full live-streaming workload. Close unnecessary applications and test the complete setup before a scheduled broadcast. The model-creation requirements alone cannot predict whole-stream performance.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want a YouTube channel to keep playing uploaded videos when your avatar setup or computer is off, StreamNeo runs a looping stream from the cloud. It plays uploaded videos rather than going live from a camera, so it is for pre-recorded content, not a live animated-avatar performance.
