To restrict Fortnite purchases, set a six-digit PIN in the child’s Epic Games account and enable the Epic payment approval setting. That PIN applies only to purchases billed through Epic—not purchases charged through a console or mobile store. Set payment approvals on the child’s platform separately, and decide whether to allow spending V-Bucks on paid random-reward items.
Set a PIN and choose Epic account purchase permissions
- Sign in to the child’s Epic Games account and open Parental Controls.
- Set a six-digit PIN. Epic says this PIN is required to change parental controls later; keep it private and different from other PINs you use.
- In the purchase controls, enable the option that requires the PIN for real-money purchases made using Epic payment. A parent or guardian will need to enter the PIN to authorize a purchase through that payment route.
- Review the permission for paid random items. This controls whether the player can spend V-Bucks—or content purchased with V-Bucks—on items with random rewards. The setting may not appear where paid random items are unavailable.
Epic’s PIN is not a universal Fortnite spending lock. Its payment setting does not cover charges processed by PlayStation, Steam, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, or other platform stores, and it does not control purchases made with in-game currency such as V-Bucks. Epic describes the boundary in its Parental Controls guidance.
Apply purchase controls for the child’s device and billing route
Check where the child plays and how a purchase is billed before choosing the next setting. Use the relevant console, Windows, iOS, or Google Play parental or payment controls for purchases charged through that platform. Epic’s overview of parental controls links to platform resources; the exact steps depend on the device and storefront, and their settings operate separately from Epic’s PIN.
- Epic payment on PC: Enable the Epic PIN requirement. Epic also suggests removing stored payment methods from the account as an additional precaution.
- Console or mobile store billing: Set purchase approval or payment restrictions in the platform account used for billing. The Epic payment PIN will not authorize or block those charges.
- V-Bucks balance: The Epic real-money payment setting does not govern spending from an existing in-game currency balance. Use the paid random-items permission if the concern is random-reward purchases.
Understand Cabined Accounts and the under-13 spending rule
Cabined Accounts
Epic generally places an account in a Cabined Account state when a player indicates they are under 13 or below the local age of digital consent, whichever age is higher. Until a parent or guardian provides consent, real-money purchases and some features—including voice chat and free text chat—are disabled. The child can still play Fortnite and use previously earned or purchased content. These restrictions are account-status protections, not the same as the purchase permissions a parent configures in Parental Controls.

Epic says Fortnite gift-card funds can be added to a Cabined Account’s Epic balance for Epic game purchases, except Fortnite Crew subscriptions. A balance is spendable within that stated scope, so adding funds is not a way to strengthen purchase restrictions.
Epic’s $100 daily limit
Epic states that accounts whose player indicated they are under 13 have a $100 daily limit on total purchases made using Epic Games payment. A parent or guardian’s PIN is required to override the limit and complete purchases above it. Epic says this applies across Fortnite and other Epic products, but excludes payments made through the named platform stores and purchases using in-game currency such as V-Bucks. It is Epic’s stated rule for that specific account and payment route—not a universal Fortnite spending cap.

Set play-time limits separately, if needed
Epic’s Time Limit Controls can set daily limits and time windows for Fortnite and UEFN. If enabled, they can also distinguish Play Time from Create Time. These limits apply across devices when the child uses the same Epic account. Console and device-level time limits are separate controls and can impose additional limits; neither substitutes for purchase restrictions.
