In Microsoft Edge, the homepage is the page opened when you click the Home button. It is separate from the page Edge opens at startup and from the page shown in a new tab.
On Windows 10 and Windows 11, you can change it from Settings and more (…) → Settings → Start, home, and new tab page. You can use the new-tab page or enter any website address, such as https://www.itechguides.com.
How to change the Microsoft Edge homepage
- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Click Settings and more, the three-dot button in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- In the left-hand menu, select Start, home, and new tab page.
- Under the Home button section, turn on Show home button on the toolbar.
- Select one of the available options:
- New tab page opens Edge’s built-in new-tab experience.
- Enter URL lets you specify a website.
- If you selected Enter URL, type or paste the complete address into the box. For example, enter
https://www.google.comrather than justgoogle.com. - Click away from the field or press Enter to save the change.
Click the Home button on Edge’s toolbar to test the setting. If you chose a custom URL, Edge should open that address. If you chose New tab page, it normally opens edge://newtab.

The homepage setting can be configured while the Home button is hidden. If you cannot find the button, return to:

Settings and more (…) → Settings → Start, home, and new tab page
Then enable Show home button on the toolbar. The Home icon should appear on the toolbar, usually beside the address bar. Clicking it takes you to the page selected in the Home button settings.
If you do not want a Home button, you can leave this option turned off. The homepage configuration remains stored, but there will be no visible toolbar button for opening it.
How to make Edge open a website when it starts
Changing the homepage does not automatically change the page Edge opens when it launches. To configure startup behavior:

- Open Edge and select Settings and more (…) → Settings.
- Select Start, home, and new tab page.
- Find the section that controls what happens when Edge starts.
- Choose the option to open a specific page or pages.
- Select Add a new page, enter the website address, and save it.
The exact options can vary slightly by Edge version, but the important distinction remains: the Home button and startup pages are controlled separately.
Homepage, startup page, and new-tab page: what is the difference?

For example, you can set the Home button to open your company website, configure Edge to restore your previous tabs at startup, and continue using Edge’s standard new-tab page. Changing one of these does not automatically change the others.
What to do if Edge will not let you change the homepage
If the setting is missing, greyed out, or changes back after you edit it, the computer may be managed by an employer, school, or another organization. Administrators can enforce Edge’s Home button behavior through policy and prevent users from changing it in the browser.
Look for messages such as Managed by your organization in Edge’s settings. On a work or school computer, contact the organization’s IT administrator rather than trying to bypass the policy.

On a personal Windows PC, unwanted homepage changes can also be caused by a suspicious extension or software that manages browser settings. Review installed extensions at:
Settings and more (…) → Extensions → Manage extensions
Disable or remove extensions you do not recognize, then check the homepage setting again. Avoid removing extensions that you need until you have confirmed what they do.

Administrative Templates/Microsoft Edge/Startup, home page and new tab page
An administrator might assign a value such as:
https://www.contoso.com
There is also a HomepageIsNewTabPage policy. When that policy is enabled, the Home button uses the new-tab page instead of the URL supplied through HomepageLocation. To enforce a custom homepage URL, an administrator must configure the policies consistently and disable the new-tab-page behavior for the Home button.
These policies are intended for managed devices. Editing the Windows Registry to override an organization’s settings can cause configuration problems and may violate workplace or school policies.
Quick fixes for common problems

Set the homepage from the address bar
Edge does not require a special command or Registry edit for a normal homepage change. The supported method is to open the Edge settings page and select the Home button option described above. You can also navigate directly to the relevant settings area by entering:

This opens Edge’s Start, home, and new tab page settings directly. The internal address may be useful when the menu layout is difficult to locate, but the settings and available options are the same.

How do I change my homepage in Edge on Windows 11?
Open Edge and go to Settings and more (…) → Settings → Start, home, and new tab page. Turn on Show home button on the toolbar, select Enter URL, and enter the website address you want to use.
Why is the Home button missing in Microsoft Edge?
